I completely agree. I sincerley hope Sheffield never has another at bat with the New York Yankees.
I guess some of you think Sheffield used steroids to enhance his performance. I doubt it, but let the evidence unfold. I think the Balco investigation will turn up some truth and then we will know for sure if Sheffield did juice up on steroids on a regular basis.

He admitted as much during the BALCO investigation, using the Bonds' line that he 'unknowingly' took steroids.
^^ Yeah Sheff already admitted to doping. I always liked the attitude he brought to the game, but now I'd much rather see him get either traded for prospects or for a young arm(Sheff is 36-38 I believe, anyway he needs to go).

Im watching the White Sox vs. Rangers game right now and getting disgusted that the Yankees gave up on Contreras so soon. By nights end he will have his 15th consecutive win. Meanwhile we have to watch an old, cranky, worn out Johnson go out there once every 5 days and stink up the joint.
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
I completely agree Bri...as I had mentioned on an earlier post, I would love to see one of the rookies come up and pitch a couple of games...take a look at their numbers...there's some real promise there.
Kris Wilson is looking the best right now...2.22 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, with a great K to walk ratio 54 Ks, 14 walks shows pretty nice control. This is with 69 IP.
Darrell Rasner is looking really strong too. 2.56 ERA, 1.22 WHIP also showing good control...42 Ks 11 Walks in 52.2 IP
Colter Bean is doing well but has some control issues. 2.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP with 42 Ks and 20 Walks...this is all in 33.2 IP. If they can get him to not walk so many people, this kid could be dominating. In those 33.2 IP, he has only given up 18 hits! Oh, and he has been a middle relief guy, not a starter. I don't know if he is someone they would keep in the bullpen or try as a starter.
With AA Trenton there isnt a whole lot to write home about.
They have one kid, Steven White who has a low ERA and WHIP but walks like 4-5/9 innings pitched...so looks like there are some control problems there. One surprise is that in 68 IP so far this year, he hasnt given up a HR.
Philip Hughes is also there..pretty highly scouted but his numbers havent been overly impressive thus far, especially for AA ball.
Jeff Karstens has only started 6 games but isnt too bad himself. He could be a diamond in the rough.
So anyone who says that Yankees have no minor league system is misinformed because this is pretty impressive compared to a good share of the other AA and AAA teams.
thanks for the list......seems like a few with potential. We all know that its a crapshoot though with any minor leaguer in any position. Thats one big reason I dont put much stock in any debate over who has the best prospects and all that. None of it matters till they get up to the bigs and produce. Im sure for every minor league stud over the years that went on to make it big there is a nobody who went on to make it big too.
Have you gotten to see any of them play either on tv or in person yet ? Are they even still covering the minor league games on tv ?
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
Unfortunately I havent been able to see them play. I'm just watching their stats throughout the season. I would love to see some games though...especially to see what Wilson and Rasner are all about.
Not to be too negative but only Rasner can be considered a prospect. Colter Bean is hardly a prospect. He is 29 years old and does not throw hard. Apparently he has a funky delivery. Kris Wilson is 30 years old and has a career minor league earned run average of 5.32.
Very crisp game tonight to get the Yanks back in the win column. Wang was dealing tonight and Cano extended his hitting streak with a solo HR, the games only run. Gotta love these two young Yankees!
I am on a tirade tonight between here and the other Yankee thread, but its great to see Wang and Cano be the heros tonight with a combined annual salary of roughly what Arod makes in 5 games.

Well, its about to start....will be interesting to see what Randy Johnson does tonight. I'm hoping he doesnt make me turn the TV because I would really like to watch a good game.
BAD move by Randy Johnson and Jorge Posada. Johnson is in desperate need to be pitching well. He was having an excellent game...now its just wait til next time. I wanted to see if he had it in him to keep going without blowing it.
Cano has been awesome of late! 3/4 tonight(so far) and 15/32 recently. Funny...all of those "overrated" postings have seemed to have died about Cano and Wang...guess those same balloon knots have nothing much to say about them now.
Posada was dead wrong in stirring that up. If anyone should have been pissed off it was Jeter. He was almost hit on the arm and a pitch or two later had one thrown at his head. I dont blame Johnson for doing what he did, if anything I respect it as a former pitcher. If Posada hadnt started it to begin with then Johnson wouldnt have been in that situation.
Randy pitched well, and maybe leaving the game on that high note was a good thing. Who knows, maybe he stays in there another inning and gives up a few runs which could have deflated the performance in his mind. Now as it stand he left in total control as well as backing his teammate.
Cano looks real confident at the plate, and man does he have one smooth level swing through the zone.
I enjoy the games when O'neill and Kaat are announcing together. Two complete professionals who are well spoken, know the game and dont over do it. Anything to defer the talking from Michael Kay from talking is a bonus.
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
I was wondering today, and maybe someone may know the answer.....whats the protocol on a player who is out for an extended period with injury like Matsui and Sheffield. Assuming they are not in Tampa rehabbing or whatever, are they required to be with the team at all ? Could Matsui just go back to Japan for a few months ?
"The other teams could make trouble for us if they win." -- Yogi Berra
I think that after the surgery the players are given a period of "off-time" where they aren't allowed to work out that area and basically just relax and regain there health. After those "weeks" usually they head down to either Tampa or workout with the Yankees and travel with them. Once back in playing shape they're sent down for assignment to get back their timing and such.

Small placed on waivers today, sad to see that, he was a huge part of the team last year but didn't have the same stuff (or luck) this year. He did say that if he cleared waivers he would accept an assignment to columbus to try to work on things. Great Story from last year regardless

huh, I have been out shopping for new floors all day with the wife ...... did not here of this until now. This happens everyday man. If nothing else Small has alot of great stories to tell.
Soriano just killed the Yanks today. If it is not the long ball it is stealing bases and creating all kinds of havoc on the bases. BAD loss today for the Yanks. They look great and then look like $hit all year long. They need to get consistent play and soon.

Tough one today with the walk off HR.
Maybe Torre should have pulled the Wanger. But then again he's trying to get more out of the staff and he wasn't pitching badly.
Some wins are needed...now. I am getting concerned at this juncture in the season. Injuries aside, time for a run. There will be no opportunity for a stong close, as there a no slackers in the division. Yankee pride aside, it is not looking good. I hope we have a rally.
Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!
Well I think right now with everything that has gone down this season the Yanks are in a good spot. Still within striking distance of the Divisional Title and if the Bombers can keep it that way hopefully a late season run will be a great primer for the playoffs. I'm hopeful for a few more callups and success stories this season! Maybe swing a trade involving some of the veterans to inject some fresh muscle into the lineup(preferably starting 5 lineup!).

No doubt the Yanks are playing just miserable baseball right now. We can only hope that this is rock bottom. I hold on to the old saying that you are never as good as you look at your best, or never as bad as you look at your worst

One reason why the goddess never gets to hold the remote in our house -
As the game ended she threatened to stick it up my a$$.
All in fun of course, but she takes her sports as seriously as I do. Actually her whole family does. First thing her father said when they came to visit on Sunday was "Jesus I can't believe the Yanks blew that lead yesterday." He left no happier after the walk off HR.
Good luck tonight!
