Today with my coffee I'm enjoying my 1928 buffalo nickel PCGS 66. I haven't the slightest idea why it's not a 67 as it's near perfect and the luster is off the charts.
Have a happy and safe 3-day weekend.
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
Just continuing with the inventory and having a cup of Kroger “Breakfast Blend “.
Realized I haven’t bought anything except 5oz apmex bars of silver, in over a month. I am in the middle of changing directions, again.
Enclosed an interesting picture of coin pusher game taking out a large stack. 😉🦫🙀
Good morning, folks! Just dropped my ballerina off for rehearsal and picked up a cup of NJ's finest coffee. Here is a rare new purchase that just arrived this morning from Stacks and has me quite excited:
This is a Civil War Identification Disc purchased by a soldier in Indiana back in 1865. These discs were the precursor to government issued dog tags which began in World War I. Back in the 19th Century, if you didn't want to be thrown in a mass grave for the unidentified, you had to have something on your person that could identify your remains if they were unrecognizable after the violence of battle. Some soldiers wrote their names and regiment on a piece of paper and pinned them to their uniforms. Others carved this information on a coin and placed it in their pockets. And still others, went to the regimental Sutler to purchase something a little more formal. This piece blends history with art. It is one of the more ornate tags out there, and it retains the hanger tab of General Joseph Hooker. These things, as you may imagine, easily broke off under physical exertion and are quite rare.
Struck by Civil War die sinker and medalist, Joseph H. Merriam.
Have a great weekend!

Good morning, everybody. Beautiful day here in the middle of the East Coast, although temps will be back in the 90s next week, I'm told. Ugh.
here's a pretty little half dime that makes me think of blue skies and sunny days:
Espresso, check.....Gotta call out @Inspired70 for the phenomenal Seated Dollars, amongst the finest I've laid eyes on. How about a little set of Barber Proofs with coffee?

Thank you @Eldorado9. Such fun collecting and hunting for great coins. Those Barber Proofs are mind-blowing. My favorite has to be the 1912, although I debated long and hard as the 1911 is unbelievable also.
On my second cup of Sumatra this morning, a collage with my favorite cup as a gift from my wife, granddaughter when born, retirement gift, a 19the century box with a scale from Eric Newman, and a few coins:

Haha thanks guys- my first $10 Indian- I love it!
Would love to hear your story on its acquisition - where it was found, what inspired you to buy it, other thoughts about how it fits into your collecting journey.....ya know, the coin porn we love. Maybe a new dedicated thread?

This one has a pretty simple back story- a couple of years ago I decided to venture into gold and build a type set, all PCGS/CAC- gold is so expensive and there are so many coins out there I just appreciate the extra confirmation from CAC.
This one was actually offered to me by a dealer friend when he came across it, and I purchased it in a small group with a proof $3 I crossed from NGC 66CAM to PCGS (1880 66DCAM), a couple of early $5s (1800 and 1804 both in 64 CAC), and another $10.
I don’t need multiples for a type set so I’ll probably sell one of the $5s maybe at the FUN show in January. Once I reach a nice box of 20 in all PCGS/CAC I’ll post them all!
This one also has no TrueViews so I’ll probably have PCGS photograph it as well. Thanks for your interest!
I too am waiting for my coffee to brew. In the meantime time I’m happy to show this new addition to my collection. I’ve been searching a long time for a nice addition in this date. I’m happy to say the search is over.
Good morning 😊

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Made a small pickup at my LCS this morning.
138 year old big silver dollar for $28 sounds like a win to me! And New Orleans mint, less.
