Maybe this should have been a 49’ers collapse thread instead of Chiefs.
San Fran from Super Bowl to last place in their division at 6-11

Good point, I agree. SF really did collapse this year.

If I'm remembering right, the 49ers were the pre-season favorite to win the NFC, which would be logical. If not the favorite, they were certainly right up there.

Why couldn't they put Mahomes on there? 😒

Going to be interesting if the Bengals hang on and win. The Chiefs could just tank the game and make sure Burrow cant get in the playoffs

Going by yesterday's performance, that's exactly what the Chiefs did.

If that's the quality of the Chief's back-ups, they had better hope no one gets hurt in the play-offs.

Note that it's rare at this point in the season that long shots wind-up winning the Super Bowl.

Sorry to say that the longer shots listed here are most likely sucker bets. The medium range odds listed are bad bets. Chances are good that the Super Bowl winner will be one of the top 5 teams listed here.

Notice the large odds break between the Eagles and Vikings. It's there for a reason. Bookies don't like giving money away.

I imagine KC will make short work of Houston this weekend. I am excited for the AFCCG. I think KC vs. either Buf or Bal will be a GREAT game!!!

The bookies sure aren't showing the Texans much love in the odds.

So of course the Chiefs get to play the weakest team in their first playoff game. It's the way the Chiefs good luck has been running all season. 🙄

That's just kinda how that #1 seed thingy works...

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,455 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well the regular season is over, and the Chiefs did much better than I thought. Whatever are the reasons for their success, such as uncanny good luck in a number of games, ya can't argue much with 15-2.

I predicted, I forget exactly when in this thread, that the Chiefs would lose their first playoff game. I'm sticking with that call. Yes, perhaps the Texans have about as much chance of beating the Chiefs on Saturday, as Jed Clampett finding oil in his backyard.

Mahomes is going to have to make at least a few major mistakes to lose this game, and the problem is he rarely does that. The Texans basically can't make any major mistakes. They need to play near flawless football to stay in this game, and maybe eek out a close win. We shall see what happens.

Oh BTW, I almost forgot, Jed did find oil in his backyard. 😉

You're smarter than that and should probably change records, this one's broken and run the course. I'm now hoping for a Chiefs/Eagles rematch so KC knocks 'em into next week and gets lucky all game.

Kansas City should change their name to “The Horseshoes.” They get every break without fail. They will probably luck themselves into another Super Bowl.

A terrible call gives Mahomes 15 free yards. The horseshoes continue.

Houston kicker sure didn't help matters any. Missed a friggin' extra point which would have tied the game earlier. Changed the complexion of the Houston play calling.

The Chiefs are blessed this season by the football gods, there is no question about it. I guess they must like Taylor Swift music. 😛

This has been going on all season in favor of the Chiefs. I've never seen anything like it.

Maybe this is a bit of archaic thinking, but win or lose I just like to see a clean game officiating wise. I know it's impossible, but with technology being what it is there really is no excuse. Getting it right is paramount, especially in playoff type games. Get it right, what's a few extra minutes considering what is at stake. It's a long season and the players work hard and deserve it. As do the fans.
And I do not speak not only from a betting standpoint, but for the integrity of the game as well. Remember a blown call that favors your team this week, can turn around next week and work against your team.

Again the one thing that just boggles my mind is how Travis Kelce is allowed to just run routes in the middle of the field with nary a defender around him, it's absolutely perplexing to me.

It happens all the time and I just can't grasp why defensive Coordinators allow it

The Taylor Swift conspiracy thing has to do with the NFL, not opposing teams lol

The Houston Texans don't care about that stuff, If I'm the owner I'm seriously considering firing the DC this morning after that.

It's the next day and I'm still in awe of how they let Kelce run free like they did.

    It's absolutely mind boggling

Agreed can really ignore the whole Taylor thing. Her impact has already happened and peaked out. The simple fact is that the NFL knows what brings the eyes and its the star QBs. Peyton and Brady had very favorable officiating during their careers, Rodgers did too depending who he was playing against. Anytime you have the best of the best QB the NFL refs more often than not will be officiating differently than they would if like Rattler, or Jones is out there.

You need another star QB on the other side to offset it. While super annoying and pretty much everyone wishes it didnt happen, its been going on a long time and will almost certainly continue with the next generation when the Mahomes and Allens age out of the league

I'm usually not a "conspiracy theory" type of person. For example I still believe that Oswald acted alone. That being said, I've been looking at the replays on some of these penalties called against the Texans, and it's gotta make ya wonder what's going on?

It's been said that in the NFL, perhaps in any football game, a penalty could be called on every play. I'm starting to wonder if perhaps subliminally, if not overtly, the refs figure that a Chiefs' Super Bowl win and a three-peat, would be good for the NFL, bring in more revenue, and thus increase the salaries and benefits of the refs.

I'm not accusing anyone at this point of the following, but the gambling possibility of rigging a game can never be ruled out. Although at this time I don't believe that's the case here.

Gee, last time I checked, I thought in football it was okay to touch and shove a player when he is still in bounds. I guess not against Patrick Mahomes?

Classic Mahomes right there, one of these games he is going to get absolutely leveled by a part time player where it won't hurt if he gets ejected or not.

I've always like Mahomes but it's getting to the point where it's hard to be a fan of his unless your a KC guy now.

The rule was supposed to be when the quarterback was running around and evading tackles like a halfback, He could be tackled like everyone else. If he going into a slide, that's a different story. Mahomes was running around evading people. What you supplosed to do, make it into a flag football game because Mahomes is involved? If you took it easy on Mahomes, he's likely to run past you for a touchdown.
