Buffalo had not one, but two superb chances in the fourth quarter to take control of this game. Whether it was the Chiefs defense, or a bit of a choke on the Bills offense, they couldn't do it.
@stevek said: a bit of a choke on the Bills offense
I can't agree with the sentiment about the Bills "choking" in this game because, to me, when a team "chokes" it means that they are the better team and they failed to win when they should have. I have NEVER viewed the Bills as being better than the Chiefs. The better team simply won. On the other hand, with the game on the line as it was if the Bills had marched down the field to win it I could have agreed that the Chiefs had choked.

@stevek, I’d have to go look at that play again. My initial thought is that Josh Allen is too good of a player to overlook that. He had only a split second to view the field before he had to avoid the blitz and the supper answer is that he never saw the player you mentioned.
In a nutshell, Josh Allen and the Bills never had a chance on that play, Andy Reid and the Chiefs out coached McDermott and his staff. 😇

I agree with ya that Andy Reid outcoached McDermott on that play. At first glance it may appear that the defense broke down, not covering that player coming out of the backfield, as he was so wide open. In my opinion it was a designed defensive play. A matter of using the blitz, and trying to sack Allen, and ending the game right there. Allen did get the ball off, but it was a totally pathetic attempt.
Buddy Ryan used to do that type of blitz all the time in spots during a game. The problem was Buddy eventually was doing it a bit too often, and it become too predictable.
BTW, interesting tidbit.... he's related to actor Joe Spinell who was in THE GODFATHER and ROCKY films of the 1970's. He played "Gazzo" the loan shark in ROCKY and ROCKY II.
goldfinger is right. that was a brilliantly disguised blitz by Spagnuolo. almost as brilliant was Allen's ability to get the ball off under extreme duress and give one of his receivers a chance to make a play. Dalton Kincaid has to catch that ball. he just has to. if he had, KC would have had one leg in the grave.
just a soul-crushing drop from a TE, a la Mark Andrews a week ago
Kincade definitely has to catch that ball every time as an NFL player. That might of been Allens best pass of his career and of the season getting rid of it so fast off his back foot running backwards with two guys coming unblocked

THIS. NE tried trading for that Bills first round pick so they could get WR Xavier Legette and Buffalo basically said Hell No. Instead Buffalo dealt it to KC who drafted Worthy who finished with 6rec/85yds/1td & 2rushes for 18yds in their AFCCG.
They could have probably just milked the crap out of NE for their draft picks had they gone that route instead and the Pats still wouldn't have really been any closer to getting out of the AFCE gutter.

I will never understand the organizations that just basically refuse to trade with in their division. I can kind of understand the Mahomes ones if they though that was the best offer but to let KC trade up over the Pats was just a crazy move. I think youre spot on they probably could have milked it more and ended up with a better offer from the Pats. Certainly dont let the team with arguably the best QB in the league and certainly a very elite one that's in your same conference trade up so they can get the fastest WR in the league and pair them up with an elite QB. Thats just shooting yourself in the foot
Now that KC is back in its third straight Super Bowl, who on the Forums believes that if they lose to the Eagles in 2 weeks that this season has been a total collapse for the team?
For those forumites who believes a KC loss in the upcoming Super Bowl will be a total collapse, please explain the reason(s) why you so believe.
Of course, if KC does win the Superbowl in two weeks that victory will be something never before accomplished in the Superbowl Era (a threepeat) and will be touted as the best ever [though the Packer's won the NFL title at the end of the 1965 season and won Superbowl I and Superbowl II at the end of the 1966 and the 1967 seasons; thus the Packer's have a basis to argue that they were the first and only team to threepeat].
If KC wins or loses in two weeks on the last play of the game as time expires (i.e. a field goal is kicked to decide the game; or a player running the ball is stopped at the 1 inch line or breaks the plane of the end zone by 1 inch) the difference between a major collapse and being the BEST EVER will be the smallest of things.
Bring it on,........................ and let's see some gridiron drama!!!!!!!!!!

Disappointment as they will be favored but certainly not a collapse. If anything it should just be scary to other teams. Theyve just been replacing guys that left with better guys

Thank you! That pass was amazing. He had no time whatsoever and appeared to just fling it up. Except it went straight to a guy who was actually open and was very catchable for an NFL player.
I wouldn't consider a KC loss as a collapse when this current Eagles team is every bit as talented as the 2024 Chiefs team. Counting the playoffs, both team have won 17 games each at this point. Outside of the Brady teams, this might be the most well rounded roster that Mahomes will have faced in the playoffs. Barkley has really added a Madden like dimension to their offense.
That all being said, KC just keep pulling out wins, they're going to be tough to beat.
Kincade definitely has to catch that ball every time as an NFL player.
The catch rate on that play is under 50% for NFL wide receivers let alone TEs. The player had to reverse their momentum and then dive and try and catch a wobbly duck of a throw. You see a diving catch made way more often when the QB throws a spiral on an in-breaking route rather than a fluttering deep throw. It actually was unfortunate Kincaid was not even covered as most DBs would have committed pass interference since the intended target had to adjust so much to even make an attempt at catching the pass.
It definitely wasn’t a drop, a drop would be the two point conversion Andrews didn’t catch. It was a tough ball but as Stevek mentioned, Allen had a wide open receiver to his left but he panicked when the chiefs confused him with their blitz.
Here's a different angle video of the so-called "dropped" pass. Obvious to me that Allen basically threw it up and knew a receiver would be in the area. Sort of similar in a way to a Hail Mary, yes there's a receiver in the area. LOL
Bottom line in that situation, there shouldn't have been a need for a Hail Mary, mid field. Credit where credit is due, the receiver tried his best to try to make a brutally tough catch, frankly, almost impossible. Especially because it appears that his vision may have been partially impaired by some players around him.
I hardly even consider that a "dropped" pass. And give no fault to the receiver, and no credit to the quarterback. The problem happened before the play began with poor coaching. All Allen had to do if he was coached right, was hit an easy dump-off pass, that a high school QB could make (yes, comment influenced by Bill Belichick - LOL) and who knows how the game would have ended from there. In my opinion, probably overtime.

I really love it when arm chair QB's who have never played pro ball state emphatically that a play should be made. There was so much going on in that one play everywhere on the field, sometimes as fans we expect the impossible to be done as a matter of routine. Life just isn't like that.

The first camera shot was a bad look but was really the camera peoples fault. The arm strength, accuracy and vision in such a short period of time by Allen was elite. If a ball hits you right in the middle of the arms and you are supposed to be a pass catcher you have to catch that Definitely spot on and his time in the NFL might not be that long other than a blocker with college guys having better hands

I played football grades 7 thru 12, and wide receiver was one of the positions I played. Sorry, no Al Bundy type stories from me (LOL) and I could tell a lot of them. However I do know and understand how incredibly hard it is to make that catch.
In my opinion there are very few players in NFL history that could have consistently made that catch. TO when he was with the Eagles made one of the greatest catches I've ever seen before or since. Perhaps he could make that catch. Randy Moss perhaps could have made that catch. Maybe a few others, but for sure, very few.
Frankly, that catch would be quite difficult to make even in practice with nobody guarding you, and you can clearly see the ball coming, and you know exactly when it is coming. The Bills receiver, dog tired from four quarters of hard hitting football, cold weather, players running all around him during the play, and he may not have had a clear trajectory on the ball when it was thrown. All that and having to make an off his feet lateral dive for the ball. "He should have caught the ball"...are you kidding me?
And don't forget, the receiver has to catch the football without it touching the ground as he catches it. I believe that's what the receiver was thinking when he tried to "manipulate" the catch, cradle the ball so to speak, so it wouldn't touch the ground after he caught it. TMI to process, and too little time to do it. Practically inhuman to successfully do it, unless you're TO. Moss, or maybe a few others.

Polk High Heisman pose one of the funniest characters with Bundy on Married with Children.
I dont really want to have Kincade have his career ruined over this or anything, but it had to be caught. He was open and the KC secondary wasnt really close to him. Bowers, Kelce, Laporta, Kittle, etc catch that ball at a very high rate. Its a bad drop at a very bad time but it happened.
You should have 90+ catch rate for open balls that hit you in the hands or arms. Its more on him that it hit his forearms and dropped it from a great play by Allen
You know once upon a time I playfully teased my late Bostonian wife back during the 2019 payoffs what a refreshing change of pace it would be for someone else (who turned out to be the Chefs) to win the AFC pennant for a change as nearly everyone outside of New England was sick of the Patriots going to the Super Bowl four out of the last five times prior to this.
Now all of a sudden it's the Chefs everyone outside of the KC area is sick off! This will mark them being in five out of the last six Super Bowls!

My recent posts to this thread evidence my curiosity as to what forumites consider to a a Major Collapse.
If failing to win a Superbowl by K.C. currently, or by New England of prior years is a Major Collapse, what then would be considered a Minor Collapse?; or even just a Collapse?
For me, I think that if KC does not win the upcoming Superbowl that would mean the season is a disappointment to K.C. fans (whose expectation and hope is a threepeat).
For me I think that the 2024 fall of the S.F. 49rs from playing in and almost winning the Superbowl a year ago to having a 2024 record of 6-11 (good for last place in the NFC West) and not making the playoffs is an example of a Major Collapse (49rs fans expected and hope that S.F. would return to the Superbowl and win it this year).

If any team can beat Kansas City, it should be the Eagles. They have a great running game, and if they play their cards right, Mahomes will spend most of the game watching from the sidelines.
In the mean time, the Eagle's offense should be able to wear the KC defense down and run over them.

I'd say a "Collapse" is what happened to the Eagles a year ago when they ended the season on that horrid losing streak.
This years collapse definition belongs to the Lions and Vikings in my opinion
If KC loses the super Bowl they still had a hell of a season and have nothing to be ashamed of

Still a lot of game left to play, but normally a championship team has to make that first down.
We shall see what happens.

Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007

I hate that when somebody beats me to the idea. 😉

In some cities, there might be parades celebrating the Chiefs losing. 😉
I said most everyone outside of the KC area! Like a local commercial for UK basketball back in the 90s would say, if an IU fan is watching, they can still watch KY and root for the other team!

I dont know about KC fans, but when the Patriots were in their hay days, any season they did not win a SB was considered a failed season in my book. all the other locals that I hung out with as well felt that way.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
100% Agreed
The standard was a Super Bowl win
Craig44 and Perkdog.
Understood, however do you believe that a Failed Season is the same as a Major Collapse?
If KC loses the super Bowl they still had a hell of a season and have nothing to be ashamed of
If the Chiefs beat the Eagles in the upcoming Super Bowl, I will publicly admit that the thread title was wrong, and turn myself over to the proper authorities who monitor incorrect smack on sports forums.
