@Inspired70 oh, that 1857 is soooo gemmy. Akers name is associated to some of the all-time best coins. Here's my 1913 proof half....She has some color.
Final Red Eye Saturday before the big show (& the first of the New Year). Looking forward to FUN & a good day to post my newest IHC here:
The 1880 S-1 is a very tough 4* variety. I’ve included a description below the pics of this rare die anomaly. This piece is one of 3 graded 65RD with none higher. And, it’s a @winesteven ”special” - double stickered!
Hope everyone has a great Saturday; Steve, I’ll see you at the show!

Eldo: You have some of the most lustrous and colorful barbers in existence. 1913, the year Henry Ford started pushing the Model T down the assembly line. A great year in American History!
In a recent Heritage auction - I won this Capped Bust error - I never knew that a split planchet error ever existed. We usually showcase drop dead gorgeous coins here but this one is down right ugly but hey its a CBD error and those are quite rare. I usually don't disclose how much I paid but it got for less than $200. What can be wrong with that? Good for a coffee & coins Saturday thread

Saturday morning at the Ebb Tide Retreat ... Italian Roast pour-over on the back deck admiring one of the girls from Date Night last night
Todd - please explain yourself here. What is the Ebb Tide Retreat, and what is Date Night?
Does this mean, you're on your back deck, and you went to a local show last night?
If that's your own back deck with that view, I'm totally envious! That looks gorgeous - especially as I'm preparing for the snowmageddon '25 that is on its way.
Great coin, @Copperindian, and special too, in addition to the double stickers.
For the benefit of others, while many collectors may think that having both a CAC sticker and Rick Snow's Eagle Eye Photo Seal is redundant, it's not. Since JA and Rick each weigh the various stickering factors differently, the are many CAC FE's and IHC's that Rick won't sticker, as well as many Photo Sealed Flying Eagles and Indian head Cents that JA won't sticker. I say, having both of those stickers on a coin is having the best of both worlds! By the way, they both have tremendous respect for each other. Rick's Photo Seal is one of the only stickers that CAC will NOT remove when they apply their own sticker!
Ken, looking forward to dinner. I have a nice Napa Valley cab for us, only 457 cases made, and each of the top three wine reviewers tried it - scores were 98 points, 97 points, and 96 points - all three loved it! Hopefully we will too.

Ken - While I like you, I don't like you THAT much, lol. You may or may not know, but I've been on their mailing list for over 20 years, so they allow me to buy three bottles each year! I understand their "Waiting List to get on their Mailing list" is currently around 15 years or so, lol.

Sorry I'm late to the party today. God I love this thread and so glad it's still here this New Year. For everyone who participates in it, I think you'll agree ... it's the one "can't miss thread" every week. Happy first Saturday of 2025!
.
Anyway, coffee was hours ago, and I'm late here because I drove up to Maple Valley yesterday so I could be Super Grandpa ... and the kids could get a Date Night. I just got home about an hour ago.
And then, what do I see here, that crazy guy @Bikergeek is asking me questions regarding a two month old post where I referenced a Date Night!
So, to answer his questions ... yes, that is the back deck ... and I've affectionately named the house the Ebb Tide Retreat. There is minor musical reference in there that at least @TomB might probably pick up on, but I do live in a beach town now, after all.
The Date Night I referred to in that post was having a bunch of the girls from the Dirty Badass Bohemian Chicks over that evening. We took some pictures, had a few drinks, got a little twisted and all slept together.
.
Okay, enough of that ... here's one of the girls from that Super Group

FUN Saturday in Orlando! While I’m missing my usual Red Eye, it’s been a GREAT show! For me, stellar buying AND selling. Here’s the first buy (I’ll save a really big one for next week):
It’s a PCGS AU55 CAC $20 for the tough 1866-S Motto, which began the type 2 era of the Liberty Head gold series. Lasting 10 years, these coins show the denomination as “Twenty D” on the rev, along with the motto added above the eagle.
I won’t have my slab pics until after I return from the show, but the PCGS ID# is 50120872 if anyone would like to look it up.
Interesting side note: the dealer I bought this from shared the “companion” 1866-S No Motto (still a type 1) was also being shopped at the show. These are extremely rare! Purportedly it belonged to the same owner as my coin, had the same AU55 grade & was available for $50k. I’ll try & find out more today & make an edit here if I do.
Hope everyone has the best Saturday!
Update: 1/12/25 - the dealer I mentioned above told me the coin didn’t sell. He elaborated it was in a NGC holder & that he personally didn’t like it as a AU55, let alone @ the $50k price point. Also thought it was short on eye appeal FWIW.
Good morning. Enjoying some Columbian and trying to get used to this new camera.
Always enjoy following this thread might as well post something.
Haven't downloaded an editing program yet so I'll have to post them like this.
Cappuccino in hand and looking over this new addition to the military tokens collection: Fort Knox, Kentucky. 2 1/2c Cue, Pool Hall
Probably used in the recreation room by our soldiers in the early 20th Century. Has a denomination of two and a half cents, which most likely represents a game of billiards.
Love stuff like this!
Have a great Saturday, all. Stay caffeinated

I bought this Kennedy album while picking up some mint sets from a preferred dealer Yesterday. Work just happened to have me within 20 minutes and so I made the extra drive. Anyways I have thoroughly enjoyed looking for my better coins and cracking a few coins to fill the holes.
Check out the progress so far.

Sorry I missed making it on Saturday, but here's the four new girls that came home with me from FUN. More about them and better images in the next few Saturdays to come!

Damn fine haul Big Guy! Looks like your typical unimpeachable quality! Let's hear more.
I would have been better off staying home and posting here. I found out that PCGS stops accepting coins at Saturday noon. CAC was nowhere to be found on Saturday. I couldn't find what I was looking for in SLH, so the entire day was a waste except for the Koala bear silver round and Merry Christmas 1 oz bar I purchased for the gf.
At least Gerry Fortin was still around to drop off a consignment.
Happy “Red Eye” Saturday everyone! A week ago I was still roaming the bourse @ FUN. I picked up the coin below as my final buy of what for me was a great show. Certainly my best FUN ever!
I’ve always wanted one of these; call it a dream come true:
Most all collectors know the 1796 Draped Bust 25C is a one year type. Quarters weren’t minted again until 1804 (& with a different design). It’s a die state 1 with perfect dies. Also a B2 type; R3 rarity. It’s moderately worn (with very even wear). Denticles are complete & central devices are well defined. The coin has deep iridescent gunmetal hues in the recesses, with lighter shades of gray over the relief elements. There are no adjustment marks. With its “circulated cameo” appearance, this piece has exceptional eye appeal. So yes, buying this one is a dream come true!
@Copperindian I have always wanted a 1796 Quarter as well, since the first time I ever read a Red Book (at about age 8). That's a handsome example, for sure! Congratulations!!
.
Well, I've showed it a few times, but here's the image cropped and finalized ... this was the first coin I bought at FUN last week (I actually bought three at the same time), and the one I really couldn't leave without.
Not only a Die Marriage I didn't have, but an upgrade to my 1811 Large 8 set piece.
I had a great time at FUN, and despite the long haul for me (from Washington State), I will be tempted to do it again.

I remember when Bill Fivaz sent me his discovery specimen of this clash mark for my opinion of what caused it. I still think that the hammer die (the obverse) partially fell out of the upper die holder as the press was cycling upwards (such as what might conceivably happen if one set screw failed), tilted down at an angle, and was driven down into the anvil die.
