Took a walk through Allaire State Park today with my cup of Joe. This Hard Times Tokens is from that very location in Howell, NJ. But this one is struck over an 1820 Large Cent: One of my favorite pieces!
There was a flea market out there today, where I scored these charming little wooden wine bottle toppers.

Good morning to all. This just arrived Thursday from John at CRO. The Trueview does very little to show off the luster. It has been hard to put it down since arriving. I never expected to own this high of a grade no motto $5.

A very mellow morning basking in the afterglow of receiving grades and TVs yesterday. Here are some favorites from the submission.
1855 over 854 VF30 - eBay for $103
1855 over 854 VF20 - eBay for $110
I have had a long, clumsy dance with the 57-S for many years. I even returned a beautifully toned VF35 because I saw tic-tac-toe graffiti on the reverse. That coin soon appeared in Rich Uhrich's site and sold for almost twice what I paid for it. I wouldn't be surprised to see it sell again for twice what RU sold it for. It's gorgeous, but that tic-tac-toe graffiti will still be there to say "you lose". Years later, after an aggressive snipe bid on eBay, I was the disappointed underbidder on a P40 57-S. That's when I saw this coin and put all my 57-s demons to rest. I like this coin more than the light-colored, bland EF40, and it was over 70% cheaper! It's like a win on a second-chance lotto ticket.
F15 - cheap from the Philippines, no return. 4-week delivery time. A gamble that paid off.
Here are two coins I purchased because I collect circulated classic commems and thought for sure they were AU. This is what I was afraid of. What am I to do with these unwanted MS coins popping up in my circulated commemorative set?

MS64 - this raw coin closed at a disappointingly high price for an AU ($648). Now I know why. At least it's nice to become "unburied."
Last but not least, a VF35 - purchased at a DC Beltway coin show in 1987 for $95.

It was so much fun to do so! It was an interesting and exceiting submission for me. To see TrueViews of coins I've had for a long time is a real kick. The 55/54 overdates straight grading is like receiving a cherry-picking merit badge for profiting off knowledge attained in this hobby. Here's another one - an early die state VF20.
These late Civil War dates are hot these days. I'm glad I grabbed these years ago.

Yes! There is a big difference in my mind. The chopmark doesn't bother me as it's part of its usage in commerce, but I also don't expect it to command a premium over unmutilated coins of the same grade. Clear evidence of some bonehead deliberately defacing a coin bothers me.
I'll use a convenient excuse like this to take liberties and weasel out of buying a $1500 straight-graded replacement. Risks and shortcuts were taken in assembling my collection along the way. For example. I doubt I'll replace my sweet 53-O A&R over a scratch.
I thought I would reunite the two 1836 Ladies. They look nice together. The 1811 started me down the CBH rabbit hole. I need to add that year in a Half Dollar. Then of course who doesn't want a Draped Bust Half Dollar? Maybe some day though probably an 1806.

I started my Saturday morning with coins early. Yesterday evening I spent time getting reacquainted with various coins in my collection including ancient coins, world coins, raw MS clad quarters I collected as a YN, and slabbed 1939-1970 proof and SMS sets.
I have recently submitted multiple additional coins to out host for grading and hope that some of the newly graded coins will upgrade many of my Registry Sets.

Had the 1942 set out today! This is my contrast set, with my colorful T1 nickel. Seems that was the hardest coin to find, which wasn't expected - the quarter is by far the rarest coin in this set.
Remembering our friend @Jzyskowski1 over a cup this morning. May he rest in peace.
I sent him a photo of this piece I found online the day he disappeared from the forums. I'll remember him for his humor, his love of coins and cats, and participation on this very thread.
