And what a lovely medal! I know he would have loved that one.
When he didn't post here after two Saturday mornings, I had a bad feeling. Even though some of us don't really know each other well, the posters in this thread feel like family.

"Coin collecting for outcasts..."
Thanks for sharing with us today! I really dig the 57-S, and the backstory of that issue for you!
For the heck of it, I found seller's photos of the EF40 for which I was the underbidder. It remains the highest bid for an EF40 1857-S. I recall that I was inching up the final bid in my mind but set a limit not to bid over $1500 for this coin as it was just TOO far of a reach. I hit the bid button with 3 seconds left and -- I LOSE! Wow! Previous record price crushed! [expletive!] "@ARCO is sure going to love this auction result."
That will change when the next EF40 comes up for auction, IMO. Below I compare it with the 57-S "VF-details Damage" (chop mark) that I found as a BIN and grabbed a few hours after the EF40 closed for an $1100 discount. I was really happy with this coin and it tells a more interesting story to me. A great moment in Barberian SLH collection assemblage history! "Slip out the back, Jack! Make a new plan, Stan..." Problem solved! Scratch the 57-S off the list, finally! Oh, how I love this hobby!
And that was just after I had set a new record (Coin Facts) price for an EF40 1873-S ($701), another date that is also destined to experience a major price record eclipse (now at $771) the next time an EF40 comes up for auction, particularly with a CAC sticker. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it doubled in price. It's a very scarce, underrated coin, according to LSCC member surveys.
Don't remember seeing that 20-104 before. Winner for sure!
Shared this image with a new friend this week. Every time I look at this coin I think I'm in love!!
I am having coffee with a text about a coin, I hope that counts for now.
I won this one at GC last Sunday night. Just received a text from USPS that she will be in my hands by lunchtime. Maybe beer with coins would be more fitting.
As a math geek the 30-103 DM intrigues me and makes me wonder how many other palindrome DMs are out there. Research for another day and just another tunnel in the rabbit hole I entered one month ago. I can't wait to see her in hand. From the photos it appears she is a dirty girl with hints of lingering luster.
Saturday mornings are for a quiet cup of coffee and contemplating coins
.
This week was an interesting one for coins (and currency), which included getting a Submission back from PCGS, notification last night about my PMG grades, a package from HA on Monday (the two coins I won from the auction that was going on simultaneously to the Stephenville Auction), texting and talking with Bust Half friends, and anticipation for my winning Stephenville lots.
But maybe the best part of this week was enjoying iced tea and a scone with my good friend @lkeigwin on Thursday, who I haven’t seen in person for over a year. Hard to believe it had been that long. We had a nice hour or so chatting about a mixture of life and coins, family and friends, and I left feeling even more connected to everything good about our hobby and the friendships I have here.
So, along that line, here is an "ex-Keigwin", that came to him from another friend, as it is also an "ex-Ross" .
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”
Good morning gents. Just sitting here enjoying a regular ole cup of Joe while contemplating of all the many thousands of quarters that I slipped into video games in 1982 how many looked this good.
And it’s really hard to say :-) because I didn’t start collecting until 36 years later.
If I can ever find this coffee it would be perfect to have with this newp acquired from @Pnies20
I can't put this one down. I finally was able to capture the reverse (granted I am only using my iPhone and wish Lance had photographed it at one time). My first and only early date CBH. I would say I wish people had warned my about these ladies, but you all did
The 1907-d caught my eye this morning, while I was sipping espresso. Hope you like it. I must say, I am thrilled to see a couple of nice Barber's posted above from @7Jaguars and @NeophyteNumismatist !
Like @pursuitofliberty, this week was also crazy for me! I got grades back on two PCGS subs, one which was lukewarm and the other which was boiling hot.
Here are the 1942s from the excellent sub, though I have already posted them elsewhere.
This is a recent pick up from this forum. Nice original skin with some really cool die cracks on the obverse. I’m sipping my first cup of coffee today when I saw this thread.
I figure Saturday morning is as good a time as many to make a quick collage of the coins I got in the mail this week (combination of a reholder order and some new purchases).
It’s been a minute since I had these Ladies out. High grade Saints are so beautiful and Liberty DE’s always catch my eye. Cold rainy day here. Perfect for something hot.
My favorite cup from my cool Sister-in-law, a market report magazine (close at hand on my desk), and an old friend with some Fall colors and tired Dies (for October)!

I think every CBH collector knew exactly what was going to happen to me , and many warned me in PM's (although then they were also offering me coins, like one addict to another).
The good thing is there are 450 or so in the full set so "beginning a small collection" can mean 100 or so

Today, I am grateful for my 1909 Barber Half Dollar.
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
