@Eldorado9 that 1893 looks like it has been outside in the sub-zero temperatures around the country all week accumulating a frosty skin! Perhaps Santa is delivering her on the sleigh this evening. She looks amazing!

Saturday morning in Tennessee...bitter cold with sub-zero temperatures the last day or so...a couple of pipes are frozen at my house...the power company has implemented rolling power outages for 30 minutes at a time...my son's flight was delayed getting to Nashville last night so we didn't get home until after 2 this morning...BUT...he and his girlfriend arrived here safely...the family is gathering for Christmas celebrations...we have a whole-house generator...the ovens are working so the cookies and other goodies are getting baked and filling the house with wonderful smells...the snow is beautiful outside...and we're all pretty happy, healthy and counting our blessings.
Kinda like this coin...looks rough when you don't stop to think about all it has to offer...but as my friends at @CoinRaritiesOnline pointed out in their description, it's a popular and interesting issue in the Connecticut series for 3 reasons:
1. The distinctive obverse head shape is quite unlike others in the series.
2. The nickname ‘Muttonhead’, first introduced by Sylvester Crosby in 1875, is memorable and catchy.
3. The topless depiction of Ms. Liberty on the reverse is downright numismatically scandalous.And it's among the finest known.
I know...it's a bit of a stretch and a little cheesy perhaps...

Fresh brewed and my Xmas present. It completed my reverse proof ase collection. Got em all. 2006- 2021. 2011 was the most expensive by far but matches my 2006 examples blue ngc holder😁. Both 69’s.

Looking over this gorgeous Civil War token this morning over some Colombian java:
1863 B. Kittredge & Co. Cincinnati, OH. NGC MS64RB ex. S. Tanenbaum
This is a fairly common variety, but it's the nicest I've seen. Unsurprisingly, it came from the legendary collection of Steve Tanenbaum. Loaded with pinks, and blues, and purples, all in a kaleidoscope cartwheel luster.

Back from a long vacation visiting family and enjoying the holidays!
Nice coins posted.
Something different today from my travels (a very good brew from the town where my daughter's glass studio is), and then a coin and short story.
Okay, on to the coin.
Over the holidays a friend contacted me with some coins he was selling (quite a lot of them actually). Not ideal time for me as I was without my library, guides, books or notes. And I was enjoying family time, and travelling from point to point around the Northwest visiting.
But that first night, the more I thought about it, the more I thought I better look and see, and act soon, as I knew many would be gone quickly. I reserved two, and over the next few days, culminating on New Years Eve I agreed to and paid for several more.
I don't have them in hand yet, as he was off to FUN, and I was off in the NW and didn't want them sitting at the PO, or worse ... but since I have some images, I will show one, just the same. She's about the same color as my coffee with half and half, but SO much more interesting!

Drinking up and dreaming of this baby I let go in a moment of weakness:
For the curious, it is a Civil War token. Alot going on here. For starters the obverse is a full brockage (mirrored image of the stag.) This happens when the planchet gets stuck and the token is struck again with the struck coin now acting as the die. Secondly, that die (J.L. Bode, birdstuffer from NY) is muled with an intended reverse die from Connecticut! Third, the Connecticut die says "City of New York" on it! (Confusing, I know...but it was the name of a ship not a location!)Are you still with me? Drink more coffee! 😆

I'll just drop this here for everyone to drool over. Not mine, but rather a dealer friend, who acquired it for a client. This is the Ex. Norweb example, residing in a 65+ holder....It transcends numismatics, and rises to status of national treasure in my eyes.
