Yea, I read that BF. I feel bad for the 76 Topps guy. This is my 1st submission. I sent 99 cards and 5 packs. I went over all of them with a 30 power scope. It took me a week to select the 99 I sent in. I was hoping 9's and 10's. After reading the proceeding pages, I am now worried.

I hear that. A guy that has been doing this for 35 years (I think he said that long) was off on the grades as much as he said, I really have to wonder what mine might be. LOL

it will likely be 12 months or so

I was hoping there was something I was not factoring in. That's insane.

    Thanks

I think it will actually end up closer to your original estimate. I wish I was joking but once they re-open and get a flood of new submissions at higher service levels, all the value service levels, Economy and Collectors Club subs are not going to get a sudden emphasis in a soundly run business.

So yes, I am thinking it will probably be closer to 2.7 years than 12 months based on a reasonable interpretation of the data we have been provided, the difference in profitability (if you can grade and bill for one scrap of cardboard for $8 or a different one for $150, that’s a no brainer) and my belief that PSA will be flooded with cards at every service level they open.

While all incoming orders have been inputted which is great progress, there is no stated goal of completing any percentage of it and I don’t see much of a dent in the largest and most backlogged areas - bulk, economy (which now also has every CC sub that used to be considered Regular) and/value.

As the tiers at $300, $150, $75 etc reopen? Those card can, will and need to get priority.

    As referenced above?

i think the expansion plans of adding additional locations will play a factor though.

something fairly big is in play supposedly.

You thinking McDonald’s drive thru wait time, more like SGC’s new website is coming wait time or the album Chinese Democracy wait time?

for those that subbed packs prior to october 1 and while i havent gotten any back yet myself, ive heard they started shipping some out yesterday.

My packs arrived 10/13 but weren’t logged until 1/14 - do you think that means I’m a few weeks away, or a few months away? I know you don’t have a crystal ball, but just curious if “subbed” in your statement aligns more closely with “arrived” or “entered”... Thanks either way for the info.

if i had to guess, you will probably be in 2 months time.

it's looking like this batch was for packs actually logged by 11/15ish time period.

grote will probably give you a little better insight into how often psa sends bbce the packs and when.

eta: actually, i might push my guesstimate out another month. your log date is right on the bubble of that first massive influx they talked about after the first price increase, i think.

Thanks. That’s kinda what I figured. I sent 2 subs in together that were both entered in Oct - one pre1981 and the other post1981. The pre1981 was logged in Nov and came back to me in March - I figured I was still 2-3 months out on the newer packs based on other pack sub feedback in this thread, but I was hoping your message might have been a sign of things moving faster than normal. Oh well.

That is really bad news. I have spent almost 3 weeks choosing and prepping another 300 cards. I was going to wait and see how I did on the first order before submitting. At this rate it will be four years. Now I am not sure what I will do. Maybe wait till the market crashes again. :o

I don’t think it goes the full 2.7 years. And if you’ve done the work? Send them in. Though maybe cull them down again and when you send them in, maybe do it in smaller, staggered batches.

The idea that wait times will improve at lower service levels seems unrealistic BUT I’m a total amateur. Don’t go by me. Either way, PSA is the best and I don’t see an alternative to getting in line.

They’ve certainly made a TON of improvements over the last 5 years. This is a major issue that I hope they’re able to add to the ‘crisis solved’ pile soon.

They’ve got an elephant to eat. Only way to do it is one bite at a time.

Not that this helps many in this thread, but thought I'd share that a ticket reholder - talk about an outlier sub - popped this week in case anyone dabbles in tickets.

    Arrived - 4/26
    Entered - 5/17
Shipped - 6/1 (back to the future!!!)

I have another fresh ticket grade sub in flight (arrived 3/18, entered 5/14), in case that helps any ticket graders out there.

I received my 15 free cc order back a few weeks ago. Overall disappointed with the grades, just about everything came back a grade or two below from what I was expecting. Only one 9 with the rest being 7's and 8's. I am not complaining as my last several orders were very Good. I typically send in 70's and 80's cards and have developed a pretty good eye for submitting over the last couple years. The majority of my cards usually come back 8's and 9's with a few 10's sprinkled in, so this order was definitely tighter than expected. I have a couple more value orders logged in, who knows when I will get those back but hope to have better luck with them. As for this order, here are some pics of the highlights, these are all super sharp, dead centered with good print. Thought these should have graded higher, but you guys can judge for yourself.

I think that PSA's new grading tech. (microscope, machine grading etc) has helped cause lower grades, along with new graders. The cards I received last week were at least one lower grade than ones dupes I have sent before. My question is...does anyone think the cards graded with the new ID #s 500 etc. will be preceived to be a higher quality or grade than past ones.? Those 7s above look at least as good as previous 8's or more.

at the very least. more so, i think in a year or two, existing 10s values will get dragged up in value significantly. however, i do not think the “new 10” being equivalent to a bgs black label 10 marketing ploy/effect is good for the overall hobby. thats definitely a “buy the flip” scenario.

one could counter with “grading scales have gotten tighter since exception” and would be correct. however i think that is natural. early 10s were given out and sort of needed. however the collecting community as a whole evolved into a “buy the card not the holder”. and psa has been in business for over 20 years. with something as subjective, opinion based & easily open to scrutiny, consistency needs to be key. hence the crackdown on crackouts. obviously new management understands this concept. however its basically a laughable situation when you want to be consistent on certain valued cards but show such overall inconsistency on the overwhelmingly majority of cards that are being returned now.

Super Express CTD jumped 7 days and value vintage jumped 2 days. No other movement on the CTD today from yesterday. Quarterly specials has not moved since 5/17 and it is still the furthest behind with a CTD of 8/9/20. Nice sub by the way!

@OAKESY25 - I hope that lag in shipping doesn't mean something was damaged in assembly or as they were about to ship and it's just slow because it's slow.

OK guys. Looks like they are knocking out the value modern right now. Had my second order pop. I was really disappointed on how harsh they were with my 76's as they were truly some of the nicest I've seen. A few members pointed out some printing flaws in some of the cards that I may have missed though.

This sub comprised of all of my best 75's a few 76's I decided to send later, and some odds and ends. I didn't think the 75's were as nice as the 76's and my expectations of this sub were much lower, although they were pretty strong cards. Most were comprised of maybe 4 sets that I had combined. I'm pleasantly surprised by the grades on the HOFers, as the Carolton was the only one that I thought was really high end. I think a couple of the MVP cards are undergraded, namely the Mickey Mantle/Hank Aaron as those were the one's that I thought were super high end. But overall no complaints about this sub. They have always been very hard on 75's so I see no difference with these grades as I have my past grades. I'm walking off the ledge, lol...

PS - I always mix one or two weird duds in my subs and I managed to avoid that for the most part here. A couple of random 6's and nothing lower on 75's isn't all too bad for me at least.

I got these in today, Plus the Luka Prizm 2018 RC PSA 10 and a 9.

sorry to call this out, gobraves. but this kinda makes me mad. so much for those grading standards. esp on a zion which, imo, they seem to grade even harsher!

    Some recent movement:
Economy order checked in 11/16 popped last week
Bulk Modern check in 9/15 has been in QA2 for about a week
and the newest...a 1980s Quarterly special checked in 8/22 moved to Assembly TODAY!

I did okay on the 11/16 Economy, but I got a lot of 9s that easily could have been 10s. They also hit me with a N5 Altered Stock on a 69 Mantle that I had since I was a kid.

Nice to see some stuff moving, I'll update when the Modern and 1980s pop.

it’s funny. even zion is looking at it to make sure the rc logo badge is properly stamped.

    vs.

i posted an example. there are plenty of examples w mistamped logos pre-4900000 certs. thats kinda my point. they let them fly outta the gate prior to cracking down on standards. im not dogging your card. im shaking my head at the lack of consistency after thrashing everyone else. trust me, im happy for you!

eta: see the outline vs my example above

Looks like I too have succumbed to age, and no longer have the ability to accurately predict the grade of a card. I have went from the ability to predict a gem mint 10 70's card at about 10-15% accuracy over the last 15 years down to 1.9% accuracy now. I always mix in a dud or two, so I don't worry about that. In 25 years of collecting 70's cards I've never come across a nicer lot than what I sent in. I've built 1976 sets by combining upwards of 15 sets, opening rack packs/wax packs and cello's and this set alone was as nice or nicer than the combination of those 15 high end sets. If there were truly only 2 gem mint 10's in that lot, then it is beyond worthless for me to ever buy cards with the intent on submitting them, because I have zero idea what a gem mint 10 card is, hell I don't even know what a mint card is any more. NOT 1, NOT even 1 of the 1976 hall of fame players I sent came back a 9, when I felt the Morgan, Rice and Perez all had VERY good shots at gemming. 10 months of time having my money/cards tied up and I believe I would have to sell every single card just to recoup my thousand dollars worth of grading fees if I chose to. The good news is I'm now the owner of a $3K 1976 set with one of the top 23 ellie hendricks and tommy harper cards in the world, so I'm very proud of that (sarcasm being poured on thick)

    Jeff

wow, I don't know whether to cry for you or spit out all kinds of harsh words...in either case, so sorry to see these results...what is maddening to all of us submitting cards to PSA is that we continue to hear crickets when it comes to grading standards changing and also in regards to the cracking/resubmitting situation...just crazy

That is the only issue I could find with the card as well. I don't think it would look out of place in a 9 holder.

I would guess if you sent bench it with a less quality submission or less well centered cards that could end up a 9 without seeing a closer picture of course

    Order Type: CC vouchers
    Card total: 2
    Order delivered: 10-27
    Order received per PSA: 11-20
    Research & ID: 11-20
    Grading: 4-8
    Assembly: 5-13
    QA1: 5-28
    QA2: 5-28
    Shipped: 6-2

Grades popped and something definitely isn't right:
    1 51501234 EXCELLENT 5 1985-86 Merchante Campeonato Baloncesto Liga 173 M. Jordan Blue Back
    2 51501235 VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT 4 1987 Panini Supersport Spanish 4 Michael Jordan

The Merchante was originally glued into the Merch-Camp sticker album and was removed by the seller in Spain that I bought it from. (IIRC) It had noticeable paper loss in multiple areas on back and I had asked for it just to be slabbed AUTHENTIC rather than take the chance that it might grade a PSA 1 or Authentic Altered depending on the grader. Under any other circumstances I would be very happy with a PSA 5 but if I decide to sell this at some point in the future I'm almost definitely going to have some difficulty doing so because the back doesn't match the grade.

The Panini SS was originally a BGS 8.5 that I tried crossing in slab to a PSA 8 with no luck so I cracked it and subbed raw. It had subgrades of 9.5/9.5/9.5/7.5(surface) and looked great when I shipped it, I'm afraid to see what that sticker looks like now to warrant a PSA 4.

Once I get a good look at both cards I’ll have to see about shipping it back to get corrected.

kind of long & more geared towards modern subs but worth a watch. even for the primarily vintage subbers. certainly echos what weve been thinking & saying for the past couple of months. the change in percentage numbers is astonishing.

How have they not made a public comment about this yet?! Worst PR decisions ever.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that the new label PSA 10's are going to be viewed like BGS black labels.

I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

The one thing I do not like about guys like this that set themselves up as experts is that his data goes back to 2018. My 19 year old son has spent more time in the hobby and was grading cards in 2016. I do not like ultra modern 9s either, but his logic only comes through an ultra modern card worldview. I think to really get a grasp of what the market does you have to factor in several more factors than how his Panini Revolution Lebrons grade. He does make several great points however and has good data. I do not think PSA's tightening will help anyone else's value at all though, especially those ugly CSG slabs. That is just wishful thinking because he is using them.

While I make fun of you conspiracy folks, PSA definitely looked at ultra modern cards and decided they were giving too many 10s and tightened things up. I don't think things have changed for older cards but it is certainly possible that could happen going forward. Folks either need to get used to PSA grading on ultra modern or quit sending in subs. Folks that sub 80s & 90s & 00s cards know that the % of PSA 10 expectations for ultra modern graders was totally out of whack with non-ultra modern issues. I am glad to see PSA finally using some common sense when grading ultra modern, they were way too generous giving 10s in the past to ultra modern.

In general, if PSA starts adding a Genamint label, those cards will be more valuable than the same grade without the label.

In the long run, this will make PSA 10s more valuable, even for modern, and keep the value of PSA 10s high. PSA doesn't want 10s to be like the BGS 9.5s, which were/are a joke and have been completely rubber stamped by BGS graders for modern for quite a long time.
