January 2021 pickups thread.

Started the new year with my first Mahomes. I just became a Chiefs fan. This is what happens when Jets decided to win a game.

My Christmas present from my brother. We have collected together since the time we were kids and buy each other cards every year for Christmas and birthdays. It is really nice to have someone close to me appreciate the hobby.

Added another 71 myself

A Jim Brown rc came up for sale/trade on another site I frequent and I was able to get it. I've kind of wanted one to pair with my '58 Topps CFL Cookie Gilchrist. Though Brown had the far superior career, if you ask players of the day, you might get a toss up as to who was the better football player. I'd like to get it signed. Maybe if we have a National this year.

picked up another 87 Bonds as I feel these will keep going up eventually. plus 1987 is my favorite Topps year from growing up.

this also delivered today. another just finished at auction for twice as much as I paid just a week or two ago.

After looking at some of the awesome pickups on this month's thread , mine is going be like a dump in the woods in terms of value .
I picked this card up for my Dwight Evans set . Its only a PSA 8 and got it very inexpensive BUT ITS A Top Pop 1 and in fact its the only one graded .

There’s just something about hope that is part of any acquisition or, for that matter, submission. Here’s a tale that’s both. When I found this particular example, it was not listed perfectly, the pictures were pretty blurry and I didn’t have a great vibe. So, I put in a bid at the end of the auction that was like, ‘No matter what happens, I can live with it at this price’ and when it ended and I’d won, I just kept hoping for good luck. When it arrived, I was in utter disbelief and glad I had trusted in hope.

You see, this set is a total beast and this is one of the key cards. These cards - as a general rule - were glued in an album and retrieved in modern day times with a soak with just about every single copy on the market. So they pick up glue stains, tears, edge wear and (wait for it) worm holes! Yes, Cuban worms often ate the paper and make perfect little circles in the cards! Before I get sidetracked, the set population is terribly small as is the this players population (13, high of VG); PWCC sold the two highest graded examples of this card last year (it’s images are on PSA APR and PWCC Auction archive) and suffice it to say, and knowing all that I know, I think this card has a shot. A real shot.

Now, I find myself trusting in hope once again as it makes it’s way to California.

1946 Propagandas Montiel #39 Martin Dihigo

I added another card to my lacrosse collection today. Card #35 in the 1933 Indian Gum set features a Native American ball player, holding one version of a lacrosse stick. This card can actually be found in five different standard versions:

• Blue banner, Series of 48
• Red banner, Series of 48
• Red banner, Series of 96
• Red banner, Series of 192, "More cards" split over two lines
• Red banner, Series of 192, "More cards" on same line

I also found a sixth variation, though it is more of a printing error than a true variation:

• Red banner, Series of 96 with Series of 192 overprint

I picked up the "more cards" split over two lines variation, and need only to find the Red banner, Series of 48 to complete the collection.
