I'll let wondercoin speak for himself. But, as I say, he's right down the road from PCGS. He could have opened the boxes right in front of them and screened them there if he wanted (and they let him).

He also could have submitted some of his thousands of coins sealed. Or he might have just misspoken. As I said, the ones his son is selling are First Strike not FDOI.

    Although here's one:

Fox9487... feel free to ask a serious question anytime.

A small % of my slabbed coins will be FDI. The vast majority FS.

Also, in the case of the MS68PL... I just offered someone an FDI coin for $10 more than a FS! I might not do that forever, but I was ok with it. Justin has them priced about $80-$100 apart in his ads speaking “apples to apples”. So, far he has sold only FS coins (unless the guy took the FDI for $10 more). I don’t have any interest in asking a huge premium for one vs the other in the case of RS coins - at least as of today!

    Good answer?

    That’s an old link:

There are FDOI slabs later than what’s listed in the link.

    and the answer is

he said it on the 24th. But again, he's right down the street, he can walk them over and open them right there if he wants. He also could bulk submit the sealed boxes. He had a couple thousand sets.

  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,988 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jmlanzaf... of course FDI were submitted first, so we got back those orders first. Followed by FS orders many of which are still in the system. So, Justin has both FDI and FS Coins on eBay. Will the FDI prove to be a better value for buyers a year from now at maybe a 10% premium today? Anyone’s guess.

help me out here. if I buy 10,000 sets and you buy 10,000 sets and you walk yours down the street for grading and I send mine Ups from the north coast, are we both entitled to the FDOI attribute? Where is the cut of point?

FDOI is ONLY for correct by hemi, bulk submitters.

I have learned that FDOI is not that important to me it’s the coin and not the slab. B)

Yes, but if your planning on buying that many coins/sets from the Mint and want FDOI then it would be best to call our host to find out if they are going to do FDOI for the coin/set.

  • WAYNEASWAYNEAS Posts: 6,954 ✭✭✭✭✭

I know that I am pushing this, but if you buy the first 10,000 sets on the initial day of release and then I buy my 10,000 sets with in the last 30 days of release, I am still entitled to the fdoi attribute. Here I am only trying to learn.

FDOI on the first and FS on the second. Unless there is change. Always best to call CS.

Oh, and bulk submitters get a bit of price break; but you have to follow the rules.

FDOI is ONLY for dealers. If you are not a dealer you have to buy from a dealer. I am NOT a dealer so PCGS will NOT give me that option. I even offered $200.00 over for each coin but they said NOPE! I could not even bribe them. Now if you do not like that your beef is with PCGS.
That is what PCGS told me a year ago. However Wondercoin will submit for you as he has said here that he has for members here. That makes him a special dealer. All my FDOI coins came from a BIG NAMED DEALER. Now they won’t stop calling me! :#

I have learned that FDOI is not that important to me it’s the coin and not the slab. B)

I agree with the FDOI not being important for you or me. I am just trying to understand how the system works. I do not hold any malice against any one following the rules. It is nice to see that good people will submit coins for you. I think that they call this piggy backing, but am not sure. There is so much that I don't know about the way things are done and really look forward to being enlightened by those who know and are willing to share. I am not a member of PCGS but do have several registry sets in the top 10. I just asked PCGS today if there is any special consideration given to registry set owners. I would love to have several of my coins re-slabbed but it is not worth the price to become a member to do so. I await their response. Again thanks for your insight.

"Good answer?" Actually, no. Question was not answered at all. I get that you live down the street from host headquarters but overnights from mint actually......

All I saw in your "answer" was a "promo" to sell some coins. Maybe your answer would be better served in the BST.

Wonder how is Japan? I been there maybe 25 years ago visiting all my relative. One of my most memorable times. I hope your having a wonderful time. So many beautiful people there.

  • wondercoinwondercoin Posts: 16,988 ✭✭✭✭✭

Japan is always wonderful. Was there for a few weeks back in late October/ early November... this time in Tokyo. Great weather that time of year. The city is gearing up for the 2020 Summer Olympics. I was able to buy my 2020 Olympic shirts, etc. a year and a half early! My favorite city though is Kyoto. Charming.

I flew out this trip to Hong Kong in connection with the Stacks auction that just took place this week. I also have a wedding to attend in Cambodia and a few other things to accomplish out this way. Cambodia is another fascinating country filled with wonderful people. No money exchange needed. They take USD.

My grades on my first 8 (sent sans rocketship) posted. All 67's and 68's with NO PL designation. So the only way to get the designation is to send in the rocket.

Good thing we had an insider to pass along the PL information...otherwise all of mine would have gone without the rocket.

Was there even a formal announcement about it?

Well, I did send a few Rocketship sets intact thru the modern service..
grades posted. No PL designation however they are labeled Rocketship set First Strike
Guess I have the only few Non PL Kennedy's produced and inserted into the rocketship sets.

Yes, I've been watching those listings. Unfortunately, I can't afford that at the moment. I'm torn whether I should take the plunge or wait until there's more clarity surrounding the uniqueness of this coin. The scheduled release of the Uncirculated Coin Set on May 14th has me a little hesitant in going all in on this coin.

There is nothing unique about the coin. There may end up being something unique about the slab. But you have to want to collect plastic.

I would encourage you to look at the price of an MS70 Block Island quarter now and when they first came out.

    Jmlanzaf...

    As always, sound suggestions.

When Justin was accepting offers in the range he has been (and listing them well under the $2,000-$2,500 range of the competitor grading company coins) I am fairly confident a “correction” of some sort had been built in to the numbers. It might be way too tiny a correction (or too much)... time will tell.

There is an open bid for a PCGS 69PL FS (not my coin) with some days to go sitting at under $500. It should be interesting what that coin fetches in a true auction as well. The price of the BIN PCGS 69s has been rising, not dropping, which should help that open bid auction.

    Just my 2 cents.

Do you know anything definitive about the use of the PL designation on non-rocket Kennedys? That's really the wildcard here. If they use it on Mint Set Kennedys, the population is going to go up faster than the price. If they are only going to use it on rocket coins, they've essentially created a rather odd rarity with only 50,000 rockets it would make 2019-D rocket coins the RAREST business strike Kennedy by a mile. [I mean, if you consider a 2019-D rocket Kennedy as a separate issue from the Mint Set coins which the slab would.]
