1922-G German - Weimar Republic, 3 Mark, Die Cap Mint Error, 28mm Diameter, Aluminum
I started my journey in this hobby as a young child living in Germany. So after I finishing a US mint error type set I started a German one. Although over 32 million 3 Mark's where struck between 1922-1923 I've only ever seen 3 other major mechanical errors which are all minor percentage off center. This is the only German die cap I've ever seen on denomination larger then 10 pfennig. With aluminum being such a soft metal it's amazing that not only this escaped the dies of the press and mint intact, but also remained undamaged since. Having been multi-struck the design elements on the obverse expanded and peripheral script moved up the walls as they mushroomed onto the die. This was in the personal collection of a German error dealer in Germany for over 30 years and we negotiated a deal for nearly a month until it was mine.

Ricko..FYI on your medal.. date 1845 was the year Ludwig was born. I have no idea when this medal was minted.
Ludwig II of Bavaria aka: Crazy Ludwig. He was responsible for building masterpiece castles. ... Neuschwanstein, (Disneyland's castle is copied from Neuschwanstein) Hohenschwangau Castle, Linderhof Castle, Herrenchiemsee..
