I know this is the US section, but I'm sure many of you dealers and collectors of US coins also have at least one foreign piece ashamedly hidden away somewhere. Let's see them

Over the next decade (from 1914), one heck of a lot of poor bedraggled Germans dreamed about 'the good old days' when they had a silver mark in their pockets.
Not that that particular one mark was ever in anybody's pocket!

Here's a Roman gold aureus of Claudius from 44AD depicting the Praetorian Guard camp. He was brought to power by the Praetorian Guard after they assassinated his nephew Caligula and minted this coin as a means of thanking them, paying each member a 150 aurei bonus (approximately 10 years of salary):
