My point was that if you are looking for that coin then it doesn't matter where it is listed but THAT it is listed. Why search just "Franklin halves" rather than "all categories"....
General search...Franklin Half PCGS....or whatever
Different if you are trolling Franklin half category rather than just searching Franklin halves...
Good point again .. always search in all .. The Fact set not listed in coins ..means .. lower prices reflect market...
The one warning sign is sellers starting to thin out .. meaning sellers following buyers losing interest in set
An interesting buy under 20 bucks
Auctions reflect true market price, value ..not BIns
Auctions reflect true market value if you have a handful of items and a plethora of bidders. I guarantee that if you listed 50 1909-VDB in XF/AU at $0.01 with no reserve that you'll actually end up selling a few for under $1. I know a guy who did something similar - it wasn't a VDB but a similar priced coin.

So if I list a set in the category "Pet Supplies" and get a lower price, that price reflects the true market?
You are talking about a 1 off price of $9.73 ..... many 225th set sales in the $20s.,, with many bids ....so set's price discovery not that well hidden ..Just like my ebay score on the 3 Pc 2006 Silver Anniv set... a ways back the going price for the set was circa $279.. my Ebay grab was for $106 ... because listed differently
..Face it .. price is weak for 225th sets .. waiting to grab under 20 bucks
...and I one got a raw 1885cc Morgan for a $60 'cuz it was listed wrong (as a 1885 no cc) but that doesn't determine true value (actually graded MS65 ATS)

It won't go under $20 bucks anytime soon, because I'll buy hundreds at that number...if there are even that many available. Look at the price of raw cents and raw halves and even the quarter sets. You can break even at $30, you'll easily make money at $20 by splitting them up.

hard to say, but many here found it in the wrong category
How many people here found it BEFORE it ended? And how many people here bid on it? The only reason we found it is because the final sale price stood out as ridiculous.
I'll keep saying it...because you expect me to: the price on the raw sets has not moved in months. Still true. Once BE is done dumping their "wholesale collectibles", you'll be exactly where we've always been: $32-$35 BIN, $28-$30 auctions. As it has been for months.
And, at the risk of being accused of pumping...every set that sells DECREASES the supply overhang. They are mostly ones and twos going to people that are going to hold them for a fairly long while.
No decrease in supply overhang ....over Thanksgiving Holiday, saw 15 boxes unopened 225th sets......over 500 sets sitting in a dealer's garage... unsold ...... look for more dealer liquidation of dog inventory, by yearend, to off set profits made in 2017 .

Who in their right mind would put this for sale in an auction? The only hope you would have is to put it at a BIN and cross your fingers....two sold yesterday at $49.95 + $5.50 shipping. There ARE clueless people out there ....on both sides

For Dec 1st, on ebay .. set sales ranged from $25 - $32 ....with sales continue on the decline
Any dealers buying ,would offer $ 18 - 23.......My friend stopped buying the sets
Maybe An interesting buy under $ 20
You continue to cherry pick your data...right in the middle of BE dumping sets. BE is selling hundreds of sets at 1 cent no reserve...and they are still getting to $25 to $32, even though they are listed in "wholesale collectibles". And you only want to use those numbers to establish market.
Dealers buying at $18-$23 means a market price of $30 or more. ALL mint/proof sets are dealer buys at 20% to 30% back of retail. Sometimes as much as 40% for the cheaper sets.
Bullion Exchanges looks like only seller raw of sets on .. Ebay range $23 - $32 in last 2 days.. over 600 sets sold By B.E. so far .. with hundreds more running in current auctions

Not the only, just the busiest at the moment with their dumping program:
By the way, if anybody still wants to buy one of these sets and lives in the Philadelphia area, the gift shop inside the Philly Mint is still selling these, I saw it there this morning.

That's odd. They haven't sold any online in weeks. I guess they don't pull back their inventory from the gift shop.

I think it's because the gift shop is not run directly by Philly Mint, it's probably outsourced to a company like Aramark. I think I even saw a few commems in the cases for sale dating back to 2011.

Well, they are almost all BE. They've flooded the market with their silly no reserve auctions. Although even some of those are getting over $30.
I'm still buying anything you have at $20. You can still break them up for $48 gross..
LOl .....First ,some posters said BE listed in wrong category... now only B.E. selling .. well that says it all... no interest by buyers ... so it brings less sellers to sell
Still.... interesting buy only under 20 bucks
My dealer friend heading to FUN show next month.... maybe he will take the offer for sets to free up his money sitting in garage

These are really looking bad today. Multiple auctions ending in the low 20's on eBay. The market for these is heading for $20 very quickly. I didn't think they would hit $20 this quickly. $15 by mid 2018?......it sure looks like it.
those poor people that bought 1,000's of sets at the Denver show. some probably lost 20 percent of their net worth or more. the u.s. mint is making retirement a tough thing for the people close to retirement

That is not at all what I said.
Proving there is a market, wouldn't you say?

it is common to have a u.s. mint product to lose 50 percent of it's value or more
Yes it is common but not this quickly.
BE is losing hundreds of dollars per day
I agree, not this quickly
those poor people that bought 1,000's of sets at the Denver show. some probably lost 20 percent of their net worth or more. the u.s. mint is making retirement a tough thing for the people close to retirement
the short term price is going to hinge on how many sets BE is going to blow out. I bet he has 1,000's left. why else would he be doing no reserves?
heck he's even selling lots of 5 in no reserves, not too smart
I did one no reserve auction about 15 years ago and got burned pretty bad, haven't done one since
