I have 138 sets at an average cost of $25. I've sold 150+ sets at an average price of $37. I've been quite open and honest about that. I have $3500 still into these sets. I sell $200,000+ in coins per year. Do the math, they represent less than 2% of my inventory.
I HAVE NEVER TOLD ANYONE TO BUY SETS. I HAVE NEVER PREDICTED ASTRONOMICAL PRICES. I'M GETTING PRETTY TIRED OF GRUMPY OLD MEN ASSUMING THINGS.
I'M THE ONE WHO SAID THE PRICE HASN'T MOVED. I'VE COUNSELED AGAINST SLABBED SETS. I'VE BEEN NOTHING BUT HONEST ABOUT THESE SETS.
WHEN I POST THAT THE PRICE DOESN'T MOVE, PEOPLE ARGUE WITH ME. WHEN I POST EBAY LISTINGS TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THE PRICE HASN'T MOVED, PEOPLE ACCUSE ME OF PUMPING THE SET.
I AM NOT PUMPING THE MOTHER-EFFING SET. I AM SELLING THEM AS PART OF MY COIN BUSINESS.
ONLY A SELF-RIGHTEOUS, SELF-IMPORTANT ASSHAT WOULD THINK THAT THIS BOARD IS THE COIN MARKET. PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD KNOW ABOUT THE EU SET. IF I WANTED TO PUMP THE SET, IT WOULD BE ANYWHERE OTHER THAN THIS BOARD BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO STILL DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE SET.
Crusty, self-important asshats helped to kill the stamp market by discouraging new collectors with their arrogance. With a little luck, you can do the same to the coin market.

I was thinking that bullion.exchanges re-entered when they needed to sit out while jesse james keeps the sets up in the 30's.
I was thinking that b.e was going to drag sets down to under 30
I think that is playing out but in a different way.
I'm wondering if buyers are avoiding b.e to avoid picked over sets. (very likely picked over, imo.) However, there will be a side effect of lower sell prices for others in the market as they take the lower price with potential lower quality.
I think the b.e move will drag sets under $30 on average.

I think that placing several leading spaces on the first line sometimes produces this font.
Actually, it's kind of distinctive.

3,000th post reserved for ?..... Put in some bids for the 225th set ....maybe buy low and sell high ?
Who in their right mind would put this for sale in an auction? The only hope you would have is to put it at a BIN and cross your fingers....two sold yesterday at $49.95 + $5.50 shipping. There ARE clueless people out there ....on both sides

Looks like the $9.73 set was listed in the "collectibles" category rather than the "coins" category. Probably the sets in the low $20's were also. Which might explain why they didn't receive higher bids.I didn't find them because I was searching in the "coins" category.
Recent prices in the "coins" category have ranged from about $27 to $37. Nothing below $26 in the past month. That's more reflective of market prices than prices realized in the "collectibles" category, where fewer people are looking.

Auctions on these sets have been weak since August. [Although not that weak!] It has been fairly common for auctions to go under $30 all along. I really don't know why people bother. I learned 15 years ago not to run $0.01 auctions with no reserve unless I was willing to take 1 cent for the item.
The only odd thing about Bullion Measures "clearance sale" is that their fixed price listings still exist at $35. Seems to me they' be better served just selling them all at $30 fixed rather than mess with the auctions.
Most of the BE auctions are in the Collectibles/Wholesale category for some reason.
That $9.73 came up on my search. What is the advantage to confining a search to a specific category? I just put in the search terms and let it fly...sometimes catching an outlier. Yes, there are a few interesting items but most if not all are appropriate

Prices continue unchanged. BIN are 32 to 35. Auctions are all over the map, generally in the 20s. Been that way largely since August 3rd. Occasional sale in the 40s.
Generally speaking, unless there are specific reasons for a listing not being in the most popular category for itself, then prices realized, as a pure auction, will be suspect and outliers. Only if it is listed, at the same time as a multiple category listing, in the correct category, would I validate it.
Which is more likely to be an accurate perception of the "real" value of a high end Franklin half? Let's say it is even slabbed in PCGS MS67FBL:
A) Listed only in bullion Listed under US Coins ----- Franklin Halves
?

My point was that if you are looking for that coin then it doesn't matter where it is listed but THAT it is listed. Why search just "Franklin halves" rather than "all categories"....
General search...Franklin Half PCGS....or whatever
Different if you are trolling Franklin half category rather than just searching Franklin halves...

Good point again .. always search in all .. The Fact set not listed in coins ..means .. lower prices reflect market...
The one warning sign is sellers starting to thin out .. meaning sellers following buyers losing interest in set
An interesting buy under 20 bucks
Auctions reflect true market price, value ..not BIns

Interesting....so the fact that some are willing pay $49 is just a fluke....I probably agree...but....I still say it is dumb to put these at auction never knowing how low they will go AND with present added history. Just list them at $32/$35/$49 whatever and see what happens....$32 is better than nine bucks

Much worse ..18 bidders...wow...... under 10 bucks !!!!
more money being flushed down the toilet with another failed u.s. mint product. we can all go to work in the morning to make up for the loss
maybe the best move would of been to return the sets
I know my exposure to u.s mint products in the future will be very limited
the 2005 u.s. mint sets did the same thing, they tanked completely before Christmas 2005
The drift downward continues..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
when you think about it, there are not many u.s. mint products that didn't tank

3,000th post reserved for ?..... Put in some bids for the 225th set ....maybe buy low and sell high ?
Prices dropped today Into the low $20s ...many more big holders of sets next to sell ? maybe the teens$$$
I saw prices realized on the last 20 eBay sales ranging from $27 to $37. I would be a buyer at $20 or less.

Bullion Exchanges appears to be blowing out their inventory in no reserve auctions.
You won't see any more under $20, because I'm bidding them all up to $20. Impossible not to make money at that number.
Uh oh

Several in 22-25 range ..
You can sell 2 coins to get your $20 back.
