That would make sense. However, in this case several less expensive sets were up from long time coin sellers with excellent feedback, including mine (now sold) when the $379 set sold. I've seen this same thing with many other numismatic products. As in this case, I just don't get it. Ebay is at least interesting.

I dropped off a bulk submission of dimes at the Long Beach show a few days ago... just before the First Strike cut-off... hoping for much better grades this time around
Had lots of interest in the sets and dimes at the Long Beach show as well. Also had many more people that hadn't yet seen the sets or hadn't heard of them at all. Seems like there is a lot of opportunity for demand to grow as more and more collectors learn of the set and decide they want it.
bestday, I think this series has seen its 'best days'.....the hype won't work anymore IMHO. >>
In the "tv sales" area, i think they could move raw sets of these in the low $100 area easily.
But them buying sealed boxes or already graded sets would require a higher sales price
I am uncertain about sales of these at a higher price point in the future. They did move quite a number of high priced ANACS FDOI sets. On the other hand future sales would not be FDOI and pricing a PcGS first strike 70 set in the same park as their ANACS FDOI would kind of kill their main grading-sales point tool.
<< <i>MOD PCGS graded 3 coin set goes unsold for $119.99 >>
It says "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing." So it might have gone unsold, or it might have been pulled for other reasons. It might have fetched a bid or two if the auction had run to completion.
There is really no comparison with this set. It is the first (so far) Reverse Proof dime minted and only 75K made. The Roosevelt proof dime mintage has to go back to 1951 to find a lower one for the other dime.... again only in this set.. So whether the hype is over or not I do not know. My gut tells me this set has some staying power especially because of strong sales. When the mint makes another Reverse Proof Dime with a higher mintage this one will become the key.....
bestday, I think this series has seen its 'best days'.....the hype won't work anymore IMHO. >>

<< <i> With the all ANACs sets sold by TV seller, surprised they aren't tried for a flip .. meaning they were bought as a keeper >>
Last couple of weeks there were more for sale but in the $550-599 range...obviously didn't sell....and you are correct about them being "keepers". I REALLY doubt informed coin collectors/sellers would but those at the TV price just for a flip....it's grandpa buying a set to save for his grand kids....and others who bought the TV hype
...and re: NGC POP's....not out of whack for their normal special set percentages so definitely expected and factor in already. The only real outlier in the grading game is the PCGS RP dime...must be something THEY are keying in on....I am definitely no dime specialist but I am pretty good with deciding which ASE's to have graded. I looked at my 8 RP70's under magnification and they are stellar...no issues at all and, IMHO, deserving of the grade
I am quietly selling out of my PCGS 70FS sets off my website ($550/set list price) without the need to "give them away" on ebay for whatever reason. The PCGS coins appear to be well received by the collecting public and honestly my only real concern at this point is possibly selling out entirely of the 70FS sets and being unable to replace them later at any "reasonable" rate for the next group of collectors that might be looking for them come the start of the Christmas season.
Just my two cents.

Bestday ... I understand that you believe I can get more than $550 hammer a set for 70FS right now (at GC and possibly elsewhere). But, with "weak sisters" out there selling the sets for literally whatever they can get (i.e. entertaining lowball best offers in my view), I sincerely doubt that GC could compete against that and get bidders to pay MORE than they can buy a set for on my site ($550), ebay, etc.
That said, again, my comment has nothing to do with the fine job GC can do with a consignment.

now it is too costly to upgrade them for sale.
I keep going back to the tv people. I think tv people will keep demand for these up well into the future, just like the 2014 Sacs. With that in mind, this person might be able to sell in the future once other "more popular" graded sets are sold off. They likely just need to wait it out.
That was Sunday and 30 minutes later a set went for $143.50 as mentioned in a post

A Blue label ER set went for $232.50 followed 12 minutes later by an FDR label set at $305...others were up/down ...$332, $281, $304.69
Bargains are out there if you want to find them....no reason to buy at the top price of the day...
PCGS sets (even 69) still scarce but prices don't seem to be reflecting this fact.... I would have thought there would be a crapload of both NGC and PCGS sets flooding the market by now....might say something
No clue what the market is for either the FS or reg label of the RP since there haven't been any sales of either (alone)...obviously no one thinks $254.95 is appropriate for the reg
Regarding that regular label RP....it is from a POP of TWO.....51 submitted for regular label...two 70's...a respectable 3.9% rate vs right around 30% for the FS submissions....and it did not sell....not like there is going to be a boatload of 70's to follow
To this day I still don't get why the words "First Strikes" or "Early Releases" make such a difference to a coin's value when it comes to moderns. It's just an arbitrary submission deadline. For all we know, some of the coins shipped after date X may have been struck before some that shipped prior. Public perception seems to be that those labels are "real" PF70/MS70/PF69/etc., and if the coin doesn't have that designation it's only a 69.5 or 68.5... but that is purely a fantasy. The very epitome of hype.
I'm sure this topic has been flogged to death before... but I still don't get it. A 70 is a 70.
"I'm sure this topic has been flogged to death before... but I still don't get it. A 70 is a 70."
Nah, it hasn't been flogged much, the FS issue; more so, pounding a big metal blade into the FS head, then hanging it until it was almost dead but not quite,
then taking it down and drawing and quartering it, then sewing it back together, then hanging it again, then shooting it full of arrows. But not flogged.

As mentioned several times... the real PCGS percentage for reverse proof 70s is nowhere near 30% but is instead closer to 10-15%. The pop reports do not show you the coins PCGS has "graded" but which have not met the submitters minimum grade. So when a bulk order comes in to PCGS of 100 reverse proof dimes w/ a min grade of 70... and then only 10 get PR70... only the 10 PR70s get added to the pop report while the 90 others do not get entered in the pop report anywhere. Accordingly, the percentage of coins grading 69 and 70 are significantly exaggerated if you only look at the PCGS population report.

The minimum grade is that, the minimum you want. You can set it at 69, 68, ..., 62... I sent in a few dozen sets and my PR70 % was VERY VERY low, less than 15%. All the others graded 69. I had 9 rejects on the $1 proof coin with a min grade of 65.

I have witnessed the history being that 69's are typically a break even point, at best. With costs, sometimes the 70's, too.
The 70's have become the only possible "winner" and that becomes dependent on milk spots and a very fickle market for moderns.
And then you factor in the significant smaller value of NGC under PCGS, and oh what a gamble.

...I agree but.....3% vs. 30%..... if I was thinking about submitting my after FS coins for grading it would be DEFINITELY squashed seeing those stats...what's the point...and the non-FS 70 doesn't sell!!!! Major DUH
Some price Collapse ..eh ?
