Dwayne Haskins is 1 of only 2 power five QB's in history to throw for 50 touchdown passes in a season.

Another winning bowl record for the BIG TEN. I'll take it considering they were the underdogs in most of the bowls.

Not bad. Two years in a row. They went 5-4 and they were favored in 4 games. The only favored Big Ten team that won was OSU. Michigan, Penn State and Michigan St all lost as favorites. All Big Ten East teams

Michigan state was favored? Hard to believe because they faced a team that averaged 40 points a game.

Not sure how Michigan was favored after all those players announced they were sitting out.

They were favored by 6 all week. Then the line went to Michigan by 4 by game time

That psu Kentucky game was crazy. Penn state almost made the comeback. Special teams mistakes lost that game for psu. And a questionable decision to kick the field goal down 6 with 4 minutes to go from inside the 20.

For many years I was excited for the Bowl games, now I have no interest unless it is a BCS game. Too many mediocre teams, best players holding out due to potential injury, and they mean nothing. Need to have a larger playoff system (either 8/12/16 teams), would create a little more interest

Agree about too many bowl games. Disagree about a larger playoff system. That's what
makes the regular season so exciting.

If you want to make it to the big dance then................
    1. Schedule and beat tougher opponents
    2. Don't sign a letter of intent to ohio state.

Tough to narrow down to four teams with 5 major conferences and lots of one loss teams. Agree that teams should not schedule the cupcakes, like they currently do. How does a team with Georgia’s schedule and talent not have a chance? Granted there will always be teams “on the bubble”, have that issue in a 64 team NCAA basketball tourney. The FCS has a final 16, but I think that is too many. I still feel 8 is the best.

I think 8 is too many. If you took 8 this year Michigan and UCF would have made
It. No bueno. Too much difference between 7/8 and 1/2.

Maybe you reward the number 1 and 2 teams with a first round bye and let #3 play number #6 and #4 play #5. Get to a final four that way.

I agree that would have worked out better this year (6 teams, OSU & Georgia), and that Central Florida and Michigan were not deserving this year. Every year is different, 6 would have been ideal, this year. Next year, who knows. Either way, the 2 best teams are playing for the Championship this year.

. Alabama and Clemson were clearly the best two teams in the country by a wide margin.

LOL Georgia should've beat Bama, and Clemson played a shit schedule.

Okay, who are your 2 best teams? OSU and Purdue?

My Dawgs definitely did not show up to play. Disappointing. Was surprised they got that 3rd td honestly. You could tell the kids were thinking they should be in the playoffs, but definitely showed why they aren't. Alumannoyed.

The Top 25 final rankings will be out in less than a week. Then we will see who played the tougher schedule.

Josh Jacobs, a 3 star recruit out of Oklahoma. They didn't want him so Saban did his homework and offered.
He ran around and over the Sooners and made 'em like it, go Josh !!

Regardless of complaints about the system the top two teams are playing. The tournament should NEVER choose teams according to projected ratings.

Too bad they are playing the game in Cali. I love my state but we are not good sports fans. Tough to fill a stadium when the teams are from 3,000 miles away and the local sports fans just don't care that much. I am not driving two hours to get stuck in traffic hell on a work night... and a likely cold night since Nor Cal tends to be cold in winter. Not fun.

    Correct

    1) Bad choice of venue. Not a college bastion

    2) two teams from across the country

    3) teams from smaller major colleges ( population) with not a tremendous amount of alumni living away from home base

    4) no major airports near Clemson or Tuscalousa. There is a saying that when someone dies in Alabama their body has to connect through Atlanta to get to heaven.

    5) flights are $1000 and up. That money would normally go straight to the cost of tickets ignored one could drive. I can’t see too many people making a 3000 mile drive from Alabama or Clemson.

Last year was a perfect storm for the finals. The venue was in Georgia’s and Alabama’s back yard. Ticket prices were at $3k.

The other thing is burn out. These teams and fan bases have been there done that. It’s not their first Championship rodeo. Far from it. If it’s a Michigan or Penn State or anyone else that hasn’t been before Levi Stadium would be sold out at high prices. Clemson and Alabama own this. It’s no longer a novelty.

The truth of the matter is that you have the two best teams in the county that are undefeated playing each other. Under any playoff format the odds are this is the match up you are going to get. That’s all you can ask for. It is what it is. I for one can’t wait to watch this.

Even some ESPN personalities are saying OSU should've been in instead of ND or Oklahoma.

Just because you're undefeated, doesn't mean you can beat every elite team.

  • orioles93orioles93 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would hope Clemson was undefeated. Before ND, they played 2 teams that were ranked when they played them all season, and they were NC State and Boston College. They ended up 9-4 and 7-5. They're toughest games were Texas AM and Syracuse, they ended up 9-4 and 10-3. Clemson didn't exactly play anyone tough. They may be a great team, but it would have been nice to see them play someone better during the regular season.

So true Garnett and just because you're undefeated doesn't mean you can beat Purdue.

So now Georgia fans can say OSU needed a Georgia QB dropout to win ;) Kid is a stud though so will be interesting to see how he does.

Unfortunately ND was never going to be bypassed with an undefeated record. OSU would have definitely done a better job than ND but we would have still ended up with the same two teams playing for it all.

We will never know. When you have the best QB in the country, anything could've happened. And welcome new Buckeye Justin Fields. He has a strong arm and has Braxton Miller like speed. He should flourish in the OSU offense. UGA's OC doesn't have a clue what to do if he can't run like it's 1995 all over again.

I wonder how the good folks of Santa Clara County, in the heart of Silicon Valley, will be as hosts to the fans of both Alabama and Clemson who travel from the Deep South to San Jose, Santa Clara (with a side trip to SF) for a vacation and a seat in Levi Stadium to watch the title game.

Hopefully the fans of both teams will be treated well, though I suspect that some of the the locals would be off put by ardent fans loudly vocalizing support for their teams (i.e. "Roll Tide!!!!!!).

looks like Clemson is taking it too the Tide. with the First Half over it must be an unpleasant Alabama locker room, I would assume that Chief Saban is using his oratory skills to get everyone's attention and the Second Half should be spirited. I only wonder if Alabama has enough left for another comeback.
