Painful to watch Red Sox in first inning again. Betts kills potential great start by getting picked off (again!) the Eovaldi spots Chicago a trio of runs. Ugh!

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Worse yet, the Tigers got screwed (indirectly so did the Red Sox) in the 8th inning, up 5-4 over the Yankees...one strike to go to end a Yankee threat, clearly a swing by Voit that was not called to end the inning...Yankee go on to score 3 and win the game 7-5. Bad call by 1st base umpire, the bat clearly went over and beyond the plate for strike 3...Gardenhire squawks and gets tossed.

Situations like that should be a reviewable challenge, given the gravity of the call.

Red Sox seem to be putting up some real stinkers lately. Can't stay hot forever, but this is not at all a promising trend

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

Getting Rodriguez back sure seemed to help tonight. Sale should be right behind him mopefully.

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

the last couple of weeks do not have me "looking forward" to the playoffs :#

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tampa and now the White Sox? C'mon!

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

seems the bullpen did better today by just throwing it hard away from the middle of the plate. If only they would tell Kimberly.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

Looked like a few players weeded themselves out of the playoffs today.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,600 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Back up to 9.5

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 8,976 ✭✭✭✭✭

Brandon Phillips had one helluva start to his Red Sox career last night.

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

breaking news: Joe Kelly still sucks

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

The good news is that this is his last year of his contract !

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

Alex Cora will have an option for the postseason. Someone will have to be left off that postseason roster

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

More than one needs to disappear but the problem is they do not have any replacements for them that can make a difference.

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 8,976 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well they came away with one win for the series.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Another great Red Sox win, while the Yankees are being CRUSHED by the Twinkies...back to 9 up.
Cora pinch hits Holt for Moreland...3 run dinger!!

Now a guaranteed playoff spot...and, better yet, at this pace a LOCK for the American League East title and home field advantage.

AND, I win $200 sweet ones from those bragging Yankee fans at my club. B)B)

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

Bullpen held it together today too. That was the best part

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

no surprise, Price saying he has no plans to opt out of his contract. He says it is because he has a chance to win in the postseason with Boston. He did not mention the 32 million dollars per year he will be receiving or that he really has no clue how to win in the postseason

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 8,976 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just got their 100th win,now they're at 100-46 on the year, Price pitched great and was surprised that he got pulled after 7 when he was cruising along.

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

is Price setting us up for the postseason (setting us up in a bad way) or has he really regained what he had lost for a couple of years? Please, be the latter!

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,600 ✭✭✭✭✭

I heard on the radio this AM that this 100 Win season is the first in 72 years for the Sox! Not since 1946 have they had a 100 Win Season, congrats Sox. I prefer a World Series Win over 100 Wins btw

  • bronco2078bronco2078 Posts: 10,212 ✭✭✭✭✭

TV showed some bald guy getting domed with a flying bat that cleared the netting ouch!

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

TEN GAMES UP Yankees choke, 3-1 to the Twinkies.

CONGRATS Boston Red Sox...AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST CHAMPIONS.

A tad early, but Dandy Don came to mind, and with just 16 games to go...pretty locked up. Gonna LOVE Aaron Boone being in the visiting dugout (Red Sox), and watching the season end with the Red Sox as champs of the Division.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,600 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Agreed Al!!

after reading his 35-0 comment yesterday then seeing him go pitch the way he did last night,I'd say his head is in the right place right now. He's been really good this season and I know he still has to do it in the playoffs but at least this isn't last year when he was coming out of the bullpen. We'll see how he does but there's at least a reason to be optimistic with him this time around.

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

Joe Kelly is not pitching at the major league level, been going on a while.

No telling what the result will be, just watched him load the basis due to inability to hit spots with the right pitches.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

Kelly is not the only one not pitching well ! I watched 2 innings and had all I could stand tonight. Turned the tv off and read a book,

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

close game, Kelly didn't participate. Maybe Cora has figured it out?

  • BLUEJAYWAYBLUEJAYWAY Posts: 9,045 ✭✭✭✭✭

Good to see Sox come back after JBJr. had his 3 run HR taken back.

Cora has given quite a few of them enough time to make out the post season lineups ( in the old days you could say " hang themselves"). It is always nice to have a large enough lead so you can make the necessary adjustments without losing that lead.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Mookie clearly gets robbed of a home run by the replay team in NEW YORK, of course. Even Ray Charles could tell it was a home run. Met's fans go wild as the HR is reversed, but eerily silent as the Brockstar plays wall ball and adds the final 2 runs to the winning score. If my math is right, the magic number is now down to 4. Yankees down 8-1, fight back to make it 8-7, but still choke and lose. Could call the division win in Yankee stadium.

Yankees now trying to hang on to the wildcard as they hold a slim lead there. I'm suddenly a BIG Oakland fan and hope the Rays hit a slump. Would love to see the Yankees drop out of the whole thing.

Strange these Yankee fans...my buddy still thinks the Yankees have a shot, despite overwhelming odds against the team. B)

Wright gets the save today just like the days of Wakefield .

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sox now 11.5 up, magic # is 2, and will probably clinch the division B)B) in Yankee stadium this week. Sweet, sweet.

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was happy to watch Wright pitch the 9th :)

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Well, the Red Sox need to win just one game in the Bronx this week to nail the Division title. So, so sweet that it most likely will happen in Yankee stadium. Ending the season with the Yankees in Fenway will be even better, they have to look at the standings in left field for 3 games.

I don't think the Yankees players really care. For the Yankees, the goal is always win the World Series. As a fan, that's always my goal for the team as well. While the Yanks are really under performing since the All Star break, there is still a chance at that goal. Seems some Sox fans care more about besting the Yankees than winning the big prize. You should no longer have that inferiority complex since you won a couple of WS already but I guess it's deeply ingrained. ;)

That you have the opinion that the Yankees players really don't care, is beyond laughable. Far too many egos and history for that to be even remotely believable. Boone etal want to hammer the Red Sox in the final 6 games, but, it won't happen. Most likely, the Red Sox clinch the division on Yankee turf, either today, tomorrow, or Thursday. SWEET!!

The WS is always the end goal of every team, however, you have to get there to win it. The joy of CRUSHING the Yankees in the Division, and in Yankee Stadium, is merely a very enjoyable leg on that journey. ALL, not just some Red Sox fans want the WS win for their team. I thought it lame that you come up with such nonsense...although expected from a Yankee fan, who's team is very close to flaming out. Yankee fans always feel entitled, after all, they've won a zillion WS titles.

Better you had been a bit more humble and expressed a more congratulatory tone toward the Red Sox team accomplishments than the same ole, same ole, Yankee fan sad song.

Boston Red Sox, 2018 American League East Champions, bring on the playoffs.

  • bronco2078bronco2078 Posts: 10,212 ✭✭✭✭✭

American league east championship is just a T shirt slogan like the ridiculous first to 100 wins T shirts they are selling. Wake me up when they win a round or even a playoff game with Price as the starter

  • BaltimoreYankeeBaltimoreYankee Posts: 2,990 ✭✭✭✭✭

I remember last year when the Yanks were battling the Astros to go the WS, some people here were saying the Sox' accomplishment of winning the division was better than where the Yankees were. Don't get me wrong, the Sox have an awesome team and have accomplished a lot this year - maybe they win it all but if they don't, the regular season doesn't matter - it's a means to an end.
HOWEVER, if they lose, I can guarantee I will see a lot of bitching on this thread about how they suck, how Price sucks, etc, just like I see every time they lose a game or two. Try sticking with your team, folks!

We agree! There are a couple of posters in this thread that pop up from time to time, mostly when the Sox team, or a player within falters somehow with a bad pitching performance, or bad throw, or some error.

One of those posters was Pitboss, who dropped out because I challenged some of his posts and he didn't like it. Anyone, IMO, who posts should be prepared to stand by/defend what he posts. I have no interest in those who like to hide behind their keyboard, toss out trash and then kinda lay low till the next opportunity. He contributed some nice posts, and is the OP in this thread, but when I simply asked to clarify what he wrote, he took it personally and, childishly, took his ball and went home. He slammed we with other crap, but that gets off topic.

I'll certainly give you props for a good post...surely you realize the history between the Yankees and Red Sox. For a Red Sox fan to see their team putting a nail into the Yankees is sweetness...not like beating any other team...it's just the way it is, and, I'm sure vice versa. It's just the Division, but a key step to a home field advantage and more than just a one game winner take all wildcard spot...like the Yankees will face. You cannot imagine the crap heaped on me from two Yankee fans at my club since last May...I will see them tonight, each owe me $100 and I assure you, I will reciprocate BIG TIME.

I've been a Red Sox fan for a very, very long time...sink or swim, their my team. I will say, I was BIG TIME down on both HanRam and the fatty at 3rd base (Sandoval), who were being paid a mind-numbing salary for a bush league performance. Everybody has a slump, these two were just useless.

Batter up in 10 mins. B)

They changed game time to tonight.

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

Raining cats and dogs there. Hope they can get it in tonight.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah, I saw the live shot from Yankee stadium, heavy rain. I doubt they can rehab the field in time for anything today.
Maybe they play a double tomorrow.

  • MCMLVToppsMCMLVTopps Posts: 4,831 ✭✭✭✭✭

Too many missed opportunities to nail down the win and the AL East Div title. Bullpen was dismal...I suspect this will be the potential downfall of the team in the playoffs. Why did Cora rest Betts? They already had a day and a half off in NY...he was well rested...not too mention in a race for MVP. Betts could have gotten the key hit to either tie or win the game. Odd!!

On a personal note...I humbled at least one Yankee fan at my club last night, the other was MIA. I think walking in with my Red Sox cap on and jersey, found him trying to hide...all in fun, but I got my licks in . B)B)

    Price is in post-season form!

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

Sure glad I went to the book store today to pick up some good books so I did not have to endure that. I recorded it just in case I wanted to watch it later but I doubt if I will.

  • BarndogBarndog Posts: 20,490 ✭✭✭✭✭

Price and October just don't seem to mix. He must be able to smell October from here. Remember the hobbling-in during last year's homestretch? Did it begin in NY this year?

  • tommyrusty7tommyrusty7 Posts: 2,016 ✭✭✭✭

I have already erased that tape unseen!

Nothing like a party in Yankee stadium when the Red Sox win the east.
