This is the link I meant to reference two posts above.
So you have to change the topic from brutality to sentencing using an obviously biased source in an attempt to score a point? It shows localized disparities at most, not a nationwide problem regardless. Target Oklahoma for sentencing guidelines, I could get behind that. You might want to check the source of data provided, as I'll immediately discount any data provided by 'interviews', 'voluntarily self reported', and other such sources with zero reliability that are presented as hard 'raw data'.
Unironically using Slate as a source for any argument, however, deserves no further comment on any response you post from me.
The first step to understanding what is really going on in our communities and in our country is to gather more and better data related to those we arrest, those we confront for breaking the law and jeopardizing public safety, and those who confront us. “Data” seems a dry and boring word but,** without it, we cannot understand our world and make it better**.
It's showing data from several states so how "localized' is that? No one is keeping statistics on brutality and no one will. You think the police are going to right themselves up?? The bottom line is that you're not going to accept any data that doesn't fit into your narrative. If you seriously believe there aren't social injustice issues with the police and the court system, that is for you to live and deal with. The players don't agree with you on that because they have and are living it, either personally or through people they know in their communities.
I may be wrong, but I am taking it that you view us (one's against protesting during NA) as narrow minded and do not really see a problem in this country. This is not the case (at least with me) all I want is respect for the Flag, NA and Country.
Total # of law enforcement officers in a given year - 900,000
Total # of civilians killed by law enforcement officers (ten year average -1,052
So in a country of ~320 million people, a rounding error is far greater than those who paid the ultimate police brutality price (0.0000032875 or 0.00032875%) or if you want to look at it another way 0.11% of LEOs kill someone in a given year in this country. This doesn't factor in those that were justified, so forgive me if I don't think police brutality is one of the more important issues facing society today even if 100% of them were of a single race.
Census, survey, and self reported data is highly suspect. In their most recent report, the BJS (used heavily in reports you noted) cited 4 of their 5 sources as census or survey data, only one of hard data and they provided insightful vignettes such as this:
A third of American Indian & Alaska Native inmates were held in local jails & Indian country jails in 2014
Any reasonable person should consider anything they produce as suspect.
I've view anyone as narrow minded (at least as it relates to the specific issue) that wants to trespass on the sanctity of the Constitution.
I guess that is where we differ on how we see this issue and how it relates to the Constitution. Like someone said before ,,,,,, no one here will get there mind changed by what we state here. I like the fact that it stayed civil and the powers to be didn't remove it or ban anybody.
I probably won't post on this anymore, but will check in every once in a while to see how things are going.

Yes, finally hard data! It still doesn't show any sort of injustice or racism, but we're getting somewhere. Now find other hard data to relate it to and maybe we can have a conversation.
How about this, of those 1052 police killings/year the average is just over 1 officer convicted of manslaughter or murder/year. I'm sure there are AA and/or Latinos on many of those juries, so what does that mean for police brutality? An inflammatory talking point or a whole lotta nothing outside the extreme margins? Hmmm....
So Steph Curry is ANGRY at SI for not including Kap on the new cover displaying "Unity". Talk about being ungrateful and ignorant, Kap Should not be allowed on that cover for being a fraud the way I see it. And Curry should be happy that the biggest sports related magazine is actually making the effort to publish what these athletes are trying to promote.

My statement about the ridiculous of this conversation topic over world topics that really matter would have offended, the edit delete is what they all fight for so we all comply with a communal mind.
Assimilate mentally or be deleted, that's what society has been guided toward now as the only options.
This should probably be deleted too as it doesn't comply with the directive.

DIMEMAN, I understand your passionate position on this even though it clearly does conflict with Constitutional rights. That their protest is covered as a Constitutional right is not debatable. So the other question would be any workplace rules they are in violation of and since the rules do not seem to be explicitly exclude what they are doing, and their employers have given them the "go-ahead", there should be no issue here. You don't have to like it (I don't like it though not to the extent you don't), but they have every right and permission to do what they're doing. And once again, they're doing it because their life experiences and that of their friends and families are markedly different than yours and most all of us here.
I guess I can't leave. My position doesn't conflict with the Constitution......I believe in being able to protest.....Just not during the NA and disrespecting the Flag! And as far as not breaking rules in the work place...it IS against the rules of the NFL.
I know for a fact that protesting where I use to work would NOT have been tolerated.

DM- so you believe in being able to protest but under certain terms. That don't jive with the constitution. People don't get to pick and choose. That defeats the entire purpose. There are no asterisks in that document.

It certainly does conflict because you're just exchanging what YOU believe should be the rule of law as oppose to what actually is written in the Constitution. Please enlighten us as to where it is illegal for the players to be doing what they're doing? NOT what you "believe" they should be doing.
As for the rules of the NFL, the quote you cited doesn't support it unless you want to interpret it only in the way that you want to interpret it. There are no specific issues they are in violation of according to the language. And in such situations, the deference is given to the more lenient position.
As for where you use to work, it wasn't playing for an NFL team so your comparison is apples to oranges.
I am not making up the rules.....it is in the NFL rules.
I don't think any employer would allow protesting in the work place.

Most all of the data is posted by organizations with agendas. But on the conservative sites, I don't see much data to review quite frankly. And whatever data gets posted, conclusions are drawn however the reader wants to draw them.

I agree to that. I am a Trump fan all the way...BUT....I wish he would stay off twitter and stop getting into arguments with the public.
I interpret that as Baseball being an angry person, probably due to the fact that he might not chose to peacefully protest and fight for what he believes in outside of message boards and is angry that there are two sides to this argument.

I may be wrong, but I am taking it that you view us (one's against protesting during NA) as narrow minded and do not really see a problem in this country. This is not the case (at least with me) all I want is respect for the Flag, NA and Country.
I'll accept any hard data like this:
I saw that piece last night. Heartfelt piece from someone who has served this country, too.

I could go into why these numbers are the way they are.........but some folks wouldn't like it. And those same folks deep down know why also.
That kind of bias is why these guys are kneeling in the first place.

You know exactly why!
Just got back from yoga. I thought you all would have had this settled by now.
DM- so you believe in being able to protest but under certain terms. That don't jive with the constitution. People don't get to pick and choose. That defeats the entire purpose. There are no asterisks in that document.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
So you don't think there should be any limits. What if I busted into your house and started protesting something at you and your family?? According to what you just said I would be within my Constitutional Rights!
Objection ..... Hyperbole ...........Sustained
Don't rants like this scare you in the least?? The last line does me. Sounds more like a dictator then a president.
"Spoke to Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. Jerry is a winner who knows how to get things done. Players will stand for Country!"

He is just blowing smoke he don't mean that ....... Even he can see there is no evidence that Jerry Jones is a winner or knows how to get things done.
Thanks. Saved me the trouble. Geez

The only thing in his speech or whatever it was ...I didn't like....was calling the players SOB's.....that was wrong. I thought Jerry handled it great Monday night. He kneeled with the players BEFORE the NA. And had them ALL STAND during the NA. Great job.
You're reluctant to discuss hard data because it doesn't support your narrative or that of the 'protesters', but happy to throw out article from Slate or the ACLU. Hmmm....
I am not making up the rules.....it is in the NFL rules.
I don't think any employer would allow protesting in the work place.
Because it doesn't fit his narrative? Because logic and common sense gets in the way and he ignores it? Because he want to have his cake and eat it too? Take your pick

Interpret this however you wish...
I agree to that. I am a Trump fan all the way...BUT....I wish he would stay off twitter and stop getting into arguments with the public.
Why did you cut off his LOL's? For me at least it's all about the LOL's
I interpret that as Baseball being an angry person, probably due to the fact that he might not chose to peacefully protest and fight for what he believes in outside of message boards and is angry that there are two sides to this argument.
It's not my narrative wanting the Flag, NA and Country to be respected......It is what all Americans should want and do!
I have always been a Trump fan. I may have toned it down before for fear of being banned. I've been banned before for getting into it with fan1987 and don't want that to happen again.
@baseball said:
I'm guessing the 8 abuse flags came the way
Not at all. It is you who are reading things into the Constitution ......like the judges that say burning the Flag is a freedom of speech.
You are a little mixed up....Trump replaced the BIGGEST CLOWN EVER!!!!
just checked my calendar but apparently i never marked it down.............when are we all getting together to play keno and drink boone's again?
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
I love you Jon but it's the opposite. There is no room for, " you can protest peacefully EXCEPT". No one gets to decide that

Can we all take the personal attacks down a half a notch? I would have said a full notch but I kind of like them a little.

If you mean Bush you skipped a guy in between
Mark I love you too. But as a Vet that spent a year in Vietnam and lost a cousin there and there probably isn't one family in this Country that didn't lose someone in Vietnam and all of those Men and Women who gave there lives for this Country....it will NEVER be OK with me to disrespect the Flag, NA or this Country. NEVER.
Mark there are exceptions to protesting peacefully or not. There is a time and place for everything, while on the job I believe this should not be allowed nor do I think that people who don't want to get involved should be subjected to any of it.
No, Bush was good...then 8 years of the worst President ever (beating out Carter)....then Trump who is trying to fix what Obama did.
If you are a Obama fan...we have NOTHING to talk about!
There are few places we can go to get away from politics and personal agenda's, one is our living room. There is no room for agenda's or politics in my living room on Sundays and now that it is cute to show the nation that the NFL is a resource to push agenda's down out throats, it's time to turn it off. We can throw the statistics of who is unfairly incarcerated based on population out the window, it has no bearing on what should be transpiring on the field. These men of all colors that take the field are the beneficiaries of capitalism and should check themselves everyday that they are privileged to live in this great country. If not for Old Glory and the patriots that choose to defend her, there would be no NFL and we would all be serfs of some sort so stop the nonsense and be grateful to those who have given us the opportunities we have. We are not a perfect nation but not standing for our colors and song projects an ungrateful image. I hope these players realize that making this a media circus will not help their cause but only create further division in a country that's already divided. Never did I think that fans gathering in a stadium were nothing but united until now. So now what to do with my Sunday afternoons? PRAY!
GREAT POST!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!
I meant to each other. Trump I'm all aboard your train. It's disgraceful.

I can't get that point across either. It's not a line that can be moved to fit ones fancy
BTW I gave you about 50 of your agrees. Wouid you like me to remove them? It would make you look even more notorious. If it wasn't for for you and a few others here I would think I'm losing my mind. Keep up the good work.

That's the spirit. I haven't been pleased with anyone since Reagan and he was senile his second term. The current one is the worst leader I've ever seen including my tee ball coach who drank from a flask while coaching third base
I think you or Perk wouid do a better job

Baseball it doesn't bother me that people make idiots out of themselves thinking they are making a difference by taking a knee at a football game. Some people it might and it should not be allowed because it might offend.
