Most of the national sponsors are siding with the players or are staying neutral. There is an up to minute list that is available. A local car dealership suspended Von Millers deal. I'm sure he will be ok.

....and how fast will the same advertisers demand make goods as the ratings drop into the toilet?
This is going to be a much more entertaining NFL season than one could have anticipated.
Under Armour was the first official sponsor to issue any kind of statement in response to Trump’s comments Friday night. On Saturday morning, Under Armour sent out a tweet that carefully avoided taking a side.
The company said it “stands for the flag and by our Athletes for free speech, expression and a unified America.” It appears to voice support both for the anthem and for the players protesting during the anthem.
.@UnderArmour stands for the flag and by our Athletes for free speech, expression and a unified America.
Ford, also an NFL sponsor, said on Monday, “We respect individuals’ rights to express their views, even if they are not ones we share.”
Like Under Armour’s statement, it avoids fully siding with the president or the player protests. But the latter part of the statement (“even if they are not ones we share”) arguably implies Ford does not share the view of the player protests.
Nike
On Monday morning, Nike became the third NFL sponsor to issue a statement, and arguably the first to take a clear position: it sided with the players.
In a statement sent to the media, Nike said: “Nike supports athletes and their right to freedom of expression on issues that are of great importance to our society.”
Hyundai
Hyundai issued a statement on Monday afternoon that, like Nike, clearly sides with the players’ right to protest.
The statement says, “We stand for and respect individuals’ freedoms to express their first amendment rights in any peaceful manner in which they choose. We also stand for inclusion, freedom and all that represents those values.”
Anheuser-Busch InBev
On Monday night, a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch InBev sent Yahoo Finance this statement, which appears to fall into the play-it-safe, neutral category along with Under Armour and Ford:
“At Anheuser-Busch we have a long heritage of supporting the institutions and values that have made America so strong. That includes our armed forces and the national anthem as well as diversity, equality and freedom of speech. We proudly employ over 1,100 military veterans and we work every day to create an inclusive environment for all of our employees. Because only together can we achieve our dream of bringing people together for a better world.”
Bose
Bose sent out this statement on Monday night:
“Bose was founded in the United States, and our world headquarters is in Massachusetts, where it’s been for over 50 years. It’s now surrounded by several other Bose facilities – and at all of them, at all times, we proudly fly the American flag. It’s a symbol of our great country which protects the freedom for every person to express their views. We respect that freedom, whether we agree with those views or not.”
Like Ford’s statement, it plays to both sides, but arguably ends up siding more against the protests, with the “whether we agree with those views or not” clause.
No comment: Barclaycard
Some brands have responded to our request for a statement by declining comment, which is different from not responding at all.

I'm sure the advertisers won't mind cheaper rates. Not my problem. The NFL took in 13 billion in revenue in 2016. They are on track to take in 14 billion in 2017. If it drops a few billion no one will have to throw them a charity ball.
I just hope they make it through the season as I'm 3-0 in my family trash talking fantasy football league. That is important to me

Your biased generalization of his teammates as thugs is part of the problem.
The truth is that the vast majority of players in the NFL are hardworking, achievement oriented men who go about their business, give back to their communities through volunteer efforts and go home to their families at the end of the day. This, despite the fact that many players are very young men in their early to mid 20s, which is an age at which many individuals do some wild and crazy things before settling down. Of course you only hear about the tiny percentage who are troublemakers because let's face it, those are the stories on which the media loves to focus.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
While your question about women and the justice system may be a valid question, what does that have to do with this thread? It has nothing to do with why the players are protesting. We could ask questions ad nauseum about the justice system.
It was brought up earlier in the thread, hence my comment.
I admit I've been lightheaded the last couple of days but can you reference what you are referring to. Apart from DIMEMAN's comments about women serving in the military, I don't recall any talk of women and their crimes, prosecutions or sentences.
It was in response to these questions from baseball:
Or, why is that that African Americans get arrested almost four times as much as Caucasians f>or marijuana use when the statistics show that they use it at comparable rates?
Or, why is it that first time offenders get more severe sentences when they are not Caucasian?
The implication is that the "system" is racist based on those questions/stats. Yet no one ever asks the same question(s) when it comes to sexism and the "system".
Tabe not directed at you. This just seemed like a good spot
I'm lucky I was born a white man in America. We have a head start the day we leave the womb. Of course we can always F it up. We were born with such an advantage over white woman, black men or god forbide a black woman. Of course these groups can overcome our head start. But to say otherwise would be delusional. Until you have walked in the shoes of a black man or black woman in America please don't pretend to know what they think or what makes them tick. Their experience of America is different then ours in a lot of cases.
Any women or black men participating in this thread please feel free to chime in.

That’s about as disgusting a statement as I’ve ever read on these boards. It is this kind of sentiment that exemplifies the ugly and racist tone in this country, a tone that is much more prevelant in this country since this past election season, and it is a prime example of why I have become so outspoken in support of people of color and other that are likewise marginalized.
You, “sir” make me queasy in my gastrointestinal region. I fart in your very specific direction.
Mark, I suspect your call for women or black men to chime in won’t be heeded, although it would be fantastic if it was. We’ve all been to card shows - the demographic is overwhelmingly white and male. I’m working on a little something, though. Hopefully I can report in within the next couple of days.

How do you translate thuggery to racism? NFL is littered with thugs that have made the police blotter.
Rae Carruth was a murderer. Ray Lewis by the grace of a good team of shysters avoided a murder conviction. Michael Vick killed dogs. Adrian Petersen beat his 4 year old kid unmercifully.
Ben Roethlisberger was charged with sexual assault. Aaron Hernandez was a convicted murderer, Ray Rice and Greg Hardy physically abused women as did Ezekiel Elliot.

Please. The topic at hand is kneeling/sitting for the Anthem. The kneeling and sitting, until Sunday, was done exclusively by black athletes. The league is 70% black.
You're fooling nobody - it's more than obvious what point you were making.

C’mon, Paul, you’re better than this. Do a little research. That meme has been thoroughly debunked as false. One should never pull a meme from a Trump Twitter feed and repost without verifying its authenticity and agenda - that goes for both sides of the aisle, btw.
Ok so the research I've quickly done makes it grossly wrong about Blacks killing Whites, that's fine but can we dispute that Black on Black killings are the biggest numbers? If that's society's fault then I'm at a loss on how anyone can change that. Chicago is one of the most violent cities in America by homicides I believe and it's again mostly Black on Black. My point being is Whites are not killing Blacks at an alarming rate, Blacks are killing Blacks mostly.

My point being is Whites are not killing Blacks at an alarming rate, Blacks are killing Blacks mostly.
Paul, that's the 1 gazillion dollar question, isn't it. One can't point to any one thing that accounts for black-on-black crime, at least I cannot. Society, humanity even, is in many ways completely broken. Ask anyone, and they'll all have a "fix this, and things will get better". Discipline your kids, take responsibility for your actions, more cops, less cops, more aid to the poor, less aid to the poor, and on and on and on and on.
I honestly have no clue where to start - the problems we are pretty damn overwhelming, to be quite honest. I guess I would start by suggesting that we have actual face-to-face dialogue with people we disagree with, with lots of listening and little talking while listening. Then ask questions, and further discuss. That's kinda taking place here, but it's difficult when minds are made up and the other view is automatically discounted. I'm guilty of that from time to time - can't help my damn self sometimes.
Whatever happens, it's going to be an uphill climb. Unfortunately, we've become so polarized that there's little room for concession - nobody seems to want to give an inch to the "other side". And we get angrier and angrier and hostile to that other side. I actually fear that this country is going to devolve into armed conflict, which would be just terrible.

The truest thing you've said yet. I would add that there are serious creeps everywhere people gather. I guaran-damn-tee you there are serious creeps posting somewhere on CU right now. There are serious creeps in every church organization, and every hospital, and in the stands at every sporting event, and, and, and... you get the idea.
Regarding sexual assault - we all know there are FAR more sexual assaults committed by athletes than those that show up in the news, and we all know the reasons why we never hear about them. That's beyond tragic.

Tougher than serving his country during multiple tours? Get a grip, marc.
I didn't say that. You just did. I saw his presser and I'm a huge fan of his. Much respect. He was put a tough spot. The Steelers over thought this trying to take the high road. That's the shame of it. They will be back on the field for next weeks anthem. Thank goodness

How was he put in a tough spot? The man was willing to take a bullet for his country. He is worried about hurting the feelings of a bunch of roided brats?
I guess because he felt guilt afterwards and wished he would have stayed with his team mates. It should have never came to that. It was a dumb plan and hence tough spot. He shouldn't have had to choose

Any plan devised by mike tomlin is bound to be a disaster. Maybe the dumbest coach in the NFL ( except about 20 others )
I would take Mike Tomlin as the Rams coach righteffingnow. I've always admired his passion and fire, and the results speak for themselves. His teams win rings, are always competitive, and for the most part are always disciplined.
Did you see him trip that player a few years ago? It was a pick 6 or something and Tomlin walked onto the field and tripped the player in full view of the entire world. Dumber than a sack of doorknobs.
Did you see the playoff game against the patriots ? We don't make adjustments , we do what we do . How's that working out for them
Did you watch the steelers vs cowboys game last year? The steelers had the game won but lost because of Tomlins stupid play calling at the end of the game. The guy is a horrible coach. As a steelers fan, I've been wanting him to be fired since 2013.
IT CAN'T BE A TRUE PLAYOFF UNLESS THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONS ARE INCLUDED
So a short time ago I learned why Colin Kaepernick started kneeling. I knew he started out silently sitting, but soon began kneeling. I somehow missed why he changed - I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention, or it's possible I heard about it but then promptly forgot all about it.
I think it's very interesting how that came along. If it causes just one person here to look at the kneeling thing a little differently, or at the very least gives at least one person something to think about, that's a good thing imo.
Warning: this is a long read, but I think this is important to read all the way through - it proves how things can change with open, honest dialogue. It's certainly germane to our discussion here and how we can dialogue with each other.
The "why" has much to do with ex-Green Beret and former NFL long snapper Nate Boyer. Here is Boyer's open letter to Kaepernick, published in The Army Times in late August 2016:
Colin,
I'm a big fan. I've been pulling for you ever since I first saw you play in the 2012 preseason. I was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and have been a die-hard 49ers fan as long as I can remember – growing up, I was Joe Montana for Halloween two years straight.
I proudly wore the red and gold for an afternoon when I had a tryout with the 49ers last spring. I ultimately ended up in training camp with the Seattle Seahawks, but I'll never forget the one day I got to be a 49er.
I don't know a lot, but I do know that I catch a lot of flak for expressing my opinions, something you are now very familiar with. I also know you support the military – "God Bless Our Troops" is written on the football that you and former 49er teammate Colt McCoy signed for one of the charities I work with. The football's currently sitting in my parents' house; my dad bid the highest at the charity's auction.

Unfortunately, I also know that racism still exists in our country, as it does in every other country on this planet, and I hate that I know that. I hate the third verse of our national anthem, but thankfully we don’t sing that verse anymore. I hate that at times I feel guilty for being white.
In 2004, I witnessed genocide firsthand in the Darfur region of Sudan. The fact that hate and oppression still exist at that level in our world really hurts me. I met countless young Africans who were enamored with America and the opportunities that exist here. Those people would have given anything to experience what I had grown up with, even just for one day.
I joined the Army upon returning to the U.S. because I believed people like that were worth fighting for. De Oppresso Liber ("To Free the Oppressed") is the Army Special Forces motto, and the reason I wanted to become a Green Beret. I didn't enlist to fight for what we already have here; I did it because I wanted to fight for what those people didn't have there: Freedom.
I am in no way political, but I'm proud that we have an African-American president, and that I got to serve under him. Overcoming racism at home is a slow process, and we still have a long way to go, but most of us are trying. That's what sets us apart from so many other places. In this country, no matter who you are, where you come from, what color you are, you can try.
During college football games, both teams usually wait in the locker room until after the national anthem. That always bothered me. Leading the team out of the tunnel while carrying the American flag meant a lot, but I still regretted not being out there to stand for that song.
The only time I got to stand on the sideline for the anthem was during my one and only NFL preseason game, against the Denver Broncos. As I ran out of the tunnel with the American flag I could feel myself swelling with pride, and as I stood on the sideline with my hand on my heart as the anthem began, that swelling burst into tears.
I thought about how far I’d come and the men I’d fought alongside who didn’t make it back. I thought about those overseas who were risking their lives at that very moment. I selfishly thought about what I had sacrificed to get to where I was, and while I knew I had little to no chance of making the Seahawks’ roster as a 34-year-old rookie, I was trying.
That moment meant so much more to me than even playing in the game did, and to be honest, if I had noticed my teammate sitting on the bench, it would have really hurt me.

I’m not judging you for standing up for what you believe in. It’s your inalienable right. What you are doing takes a lot of courage, and I’d be lying if I said I knew what it was like to walk around in your shoes. I’ve never had to deal with prejudice because of the color of my skin, and for me to say I can relate to what you’ve gone through is as ignorant as someone who’s never been in a combat zone telling me they understand what it’s like to go to war.
Even though my initial reaction to your protest was one of anger, I’m trying to listen to what you’re saying and why you’re doing it. When I told my mom about this article, she cautioned me that "the last thing our country needed right now was more hate." As usual, she’s right.
There are already plenty people fighting fire with fire, and it’s just not helping anyone or anything. So I’m just going to keep listening, with an open mind.
I look forward to the day you're inspired to once again stand during our national anthem. I'll be standing right there next to you. Keep on trying … De Oppresso Liber.
The story picks up almost a month later, as told on cbssports.com
In the 49ers' final preseason game, backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to kneel for the national anthem instead of taking a seat on the bench.
Turns out it was former Seahawks player and Green Beret Nate Boyer who talked Kap into making the change. Boyer wrote an open letter to Kaepernick earlier this season, and it caused the two to meet up and discuss America and honoring the anthem.
On the upcoming episode of HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel" (airing Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET), Boyer reveals what happened in the discussion between the two men.
"We sorta came to a middle ground where he would take a knee alongside his teammates," Boyer says. "Soldiers take a knee in front of a fallen brother's grave, you know, to show respect. When we're on a patrol, you know, and we go into a security halt, we take a knee, and we pull security."
Asked by Gumbel if Kap was "receptive" to his ideas, Boyer described him as "very receptive."
"Very receptive. He said, 'I think that would be-- I think-- I think that would be really powerful,'" Boyer recalls. "And, you know, he asked me to do it with him. And I said, 'Look, I'll stand next to you. I gotta stand though. I gotta stand with my hand on my heart. That's just-- that's just what I do and where I'm from.'"
The two met and took a picture together, but Boyer wasn't willing to take a knee.
Boyer also got called many names for his decision to stand next to Kaepernick during the anthem.
"I got called a lotta things from both sides. I was told I was a disgrace to the green beret by a couple Green Berets, one of 'em I was friends with," Boyer says. "And that hurts, you know? It really does. But then I also had a lot of people in the military and people in special forces that said, 'Man, I hadn't really thought about that before. And I think you're onto something.'"
There are always going to be people who don't appreciate what Kap is doing, and there are always going to be people who don't appreciate Boyer reaching out to him.
But the bottom line is that discussion, in a positive and peaceful fashion, is always better than screaming angrily about a subject matter.
Boyer and Kap might not see eye to eye, but bridging the gap by even speaking about the issues is a pretty good start.
eta: I meant to include this ESPN interview with Boyer on yesterday's SportsCenter. It's worth a listen, if for nothing else than the fact that it's given by a former Green Beret, an organization I hope we all look on with awe and pride.
That's a very poignant and compelling piece, Geordie. Thanks for posting/sharing it here.

As for the higher rate of murders in minority communities, I think its obviously due to their economic position in life. They are poor. And that leads to a whole host of negative issues that often manifest in crimes being committed. The "answer" is clearly to increase the number of jobs and well paying jobs for the underprivileged. However, how that gets done is certainly no insignificant task and above my pay grade to address.
Or is the "answer" to police the poor more because as you have stated they commit more crimes therefore more in prison and being shot by police?
Pardon me...make it Bo and Luke Duke, we know the law wanted them. Or Smokey and the Bandit....and still
On a serious note Poor and white is not that good either.

Again what about the masses that destroyed Baltimore and caused millions of dolllars of damage in other cities? Why are they using vandalism to express themselves? Why are they fighting with police officers on the streets when they have no control over sentencing guidkines? Why not post peaceful protests outside federal and state courthouses and government buildings?

I would have to research the sentences handed out to minority's in comparison to whites to understand if that is actually true or not. In the meantime I stand by my thoughts that sitting for the flag is wrong and most of the time regardless of race people that have guns drawn on them by law enforcement and or are serving prison time do it to themselves and put themselves in that situation to begin with. If anyone wants to insinuate that I'm racists for my beliefs then so be it, I honestly don't care.
And furthermore events like Baltimore only add to the notion that violent protesters are giving minority's a major set back in their pursuit of getting their message across. Baseball won't agree with anything I say because he continues to be obtuse to open minded conversations about this whole topic.

This is going to be a much more entertaining NFL season than one could have anticipated.
A list of NFL sponsors response to Trumps Crusade
Under Armour
Under Armour was the first official sponsor to issue any kind of statement in response to Trump’s comments Friday night. On Saturday morning, Under Armour sent out a tweet that carefully avoided taking a side.
The company said it “stands for the flag and by our Athletes for free speech, expression and a unified America.” It appears to voice support both for the anthem and for the players protesting during the anthem.
.@UnderArmour stands for the flag and by our Athletes for free speech, expression and a unified America.
— Under Armour News (@UAnews) September 23, 2017
Ford

I didn't know who would first be called a racist, but I knew it would be @baseball who would do the calling. I think this means @perkdog officially wins the thread.

Baseball, I'm not trying to cling on to anything, your in the minority with this flag thing and all this media fueled social injustice problem that literally happened over night. Where are all those people that destroyed Baltimore right now? Are they planning their next looting of a city or a peaceful protest?
He is certainly in the minority here but not nationwide.

The story picks up almost a month later, as told on cbssports.com
eta: I meant to include this ESPN interview with Boyer on yesterday's SportsCenter. It's worth a listen, if for nothing else than the fact that it's given by a former Green Beret, an organization I hope we all look on with awe and pride.

That's a very poignant and compelling piece, Geordie. Thanks for posting/sharing it here.

Or is the "answer" to police the poor more because as you have stated they commit more crimes therefore more in prison and being shot by police?
It isn't race.
It's called Poverty.
Joe Dirt would have the same problems.
Yep I said Joe Dirt
Pardon me...make it Bo and Luke Duke, we know the law wanted them. Or Smokey and the Bandit....and still
On a serious note Poor and white is not that good either.
No money, power or connections to help you.
Keep talking about Race but Poverty and or the Class system is what it's about.
LOL. No, you just said he had "racist tendencies". So, perkdog isn't a racist, he just tends to be a racist. If you didn't mean to call him a racist then you owe him one hell of a sincere apology. But since you did mean to call him a racist, I think you owe him one hell of an insincere apology. Or are you saving that for after you've compared someone to Hitler?

Thank goodness this is not true. Getting less true by the day. This is where Trump gave his "NFL speech"

Also NFL ratings were up 3% in week three over last year same time period.
