<< <i>Shipped 7/1, Expected Delivery 7/8? FedEx Smart Ship? Is that the same as Pony Express? >>
Yes! As a matter of fact, it is!
A pony express rider could ride 75 miles/day. That means it would take 8.3 days to get to me. FedEx slowpost sez it will take 9 days, arriving on the 10th.
So yes, it *is* as speedy as the Pony Express. FedEx can handle a higher volume, though...
<< <i>Was checking my tracking number and can't believe how horrible FedEx Smartpost is. I had my order ship yesterday and the tracking is showing that I should get the package on Saturday, July 11!!! Don't understand how they can be so much slower than the USPS.
My sister in Hawaii had her order ship yesterday as well and it is being sent to her via USPS Priority Mail and it will be there Monday, July 6. And that includes a postal holiday this weekend for July 4.
Pretty crazy!!! Is it really that much of a cost savings to use FedEx Smartpost? Cost doesn't seem to matter to the US Mint anyways as they seemingly shipped my sister's order of 5 sets in 5 separate Priority Mail boxes, instead of just sending them in one box. At least that how it looks to her as they gave her 5 different tracking numbers Pretty good deal for her for only $4.95 shipping
Oh well... excited to be getting the coins at all I guess >>
Can you believe this ??? FedEX ships to Chicago .. then ships Mint package to New Berlin ,Wisconsin a 100 miles.. then Postal Service ships back to Chicago .. then to local P.O for delivery.. all for $4.95 >>
Imagine what they could do for another fitty cents?

What you're telling me is that FedEx must have subcontracted the USPS for this job?
(Which is somewhat ironic, because the USPS probably handed it over to UPS for delivery.)
Didn't derryb have a package take about 3 U-turns in & out of St. Louis a few weeks ago? Things are getting kinda froggy with the delivery system.

But still, it would be nice to find something wrong with one. The Philly Mint has a pretty bad track record on these prezzie dollars and having errors. Kris
Any body who has received one yet. Are the individual sets shrink wrapped? I remember my 2012 coin & currency sets were shrink wrap sealed from the mint

You need to check each day around 7-8 AM. It will come up again probably. This is the period when the mint seems to put their extra product up for sale.
I saw on the coin community message board that someone found one in their order with about a half inch die crack on it. I can't wait til these are in hand. I love looking for errors on new coins. I'll see if I can get a picture out of them to share here when they post one. Happy hunting, Kris.

You don't know smartpost? UPS has a version of it too, called "Mail Innovations". (Innovations is a latin word for slow. (No it isn't...))
Here's how it works for me. Memphis to Chicago.
They put the package on a FedEx truck in Memphis (because that's where PFSWeb's Mint facility is) and travels to Mississippi. (To be fair, Southaven is almost a suburb of Memphis, and must be where the FedEx distribution center is.)
It is then put on another FedEx truck, and taken to Earth City, a suburb of St. Louis. 280 miles North on I-55. No problem so far, right? Another 300 miles on I-55, and the package is in Chicago.
However, the package is then put on another FedEx truck, and taken to a suburb outside of MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN. THEN THE PACKAGE IS HANDED OFF TO THE USPS FOR FINAL DELIVERY FROM MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN! (Sorry for yelling, but this just seems too dumb for words.)
Four days later, the USPS delivers the package. Now, Chicago has both a large FedEx and USPS hubs. Instead of taking just two or three or four days, it takes 8 or 9, and an extra 220 miles. There must be something "smart" about it, but I'm at a loss...
Now, Chicago is only 540 miles from Memphis. Think about what it's like for those West of the Rockies...

Nine days. Shipped on the 2nd, due to be delivered on the 11th. DumbPost is the stupidest thing the mint has ever done regarding delivery. I can't imagine the savings are that great. The extra miles and extra handling don't come free.
The announced limits for the upcoming Eisenhower and Johnson sets are 17,000 each, same as the Truman. Announced limit for Kennedy is 20,000 sets. I wonder if these limits will be raised in light of the Truman sellout. If not, Kennedy will likely be the key in spite of its slightly higher mintage.
This was the same auction I posted a few days ago that was at $93 with 3 days to go I think. Its not just the RP it is the entire set with a graded RP.

Pretty much same here. I hope the turtle that it's being shipped on doesn't get rolled over on the road!

Kennedy mintage limit is actually 25,000 rather than 20,000.

also for about 15 minutes on Tuesday morning. I got my order in then and they are shipped and on the way.
I should have them tomorrow or Wednesday.
Did anyone here order just the 5 and, if so, how were they shipped? Did they upgrade the $297.40 order or send it FedEx "Smart"post?
