<< They were on sale this morning again briefly, about a 5 minute window. >>

    what time?

I bought three more with my mom's account at 7:50 AM. I put 5 in the bag but was only able to buy 3 sets. That might have been all they had.

I got lucky because I checked a few minutes before and it was unavailable and checked again about 3 minutes later and the bag button was there.

    Good for you.

I take it we're talking 7:50 EST, not PST?

They were available this morning (Saturday) from at least 0720 (when I checked) until 0835

They must be getting a lot of rejected credit cards.

At this point it is more likely they are returns and not cc issues. Don't know why anybody would cancel now.

last night HSN sold 849 of their 69's in about twenty minutes. Said they did not get any 70's.

Claimed they tried to buy 5000 on 6/30. that means they had 1000 people trying to buy online.

he also said that between him and two other people he knows they bought 1/3 of the sets minted.image

...and the TPG that graded them...

Edited to add: by the numbers being thrown around by HSN, MCM and others quite a bunch have already been accounted for....these look like they will dry up VERY soon.....

...and... I find it VERY hard to accept that HSN submitted almost a thousand coins and got zip 70's.....that is probably a sales ploy to imply that 69 is the best you can get so "get 'em NOW!"...there are 70's out there

One of the $ 25,000 PCGS70's on ebay sold for best offer. Is there still a way to find
out what the best offer was ?
  • BigABigA Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭✭
It's not showing as a sold item...it does say one sold one remaining but I can't see the best offer in my usual tool.....probably won't until the 2nd one sells....

Here is the video of HSN selling this set, for anyone interested.
  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 35,847 ✭✭✭✭✭
    I have my sets.

After a quick glance at the one side face up, I have at least 2 clear dogs.

Should I turn a couple over and find the reverse matches the obverse, I have a couple of clear 70s.

The rest, well, I've graded moderns and these are reverse proofs, and the rest seem within the "as struck realm" of 70. (one side only)

I know I was considering offering a couple of you a set at costs (plural) since you didn't get in on the order, but I am torn. I don't want to offer you the clear dogs, but if I want a shot at a 70, I also feel like I need to submit the max number I can that have a shot.

I need to go out in a few minutes. I will keep you posted on the set inspection progress later.

One this is certain, I'd rather not offer a set at costs if anyone is going to buy a 5 box to submit. If someone is going to go for the grade, then the mercy single set at costs seems unnecessary with multi-sets being bought for grading.

If that's the case, they spent $0.6 million if they paid $550 per box. (17000 orders $550 per 5 coin order divided by 3)

I did not see any this morning for sale at the mint. Eisenhower will be the next one up and with the same mintage.
  • HATTRICKHATTRICK Posts: 2,223 ✭✭✭✭✭
They were up this morning around 7:30 AM as my daughter got an order in for 4. She put 5 in bag but
had to reduce to 4 buy time she could check out. They go fast. CoinFames PCGS69 auctions ending
Sunday night did not do as well as the Saturday ones. Sat averaged near $ 200 while the Sundayones
averaged near $ 150 They were for the RP Truman only and one closed at only $ 127.50.
The graded sets with OPG are doing much better. The PCGS PR70 Truman coin only is up to $ 1,025

Its just luck to hit the refresh button on the mint web site when the bag button appears. I was checking from 7-8 AM Monday morning also.

I am just wondering if they are in your bag, can someone else still buy them if you are not fast enough to finalize the sale.

Did not take them long to ding my credit card on this one. Probably ship tomorrow or the next day along with my one silver proof eagle to get the real shipping.

They dinged my cc on Friday when I purchased 3, but they have not shipped yet.

Sealed boxes of 5 are selling at $800.

First day I had them in my bag but had issues checking out. By time I figured
it out someone had snatched mine out of my bag. So yes. Also see my post above.

My daughter had five in the bag, but by time she could finish checking out the quanity
available had dropped to four. Lucky she got the four.

Mine ordered Sat says shipped this morning. Should be here by Thurs.

My 3 sets shipped too today.
  • Does anyone know of any legit errors out there yet on these? I opened a box of 5 and found one that looks like it has a strike thru what seems to be a piece of wire in the letter U in his name on the Obverse. Kris

There doesn't seem to be a RP in this set.

If there is no reverse proof in the Eisenhower set what is that going to do to the value of the Truman reverse proof?

    According to Mint News Blog:

"The United States Mint has provided further information on the 2015 Coin and Chronicle Sets to be issued for Presidents Harry Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson. In a surprising development, each set will contain a reverse proof version of the corresponding Presidential Dollar."
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
How many of the 2014 sets did they make?

Are the 2015 more popular than the earlier ones because most of us remember those presidents or is it just the reverse proof that is the big deal ?

With the Mint doing 4 reverse proofs, they are making a sub-set within the Pres. dollar set.
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Yes and a very expensive one too with the short mintage.

These coins will rise in price making todays price seem reasonable.

I sold my first 5 too early but have no intention to give this 5 away cheaply.

It's just the reverse proof that is the big deal. A mintage of 17,000 for a variant proof within a (sort of) currently circulating series is an invitation to a feeding frenzy.

If the coin had been a regular proof or business strike it would have gone almost unnoticed.

That was my feeling too and I will be locked and loaded for the Eisenhower for sure.

It may sell out in 10 minutes this time.
