I have all the coin and chronicles (going back to the John Marshall), so at least two of my Truman sets will remain intact for my C&C set collection. The other three? We'll see when I can inspect the coins.

Does it really make a difference if all 4000+ orders were shipped on the same day?
In this case, FIFO=LIFO.
Now, the question is, can FedEx pick up all 4000+ orders at one time?
Just got an email from the Mint stating my 5 sets have shipped.

Well, it does matter. They swear to FIFO and yet we know it isn't the case. Less effect when all go out the same day, true. Take the Jackie gold response about unanticipated demand (poor planning) while not addressing (avoidance/deflection?) the real question of how dealers got every available coin in the first second of availability. Dishonest at best, total lies at the most cynical. Either way a lot of good will and trust has eroded.
if one is faster than another, there you go. I'm guessing sell-out anyway and these will all go out in plenty of time for anything. Certainly the early bird gets the worm for the stupid money on ebay. This is no Jackie Kennedy proof gold fiasco.

To answer your comment if I had placed an order it would have been for one set for my collection. I am not a flipper.
I admire Truman, and in one sense I'm sorry I am not getting one, but I have already turned down a kind offer from a board member. I am just not that motivated to buy it. I have a 1949 Truman inaugural medal plus some nice 1948 Truman campaign buttons so I don't feel compelled to chase after this.
And no, generally I am not a fan of reverse Proofs. They are a gimmick, and this thing is just the mint's effort to revive a dead series. The Proof presidential dollars as a series is pretty much dead on arrival.
Finally I still think it is a shame that collectors who did not have access during the 15 minute opportunity window now have to pay through the nose to get a set.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Bill. I hear you ... But collectors do not have to "pay through the nose" today to get a set ... they have the option of waiting - right?
Unlike the Silver Kennedy RP or the March of Dimes RP (unique denominational coin finishes), the Pres $1 RP coins, while unique to each President, provide collectors a multitude of choices to capture a type $1 Pres coin with RP. For example, collectors might be 100% satisfied with the Kennedy coin to fill their type slot and not give Truman another passing thought. And, we both know the tiny group of collectors out there today that actually collect all of the Pres $1 coins as compared to silver Kennedy coins or Roosie dimes. If collectors could care less about precious metal unique type coins with mintages under 10,000 (that often sell for melt), who is to say that these Truman coins will perform all that well from here a year out?
Just my two cents.

I believe that J.R. Sinnock was able to model Truman from an in-person meeting - I'm pretty sure, but maybe not. I truly enjoy his work. If you like the Silver Truman medal when you get it in-hand, I suggest that you buy a 3 inch 1st term bronze Truman mint medal, or a second-term one from the late 80s.
Was checking my tracking number and can't believe how horrible FedEx Smartpost is. I had my order ship yesterday and the tracking is showing that I should get the package on Saturday, July 11!!! Don't understand how they can be so much slower than the USPS.
My sister in Hawaii had her order ship yesterday as well and it is being sent to her via USPS Priority Mail and it will be there Monday, July 6. And that includes a postal holiday this weekend for July 4.
Pretty crazy!!! Is it really that much of a cost savings to use FedEx Smartpost? Cost doesn't seem to matter to the US Mint anyways as they seemingly shipped my sister's order of 5 sets in 5 separate Priority Mail boxes, instead of just sending them in one box. At least that how it looks to her as they gave her 5 different tracking numbers Pretty good deal for her for only $4.95 shipping
Oh well... excited to be getting the coins at all I guess

Harry S. Truman's surprise victory in the 1948 presidential election prompted more than a million people to attend his inauguration in on January 20, 1949. Part of this intense interest may have been due to the subdued war time ceremony that marked Franklin Roosevelt's fourth inaugural in 1945. Perhaps the people to looking to have a post war celebration. The parade was seven and a half miles long and was accompanied by the fly over of 700 aircraft past the reviewing stand.
For the first time the bronze inaugural medals were made in a large quantity and offered to the crowd at $2.00 each in bronze. Artist C. Paul Jennewein sculpted the obverse which was modeled from life. Jennewein added the phrase F Ad Vivum, "made from life" beside his signature below Truman's bust. Forty-eight stars surround the bust. Thirteen of them are larger than the others.
The reverse reflected design suggestions from Mint Director, Nellie Tayloe Ross. It features a figure of Lady Liberty, wearing a Phrygian cap, indicative of freedom. To her left are figures representing humanity who are yearning to be free. Lady Liberty holds a laurel spray in her left hand indicating that liberty has been victorious.
The three gold medals were given to Harry S. Truman, Nellie Tayloe Ross and Melvin D. Hildreth who was the chairman of inaugural committee. The Truman piece is in his library. The other two pieces are presumably still held by the families of Mrs. Ross and Mr. Hildreth.
The Philadelphia Mint struck the bronze medals. The finish that the mint gave these pieces has not always been stable, and many pieces have acquired unattractive spots and tarnish. Pieces with attractive surfaces are worth a premium.
