Fast shipment by the mint could spell the demise (or at least decrease the submissions) for First Strike labels. Wouldn't that be a shame? image

While these sets do not fall under the mint's weekly repricing based on spot it will be interesting if demand for the already minted sets falls to the point where the mint is compelled to lower the price to reflect silver's recent demise.

<< <i>I am sick of complaining to the mint.

They do just as they please and to hell with their captive audience.

I will buy from ebay all the 70's I want and not deal with all the junk that the mint sends out.

You might say I have learned my lesson.

They have killed the flipping for now and think they have solved their problems with the ordering so now can unload all their junk by clipping the suckers by making returns hard to get.

    Good luck guys! >>

    Ah. My mistake. Apologies. >>

No prob. If you take them out of the Mint's shipping box (which is 10" X 7" X 6.5") and weighs 6lbs, you may be able to shimmy them in a Medium Flat Rate box. I know you can more than likely get them in a Large Flat Rate Box and save about $3.50.

$21.61- Cost of Priority Mail using 6 lbs and package dmentions.
$8.00- $450 Insurance ($50 insurance free for using priority mail)

I think the Large Flat Rate boxes cost $17.90 to ship plus other services. >>

The enhanced coins in my 3 sets have all diagonal lines on JFK's face.

Do I have to pay shipping to return them to the US Mint?

Maybe they will just change it to the first week of shipments. PCGS will not be denied that big source of revenue.

Yes & no.... Pay for the return shipping and save your receipts. When the replacement coins show up call the mint and tell them you want a refund of the postage. Fax in the receipts and you'll get one of those nice checks in the mail... the type you used to get when receiving your tax refund back in the old days.

Kennedy 4 coin Set out only a week and this thread has already starting to become quiet...Little flipping for this set .. unless for the 70s

Mint's fast shipping may the death knell for flippers ,after all these years

Made a lot of money over the years with coin flipping really starting with the 06 anniversary set and ended with the gold HOF set this year.

It has been a fun ride and am sorry to see it end but these Kennedy coins, which i stayed away from, have proven that the end to flipping has arrived.

There may be occasional things come up in the future, hopefully, and I will be watching.

I received my 2 sets Friday. I was very happy with how quickly they shipped.

If they would have shipped my gold Kennedy as quickly I would have kept it instead of cancelling it.

Received my 5 sets a short time ago and they are of extremely low quality with marks, spots and scratches on 14 of the 20 coins. They will make a return trip to the Mint.

I guess they moved the QC people into packaging and shipping.....crap quality but we get 'em fastimage

Is it true that you don't have to send these in in sealed boxes for the special designation? I'm assuming none of these coins have been released separately....

CS said you only have to send the coins in the mint capsules or the coins in flips.

Also she confirmed that no FS cut off date has been set yet.

I called twice and 2 diff reps told me no OGP on these.

I bet they regret requiring them for the clad because they were hard to remove. (I removed one set, then realized I needed to check. found out vthey needed to go back in the ogp image )

(anyone with a couple clad OGP they can sell me for $10 ?)

I didn't get the insert back even though I asked for it to be returned

  • I sent 2 sets back to the mint today. Both regular proofs had milk spots on them. The 3 sets I kept probably has 7 or 8 "70's". The rest should be 69. The new enhanced finish seems to all have the diagonal lines. All mine have them and every picture and forum about these. I haven't heard of anyone having it line-free.

My set had a line free example.
It would be interesting to know if lines vs no lines effects the grade. I hope some one will report what grades they get with the lines.

I'm open to buying a (4) coin PCGS PR70 FS set if someone ends up wanting to sell one.

I really did not want to go through the Mint again based on the last experience on the Gold Kennedy's. What a debacle that was.

I've been keeping an eye out for them on EBAY and I have not seen a complete set yet. I thought for sure by now that EBAY would have them all over the place based on Large Quantity Dealers
sending them in ASAP since so many have been received already.

I guess not, at least not yet image

Have any of these coins been released separately that would disqualify them from a special designation or first strike if sent in opened?

no, but neither were the clad.

stevie could have told the difference between the clad set and clad from rolls and mint sets.

That's because they are likely doing bulk submissions which will take a bit longer, they're not going to pay up with express...

Just leave the capsules in those black rubbery things [they protect the coins/capsules during transit], but throw the rest away, tho the boxes are nice.

For the uber paranoid, discard the stuff you don't want somewhere else, lest your trash collector find out you're a coin collector.

I told hat trick in the gold thread that I didn't think the silver drug the others up.

Seeing these numbers - the silver absolutely did pull the both up, especially the clad. Wow

Which coin do you find to be of the lowset quality of the (4) coins?

I find to be the "S" Mint Enhanced Uncirculated to be the worst. There are alot of scrapes on the shield on my coins.

I found issues with the proofs, the enhanced (overall looked bad cloudy looking plus the stripe/brush mark as previously mentioned), and the MS. IIRC one of them had consistent scrapes along the second from the right vertical bar of the shield. I found the RP's to be generally better than the rest.

And it was comical as the proofs were looking real good but then what appeared to be a dent or crater looking spot. I told my buddy, well I've looked at the Obverse and so far it's a 35 (1/2 way to a 70)...

Opened one set. The uncirculated had a milk spot. So I opened my second set to replace the milk spotted one. Both enhanceds in the both sets had the brush like marks on the portrait, but no other marks. I think this is probably how the enhanced will look and it may be normal, unless other forum members do not see it at all.

Please report if you don't see the brush marks on the enhanced. Replaced the milk spot with the other from the other set to get a nice set and sent the milk spotted set back for a return.

Still have one sealed set which will be kept as is.

I am thinking I may buy a 70 set, but still worried about the milk spotting on these.

As a side note, the new shipping company messed up my order of all 2014 ( four) $1 Coin and Spouse Medal Sets. They replaced one set with another item. This is a first, since I have never had a problem with the old company.
  • bluelobsterbluelobster Posts: 1,221 ✭✭✭
I got two sets, probably lucky, but they all look good, including the lack of discernable "brush" marks on the enhanced, but it does appear the brush marks a quite common with that finish.

Here's an ebay NGC 2014-S Silver Enhanced Unc Kennedy Half NGC SP70 that clearly shows the lines, especially on mouse-over -

    Text

So, I dunno, maybe that's just the way it is? The lines do not bother NGC, it's a 70. Myself, I think the lines are a showstopper. I think Ricko posted somewhere that his coin was normal, without lines.
