I can't wait to see everyone's Surf City Purchases, I believe that most (if not all) coins will have that wow factor.

    Congrats. Gentlemen (& Ladies)!

Gail from Teaparty called this morning; I bit on a couple I needed. I'll still have a second tier set compared to the Big Dogs, but it makes me feel a little better that I'm still walking in their footsteps. As long as I can smell their rear ends I'm in the hunt.

Ok, Darrell. Finish posting your images. And, please leave them up for awhile so we can enjoy them. Also looking to see your newps,
although I know that Don had the True Views.

Ok, I'll get off the iPad and add my new Half ...

    Edit:

Well, now my Lap Top isn't allowing me access to both
PCGS and Photobucket. Back to square one. Again. Arrr !!

I'll have to go eat crow now. I thought you'd probably never get around to posting pictures. I am happily wrong. Thank you for sharing!

TBC - Nice '92-O, thanks for posting.

Craig - I think some Surf City coins will be nice, and some will leave us shaking our heads.

Jeff - You're killing me, congrats on the additions.

Darrell - Very glad you're sharing your collection with the rest of us.

A new purchase showed up in the mail this morning; a raw 1909 S 50C with an inverted mintmark:

Although nothing special, it's a nice example of the famous San Francisco screw-up. Although they're fairly common in G to VG condition, the coin is a bit tougher in upper grades. I think this one may clock in as an AU 50.

Awesome set, and your work is much appreciated. I am sure there was a TON of effort in this set, and it's nice to see the hard work. I am sure I will be looking at it many more times.

Jeff, I don't remember telling you to sit tight, but I do think its easy to overspend when these big collections suddenly become available, and I think if you're patient, some of the scraps are very worthy and come at good prices.

Darrell, Looking forward to viewing your coins on my computer tonight. Thanks for sharing!

I chose a few of Don's coins as well...

    92-O quarter 58+

    00-O quarter 58

    08 half 58

    11 half 58

On fence on 11-S quarter, which I sold to Don a few months ago. Nice coin but don't won't to buy it back for > sale price.

Also had privilege to view some others.

Special thanks to Gail and Liz. ??????

Jeff - Congrats on the newp, and it's in the new BCCS survey.

Darrell - Your virtual album looks great, I'm sure I will be spending time with it a little later.

Paesan - Look forward to seeing your Surf City newps in hand.

Agree the 99 half is perfect for the grade.

Also got my 11-S back at no extra charge. ??

Darrell, I think it's almost impossible to do a 58 set without overpaying for the last half dozen coins. My final Barber half set will feature many 45-53 range coins. I think I'll cap out at about 3K.

    Lenny,

There are a few coins I passed on several years ago that I thought were overpriced.I really kick myself in the derrier now for not buying them! It only takes less collectors than you can count one 1 hand to keep the tough ones pricey.

Along with FIVE (yes, 5) 58+ coins!

I'm planning my next vacation to Nebraska to visit the Brad Spelt Barber Half Shrine. I need to pray to the God of '97 O for forgivrness, redemption, and upgrade.

Until the coins are photographed and placed in an online album the set doesn't exist to me. Darryll, you're still on top in my book! The gauntlet has been thrown down for Brad to execute!!

Yes there are photos. Some seem a bit sketchy. It could be the photos, or the grade coins they used to photograph.

Well, the recent Gardner auction was interesting.

I ended up bidding for a friend - on his dime, of course.
    I was able to nail down a stellar Quarter - a 1907 - PCGS 66.
    ( lot : 98584 ).

I was looking at a few (back of the book stuff - Internet Only )
Nickels and Dimes. I was blown out of the water on all the V Nickels
and two of the three Dimes. I won an attractive 1895 Dime - PCGS 63 CAC
    ( lot: 99168 )

I am unable to post images until I get my lap top back from debugging
at Best Buy. So... If anyone would like to add my images - I would be grateful.

Mike - Congrats on the 1895 dime, which I see is a proof. I had an interest in the 1897-O qtr, formerly Eliasberg, but it went for more than twice what I thought it would bring. WOW!!!

I received my two coins from the former Surfcity collection a few days ago; '98 O and '00 O Halves. I tried to update my Registry set this morning to find out Don still has them in his set. I sent the e-mail asking them to be removed, but I'm a bit surprised he didn't already take them down. It's a little hard to forget a few coins when an entire set is sold. image

    Vern....

That's a really attractive 97-O Quarter. I was also tracking the Eliasberg example. However,
    $17.5K + the 17.5% juice ( $20,562.50 ) is a bit heavy ( to say the least )....granted, it was a
    really nice coin.
    ///////\\\///////\\\
Glad I bought the PC 65 when I did back in August at the ANA auction. Now, I think I ended up stealing the coin at $3100 all in.

  • MFHMFH Posts: 11,720 ✭✭✭✭

Yup, I think the new PR 63 - 1895 Dime will look really nice next to the MS 64 I have. I was a touch disappointed I didn't land a few of the Gardner Nickels - they went way past my comfort zone ... If I bought any of them, I'd be buried in with them. Sorry to say.

Wonder if the after market will be better.

Thanks Jeff for posting my new Dime. I sincerely appreciate it.
