I believe this has a good chance at crossing at the same grade at PCGS. Although I already have a really nice golden toned PCGS 58, I really like the toning on this coin. Assuming it crosses I'll have a tough decision to make as to which one makes the team.
Well my reign at the #3 Barber Half Everyman's Set ended today- Ed upgraded a couple more coins to step into the #3 spot and push me back to #4. It's a real horse race for the Show position! I see Darryl upgraded his set today as well; another plus??
It seems the battle between Ed and I is coming down to who can outspend the other. Newsflash- he'll win.

Agree completely; I only make moves when the opportunity makes cents (and dollars). Spot #4 is cozy; I spent a lot of time there and have made it my own. But, if the right opportunity presents itself.....
Jeff,Lenny, and Verne. I'm am collecting, not investing! I also am not concerned with the few 5 figure purchases I have made. I can justify them in 2 ways! 1...in the overall cost of my collection if they drop in value the coins I purchased earlier will more than compensate in the overall scheme of my set. 2nd...I purchased the coins I upgraded several years ago and have done quite well selling them...offsets the price a fair bit!
I plan on owning my set till I can't see the coins anymore or reside under the grass. That's not to say if someone offered me an exorbitant amount for my set I would be tempted to sell it.
Darrell, Hope you don't think I was directing my comments your way! I do know that some collectors are interested in status first and making intelligent coin purchases second. I'm glad you love your coins, and I love mine too, and at the end of the day, none of is really need to justify our purchases!
Paesan...while I felt the comment was sortta directed at me I didn't take it the way you think! My grades posted and if nothing changes the plus Gods were with me and I should be standing at the top of the Mountain! As always hoped for more but they are all Pop 1's!
Honestly it was an opinion I have, not directed at anyone. Just feel that being somewhere in the middle of the pack and really liking your coins is as good as being #1. I don't even know how much you paid for your stuff! I never would ask or snoop out that info.

! And you don't think an everyman set is the middle of the pack?
Congrats Darrell on reclaiming the #1 position! Now you need to find that elusive '97 O PC 58 to complete the set and set a standard that will likely never be topped. I see a lot of yellow Top Pop in your set- it looks mighty pretty.
Darrell - Congratulations on the added plus grades, and on returning to #1. And to clarify my opinion on registry sets and 5 figure coins, I'm all for anyone enjoying his/her collection any way they choose. It's a great hobby and individuals look at it in different ways.

Jeff - I'll take that as a compliment, but if we were to discuss politics and the issues confronting our country, I'm positive you would not find me politically correct. I consider myself a realist, and reality is something all our national politicians choose to ignore.
Paesan - Well put.

Darrell, To elaborate a little, my expectations as to being a "dealer" for the first time were to simply practice my communication skills with fellow dealers and collectors, hopefully make a few contacts, and to sit back and observe. Selling coins was not a priority, though I ended up selling 7 in total. Mike did help out a lot and I'm glad to have had a few in my case that interested him.
The clientele was mostly scroungers, rifling thru cardboard flips and buckets of cheapies in search of small treasures. Had I known, I'd have brought some of my modern stuff and probably would have sold more. Almost sold a few 500$ plus coins but nobody pulled the trigger.
Best moment was selling a 25$ Lincoln Cent that I had brought to a YN who was excited and enthusiastic. It brought me back to when collecting was purely for the love of collecting coins; that pure passion that the grumpy old men with their lists and sheets have long forgotten. It was a 1938-S/S/S PC 64 Rd. When I gave him the loop to look at it, he just thought it was really neat and he ate it up. It was my best sale of the day.

Nothing new Barberwise to report. I just picked up a 1917-S Dime
which is Broadstruck. Really kind of neat. NGC 62.
Last week, I picked up my first Large Cent - an 1839 Booby Head - PCGS 35 CAC.
As you can see, I'm just a wild and crazy guy ...

I think you now need to work on getting the top "Lowball" set tp go along with your top Everyman Set. Bookends!!!
Lenny...an Everyman set is what ever you want to make it. I was actually comparing it to a set like Dr. Pete's!

My remark was intended as a compliment, but Lenny correctly pointed out the flaw in my thinking.
What would we do without Lenny.
Darrell..... Don't know how you did it to go over that Nebraska set,
but you did it. I see quite a few 58+'s, maybe that's how. I hope these
pluses came from your original 58's and were upgraded. Buying 58+'s
is cost prohibitive.
Vern.... I think all of feel a debt of gratitude towards you for the countless
things you do for us on a daily basis. Imaging your friends' coins and posting
the images has been great. So, thank you for that.
Big day here in SW Florida tomorrow, our Paesan and JeffRTampa are sharing a table
at the Fort Myers Coin Club Fall Show at the Masonic Lodge on Metro Parkway. It's a newer
locale this year. I normally don't attend as a majority of the coins offered are for the most part
for the entry level to intermediate Collectors. Taking my male dog for a ride and spend a half hour
or so chatting with the guys. I never find decent Barbers at that show, so, Lenny and Jeff should do well.

Care to share any details?
I had a great time picking thru Jeff and Lenny's coins.
I got there about Noon, and I was glad I had a GPS
because they moved the venue. It's about the same size
as before, but there are additional rooms to expand into,
if need be.
It was great looking over Jeff's newps - and seeing some
of his recently holdered coins. I still scratch my head about
a Half he had bought in a 53 holder from our hosts, upon advice,
he sent it ATS and got the AU 58 grade it deserved.
I was able to pick up from Jeff three MS V Nickels - common dates in
PCGS 63- 64 - all very well struck and flashy. I was very pleased at the quality.
.
I was very surprised to find in Paesan's case an 1900-O Quarter in PCGS 53 that has a lot
Of personality... Beautifully toned .... And much nicer than the 53 in my set. Plus, the real treat of
the day was finding a raw 1907-S Quarter in AU/MS. ( Which I will send off to be graded while at FUN )
Overall, a good day !

Newest addition - a duplicate - and a bit more eye appeal than the one in my set.
I discovered that one of the certified coins I bought from Paesan had a True View.
As I bought this for a friend, he's thrilled.
