Well after much hounding from Mike I have started uploading pictures of my coins. Turns out I didn't have to resize them! YEAH! I have uploaded pictures of the 1st 20 coins in my set and opened it back up.
A new purchase showed up in the mail this morning; a raw 1909 S 50C with an inverted mintmark:
Although nothing special, it's a nice example of the famous San Francisco screw-up. Although they're fairly common in G to VG condition, the coin is a bit tougher in upper grades. I think this one may clock in as an AU 50.
Awesome set, and your work is much appreciated. I am sure there was a TON of effort in this set, and it's nice to see the hard work. I am sure I will be looking at it many more times.
Jeff, I don't remember telling you to sit tight, but I do think its easy to overspend when these big collections suddenly become available, and I think if you're patient, some of the scraps are very worthy and come at good prices.
Darrell, Looking forward to viewing your coins on my computer tonight. Thanks for sharing!
I chose a few of Don's coins as well...
92-O quarter 58+
00-O quarter 58
08 half 58
11 half 58
On fence on 11-S quarter, which I sold to Don a few months ago. Nice coin but don't won't to buy it back for > sale price.
Darrell, I think it's almost impossible to do a 58 set without overpaying for the last half dozen coins. My final Barber half set will feature many 45-53 range coins. I think I'll cap out at about 3K.
There are a few coins I passed on several years ago that I thought were overpriced.I really kick myself in the derrier now for not buying them! It only takes less collectors than you can count one 1 hand to keep the tough ones pricey.
Major Congradulations are due here to Coinhusker! He has opened up his set of Barber Half's and is the 1st person I know of to complete a Barber silver series in straight up 58!

Along with FIVE (yes, 5) 58+ coins!
I'm planning my next vacation to Nebraska to visit the Brad Spelt Barber Half Shrine. I need to pray to the God of '97 O for forgivrness, redemption, and upgrade.

Until the coins are photographed and placed in an online album the set doesn't exist to me. Darryll, you're still on top in my book! The gauntlet has been thrown down for Brad to execute!!
Another interesting factoid over at the Everyman's Barber Half Registry Set- there's only one obscured set on the list. Does anyone know who "Cardyman" is?
Posted not too long ago in a regular thread, but thought I'd share here as well. Recent pickup, for what's turning out to be an all 1892 Barber type set (in a PCGS MS-64 holder)...
I ended up bidding for a friend - on his dime, of course. I was able to nail down a stellar Quarter - a 1907 - PCGS 66. ( lot : 98584 ).
I was looking at a few (back of the book stuff - Internet Only ) Nickels and Dimes. I was blown out of the water on all the V Nickels and two of the three Dimes. I won an attractive 1895 Dime - PCGS 63 CAC ( lot: 99168 )
I am unable to post images until I get my lap top back from debugging at Best Buy. So... If anyone would like to add my images - I would be grateful.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Mike - Congrats on the 1895 dime, which I see is a proof. I had an interest in the 1897-O qtr, formerly Eliasberg, but it went for more than twice what I thought it would bring. WOW!!!
Pics for this AM, the 97-O, I'll be keeping, PC62:
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
I received my two coins from the former Surfcity collection a few days ago; '98 O and '00 O Halves. I tried to update my Registry set this morning to find out Don still has them in his set. I sent the e-mail asking them to be removed, but I'm a bit surprised he didn't already take them down. It's a little hard to forget a few coins when an entire set is sold.
Jeff... I sent a couple of Removal Requests - and on the second one, the coins were added to my sets.

That's a really attractive 97-O Quarter. I was also tracking the Eliasberg example. However, $17.5K + the 17.5% juice ( $20,562.50 ) is a bit heavy ( to say the least )....granted, it was a really nice coin. ///////\\\///////\\\ Glad I bought the PC 65 when I did back in August at the ANA auction. Now, I think I ended up stealing the coin at $3100 all in.

Yup, I think the new PR 63 - 1895 Dime will look really nice next to the MS 64 I have. I was a touch disappointed I didn't land a few of the Gardner Nickels - they went way past my comfort zone ... If I bought any of them, I'd be buried in with them. Sorry to say.
Wonder if the after market will be better.
Thanks Jeff for posting my new Dime. I sincerely appreciate it.

Mike - Before the Gardiner sale, I thought you got a steal on your 97-O qtr, now you really look golden. Someone must think that Eliasberg coin will make MS67. Would like to have seen it in hand. I did see the 07-S, but it wasn't for me in that grade (and subsequent price).\\/////Pics for this AM, surf's up, newp into Paesan's Stash, PC-58+:
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
I received my Surfcity purchases earlier this week. After a brief delay getting Don to release them from his set they're now in my Registry sets. First, a '98 O Half PCGS AU 58:
Those are my photos along with the Trueview images. The coin looks like my images, not the Trueview image. This one has a rather average (poor) strike for New Orleans.
Next up a 1900 O PCGS AU 58 Half:
The coin has nice luster with mossy toning and a light case of the mumps. The strike is pretty bad on the reverse with the tail feathers just a blob. Once again the coin looks like my images, not the Trueview.
I'm happy with the coins and like them in hand much more than the Trueview images portrayed.
Adding these coins has elevated me to the #3 slot in the Everyman's set, but just for a few hours until Ed enters his new purchases. I need to take a snapshot.
Jeff,That is fairly common on New Orleans Half's. It was most likely caused by sawdust as this was what they stored the dies in. Your Pictures make me say 92....alias cleaned.
Jeff.... I agree with Amworld/ Darrell: back in the day, all New Orleans coin dies were packed in sawdust to remove the moisture from the steel dies. Many coins have been struck with slight depressions on the cheek. Recently I was shown a great looking 1904-O Quarter in PCGS 58 - the cheek depression was large enough to make me pass on the otherwise fantastic looking coin. Your newp seems to be "brushed".

My Everyman Set of Barber Half's soon to be passed again!
I'm speechless. Excuse me while I take my collection to the trash.
Nothing wrong with the coins you have!
Craig - I think some Surf City coins will be nice, and some will leave us shaking our heads.
Jeff - You're killing me, congrats on the additions.
Darrell - Very glad you're sharing your collection with the rest of us.

Yes there are photos. Some seem a bit sketchy. It could be the photos, or the grade coins they used to photograph.

An 1895 Proof 63 from the Gardner collection. I think Mike had the 128 color box on this one. Very nice; I think I want to lick it.
Easy, Fido!
I bet it would be a dull grey after the lick!
Nice Dime I think Mike...sure is a lotta light beaming in in those pictures.

Your Climbing the Mountain Jeff!
Yes, but the mountain keeps getting higher. I'm at the point now where I need to be on oxygen.
Another raw pickup came in the mail today. It won't do anything to improve my set, but it seems like a nice coin- a 1903 O Half:
What's up with the depression on the cheek, a planchet flaw or a filled die? Opinions?
This looks to me like an AU 53; it's a tougher date in AU.
