Guys, which barber series is the most depressed right now, in terms of value? Halves, quarters, dimes, or nickels? Any???
Case-by-case, rarity levels can define what looks depressed from a price standpoint regardless of type. Halves, to me, look pricey as a series vs. quarters or dimes (quarters used to be more pricey many moons ago). Dimes, or other series for that matter are case-by-case based on rarity / scarcity / availability or quality-levels. You can say nickels are depressed but do you sense that there will be a future collecting uptrend over silver? I don't believe that to be the case.
Some on this thread have previously stated, in light of this, they will reserve their funds for tougher quality dates and go after those. I think that would apply across all Barber issues but gravitate a bit to the larger silver.
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
Aside from 3 key dates, the Liberty Nickel series is easy and inexpensive to complete. Low end MS coins are very reasonably priced. The big 3 Liberty Nickels are a different story, however. Here's my Big 3:

My set is currently on GC, minus the big 3 that I kept. I thought I would take some of the funds and rebuild it and nicer than before. I do want to spent more resources working on the dimes though. Thanks for the input guys!

From a fire?
My suspicion is the lump is from a roll of 1902 Liberty Nickels (both the top and bottom coin are dated 1902). I want to believe the fire was part of the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Who knows?

Looking at the detail, do you think it was an uncirculated roll originally? (unsure whether you can extrapolate that kind of determination)
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
The top and bottom coins are both 1902; no idea what's I the middle. To me the detail of a MS coin is there, but who knows? The melt point of nickel is rather high; it was likely quite a fire. Intentional damage? Why?
I believe I paid about $50 for the lump, so the seller didn't get rich.
The '14 S Barber Quarter is a tough date. Not up there with the Big 3, but maybe a distant 4th. My set has featured a F 15 for several years. I recently purchased an ICG VF35:
It won't come back as a 35, but I think a 30 is realistic.

Always neat to see rare coins like the '14-S. Congrats Jeff. BTW, I am really liking Florida down here after it has opened up a bit out of the Covid thing. Sad I had to go to Florida just to get a haircut (Tuesday).

Jeff, That's a liner...Looks light, but also recent. Perhaps it will be knocked to a 30 as you suspect it would grade but certainly has the details for a 35. I've seen worse straight grade and a lot less severe get a details grade.

I'm with Dogwood on details of the 14-S Quarter Jeff! I just hope that scratch across the cheek doesn't play into the grade.
You think it will get a Details grade? I was going to crack it out and submit it raw, but I may need to re-think.
I haven't had time to do much research recently. I'm curious about the blob MM; isn't that common for this date?
OK, now I understand your thoughts.
The scratch that shows in the photo isn't visible to the naked eye, and is barely visible with 5X magnification. The lighting in my photo was off and really enhanced an extremely minor scratch. Darryl, you're typically a conservative grader, so I like your opinion!
P,D,O and S mint set of gemmy Barber Halves.
(Curiously, there is no Registry set for a Barber Half mint mark set the way there is for Morgan Dollars.)

That's a good way to do a set. When I get finished with a couple of my projects, I plan on doing a 20th century and 19th century mint mark set.!

Best of luck on that accomplishment. No small feat but beautiful to enjoy once finished! - @Eldorado9 A fine set of coins here as of late. I still can't get over the color and originality of that '05 proof set you shared! - Tim

Water color effect photo editing software?
Um, yes, I'm going to guess our hosts wouldn't certify it as pictured. I had 2 minutes of bordum and MS Paint to provide a little fun.
I was gonna say... I thought you showed that '11 without color before.

Lovely, ummmm.... electric blue rim toning adorns this superb gem, says the auction catalog!

Nice! It took the Post Office 115 years to deliver your Proof Set?
Well, USPS can be a bit slow......Wish I could have paid the 1905 price!
Very pretty Proof Set @Eldorado9 !
Thanks very much Dimeman!!!!! It's a nice original set.
Color is awesome for the set. Love the way the pic sets it off.

With out a doubt, Nickels!
Does that mean its time to build a set?
If you like them why not?

If that doesn’t grade 35, which I’ll bet it does, it’s going to be the best 30 out there.
It would get a gold Dog Bone©️

Nice 14-S Quarter @JeffMTampa ! This mintage on that is about the same as a 16-D Dime.
Jeff that's a real nice 14-S - I think the blob style S is common. Here's a pic of mine which is just a VG-8.

Not really
Blob "S" is common. 'Somewhat' clear S is rare to very rare.

This was discussed here before. I don't think anyone came up with a clear S example!
