Thanks @DIMEMAN . As pretty as they are, they look even more attractive to me knowing that they came out of Mike's collection.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.
Love that 01-O half Vern. I didn’t always agree with Mike’s coin eye. I’m more of a crusty coin lover. But we sure agreed on the 01-O Vern purchased from him. I only
met Mike in person once at FUN. But we did correspond regularly about Barbers and his beautiful dogs.
A lot of you know that I prefer my coins to be toned. There was just enough toning on this one to tempt me.

Wow, beautiful coin! As usual, Cary, you have a great eye for ferreting out some real gems. It's tough enough to find a coin - even among 58s - without any technical issues (I'm a third as old with more visible scars), but finding one with just the right amount of toning (at least for some, myself included) that accentuates and doesn't distract from a coin's natural beauty is truly exceptional. If I ever shift gears from a focus on dimes, this is the look to which I would aspire.
Finally have something to contribute. My barber coins consist of low grade type set hole fillers mostly. This is my best one. Light cameo affect if I'm using the term properly.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. Not all of my coins are as "wholesome" looking as the 92-O. A lot of them have more toning as I tend to be a color enthusiast. However, I like this look too, so I'm quite happy with the coin.
And I've always focused exclusively on the halves until the past couple of years. I have a couple of dimes, but I've ventured into the quarters more than I originally intended. I suppose they grew on me after I acquired a few nice examples. That, and if I'm being completely honest, seeing Vern's fantastic set, hearing his love for the series, and getting some encouragement from him... he is a key reason I think I've come to really like the quarters.

A very nice example of a much harder date than a lot of people realize.

Here are a couple of recent additions to my collection to keep the thread moving along.
While I don't pursue the halves anymore (I now own a grand total of five!), this one had the specific look that I really appreciate on circulated Barbers so I jumped on it. The fact that it's a semi-key date was just icing on the cake! Sort of that circulated cameo look you see on a lot of VG examples, but this one has a lot more meat still left on the bone. In the holder of our hosts as an AU55 (a touch overgraded perhaps?):
And my other newp is a semi-key date quarter in a PCGS MS65 slab and endorsed by CAC:

Nice Barbers. Personally I don't think the 09-O is overgraded. Looks nice and original to me....not dipped and shinney.

Vern, You know how I treasure the '99-S as a date... what a nice example!
Cary, the '09-O half and '08-S quarter... both are exquisite... great job in picking those up.
Jeff, I feel your pain. That "internal struggle" hits too close to home for me as well. Your half is awesome and you have definitely pulled together a nice set of halves... like Vern says, you gotta "want what you got".
I have been off the grid lately I know. My mom finally passed Sunday after being in hospice.
You know, I think I'll go to my local coin shop today to take my mind off things.

I will never forget seeing Jeff's Barber Half display at the FUN Show. That was such an awesome display of beautiful coins and the addition of the times showing what was going on during those years was very interesting to view. Great display Jeff!

Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
Best coin show in the eastern Iowa, southern Wisconsin, western Illinois area took place today. The nicest part of this great hobby is sharing it with good friends. (And I'll wager there were more nice original barber and seated coins there than in all the dealer cases at the ANA).
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Craig - thanks for the compliment. You have some kind of Barber quarter set yourself my friend.
Vern - Thanks for posting the group picture. What a terrific day/get together/time spent with friends looking at each others coins. It doesn't get any better.

Nice Nickel variety. What grade is it?
PCGS MS63 and appears to be a fairly early die state for the RPD.
Very nice variety. I want to get one of those for my variety type set.
Agreed. - Tim
