What is the benefit of having someone pay money for people to have dealer badges?
How can people waiting in the line for the gold coins not have badges and register for the show? If they are not ANA members, they would have to get charged $6.00 and register TODAY. If they wanted to join the ANA yesterday for one year, they could get into the show for free for the whole show and not have to register today.
Is it true that the Early Bird/dealer badges only allow a person to get into the show two hours prior to the public for all five days of the show?

I find this to have interesting casino gambling parallel with video poker. Many video poker machines have progressive jackpots where the machines are linked, and for each hand that the top hand (usually a royal flush) is not hit, the royal increases by 1% of the total bet (jackpot goes up $0.05 for every $5.00 bet). When the royal is hit, it resets and starts anew.
Guys with big money would hire knowledgeable grunts (like me when I started) to monopolize a progressive bank, thus guaranteeing them exclusivity to the jackpot while having safeguards to make sure that there was no "leakage" of funds - all legal!
After waiting for over three months to get the HOF gold coin and then getting nothing in the end after they emailed me a shipping date, the mint has one more chance. If I can't get on line and get a coin today, I'm going to turn my back on this crap and let the grading services and the market manipulators play their games. Collecting should be fun. Messing with this is not.

THis is mint to demand. If you do not get on today you should have no problem tonight or tomorrow. If you are not in a hurry to flip
you will have no problem getting one by ordering after the rush. If not getting coins that are to be minted to demand occurs than that
will be a real problem.

All this activity may spark new collector interest in Kennedy halves, at least for a while.
I'm tempted to pick up a 1998-S uncirculated silver Kennedy from the commemorative set for around $200. It still has a chance of remaining the key (mintage 63K) after the dust settles.
Philly line was loaded with kids with wristbands. Also looked like loads of college Age kids as well. Anyone who camped out overnight got wristbands well before Line started forming

If many of those new collectors get treated the way I was with the HOF gold coin, they will be looking for a new hobby.
The Gray Sheet says that the HOF gold coin in Proof has bid of $640. That sounds like a nice profit over the issue price, but I've never seen a dealer pay the Gray Sheet price for a modern commemorative coin. It's always something lower than that.

Holy crap, that's insane! Was going to get one from the mint... not so sure now. Feel like all of these special labels will devalue the typical 70 FS. Probably get a graded one for a little more than mint price.
Funny story. Checked my email this morning. Got one from an ebay seller. Must've bought a coin from them in the past. They were paying $250 if you sent a unopened, sealed box of 5 to them. They had a set of step-by-step instructions. The kicker was the last step said something like "We promise to send you a check within 5 days of receiving the box." I seriously laughed out loud.
Edit: Forgot my mini-rant. I used to collect baseball cards. I slowed when grading became the norm. I stopped when companies went insane with special inserts. I'm starting to feel the same level of disgust with these coin show labels...
$6K/coin (counting the freebie) - good for the sellers. Pretty good money for a little work!
I wonder what kind of deal that ST worked out for labeling of these first four coins. As many know, my son bought the first HOF Coins sold in Balto. This was discussed in all of the major coin mags, on TV, on the Mint Facebook page, on the Whittman wev site and J. Marc Landry of the Mint even signed his gold proof COA "First coin sold" in front of the cameras. Still, neither of the TPGs would certify it as such. I am very interested to see if ST can get PCGS or NGC to cert these as first sold.
As noted at the time, he (a 10 year old!) was bombarded by dealers offering big $ for the coin but didn't sell. I wonder if the ST guy was one of them.
This whole thing is amusing and marginally pathetic at the same time. Sort of like watching a train wreck. You know it's bad, but you cannot take your eyes off of it!
It would be cooler if they were all Fair-2 to AG-3 Genuine Details Chain Cents laden with problems that would get some special show label. Chain side up and identifiable.

Cool ! A person has to be somewhere, why not get paid to be in a line. This whole thing about the US Mint releasing Coins at Coin Shows is getting nutzoid , though. The publicity has got to be good for the Coin World.

My waiting time is 3 minutes which is a good time. Figures. I am not ordering. Just wanted to see how long I have to wait. Maybe not as popular an item.

If PCGS does not require show receipts to get show labels it can be assumed that many of these non show coins
will end up getting show labels. This will make NGC the REAL SHOW LABEL to get.

I agree with that. Nothing special about the first four, other than the outlandish price and the publicity splash for ST.

WTF? I just received an email from the Mint CANCELING my order.

Actually you are in the wait room waiting to get into the actual wait room.

If you did, it'll get cancelled. The mint is very specific on that.
