Remember the SF set had MAJOR quality issues...the West Point Mint usually has great QC....
Oh, and the SF proof was also available in the C & C set (still available)
This set has two unique coins.....probably minimal reduction in mintage numbers
<< <i>That ASE 2012-S proof is the second lowest minted proof (to the 95-W), even if the Mint sells the 99,999 limit on the C&C set. Might be a sleeper... >>
I think you're right. However, I think it'll be sleeping well into the next century or until it gets smelted.
This is actually IMO good evidence as to why a Huge dealer would drop price 24 hours before the deadline... It's fair both ways; to those that want 70's in FS, and to the dealers/flipers themselves...as this sudden offering and price-drop in graded FS 70's may keep the final mintage #'s down by 10k or 20k (+ cancelations). I also feel (just my feeling with no inside info) that the QC issues SF had will not be present at the WP Mint. I'm from the Bay Area (SF/Oakland), and I was disappointed in the 2012s set in regards to Quality. Even with the newly Enhanced MS coin, I feel they will hit the nail on the head with this one. It's always a gamble, and even in collecting these days. At least unlike a real 55/50 gamble (sportsbook), the set will never be less than the price of melt (both PM and plastic).
For me... As a peasant in the Game; I got 5 sets within the FS eligible shipment and I'll pick up a couple of these 70 sets just for the SDB. As a true collector and not a flipper (yet, for as long as I can help), my Gramps (RIP) and I combined, sent in 17 sets total (for FS labels) of the 2012s and received only 3 poofs in 70 and not a single reverse proof in 70. Not the fault of PCGS, but of the SF mint, again IMO.
I hope everyone is happy with this set, as I just want Nice coins... So I hope that there are enough 70's for every Collector out there without getting strangled. The profit margin (ROI) for dealers should be nice, flippers won't lose at worst, and collectors get what they want...Nice coins
<< <i>what is happen here? does anyone know why the price for pcgs 70 keep reducing? even those they have not receive the coin and graded yet. >>
Prices drop when supply exceeds demand, particularly when a volume seller would rather make money and have no supply left by selling all at a little profit rather than trying to keep the price high and competing with others willing to sell for less.
In this case, as people who have watched the SAEs over the years have seen, there are a higher % of SAEs being graded 70. Particularly proofs/reverse proofs. Even on unc coins the number of 70s are increasing.
The above is from my observations as a collector as well as a flipper in small volumes of these. As a collector, I don't go in and out at the drop of a hat...rather, I stay interested and watch.
The point of my earlier post regarding the "ordering" of these sets coincides with it being the last day to order them. One fairly recent change the U.S. Mint made, which I find a benefit to numismatics, is offering certain items at a very limited production number, as the General's Proof set this year , limited to 10,000 sets which sold out fast; or option 2, which is to mint a product 'to order' , for a certain number of days. In this case, the 2013 American Eagle (W) 2 coin set sold relatively well. A quarter million plus ? Although the recent change in how some items are produced "to order" will likely increase "total sales numbers" from the Mint with some issues, it can also result in a low mintage, under the radar offering, at some point... and maybe not "West Point", which brings us back to "supply and demand".
Ordering the 2 coin 70 PCGS FS set from Goldmart @ $279.99 is a NO BRAINER. BTW the less expensive NGC sets are all sold out. (I prefer the Flag label & cancelled my US Mint Order )
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
Also by ordering graded coins from MCM, Silvertowne or GoldMart instead of raw from the Mint you are actually keeping the Mint numbers down and maybe increasing the value of your set...
my 5 sets from the Mint says the expected ship date is 7/11. The adveritisement on the Mint's page says expected shipping is 9/30. I hope this works in my favor.
I ordered 2- PCGS70FS sets from Goldmart. I hope there is a small profit on the raw sets to help offset a little on the 70 sets.
@ Elite CNC Routing & Woodworks on Facebook. Check out my work. Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
Bought two more from silvertowne (with the eagle label) They have a limited # left. The blue label sold out, 56 left of the eagle label and 35 left of the flag label. I would just rather spend the money on 5 70 sets then go out and try and get them myself lol.
<< <i>Ordering the 2 coin 70 PCGS FS set from Goldmart @ $279.99 is a NO BRAINER. BTW the less expensive NGC sets are all sold out. (I prefer the Flag label & cancelled my US Mint Order ) >>
I just bought a second PCGS Flag label set for $274.99 plus shipping from Goldmart.
<< <i>2013 American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set (S40) There has been a lot of excitement about these sets. The US Mint has sold over 250,000 sets. So there are going to be plenty of sets to go around. We have several thousand sets coming. We think prices will fall on these sets just like last year with the San Francisco 2 coins sets. With that in mind we will not be doing presales this month. We want to wait till the prices stabilize like last year. Last year those that waited saved! >>
Those that waited did not save. I followed the prices on eBay and the major sellers pretty closely and I don't recall them ever dropping below presale prices. The PCGS FS70 sets were preselling under $300, peaked around $500 in the initial frenzy and have settled in the $400-425 range. Not sure what NGC ER presold for but they flirted with $400 and have settled back to $325 range. I know I bought some from Jeremy around $270 right after the mint closed out their sales. I really don't see anything but upside on the PCGS sets at Goldmarts presale prices- other than the risk of spotting ( which as much as my ms and pr PCGS ASEs were hammered with spots, so far not a single rPR has developed any. Hopefully this holds true for the EF finish as well).
I contacted CS about the counter number and possible returns, and the rep. said that they have been deducting returns from the total (unlike last year). Looks like the 2013-W reverse proof will likely have the highest mintage of the four ASEs. I think it's gonna be pretty unlikely that the 2011 RP will ever be beaten--that's where I'd put my money.

Yes, and the number was adjusted months after the close of sales because of returns and cancellations AFTER the end of sale due to quality and late delivery issues. I would think quality should be better with this set but the late delivery of sets ordered after the 1st week (not FS/ER eligible) could still drop the total significantly.
..also it's probably not fair to compare this RP with one that has 100k total....that 2011 will obviously be the key of the RP's as the S burnished is the key non-error of the burnished
I think the sales of the 2012 SF set and 2013 WP set, give insights into the actual size of the ASE collector market and it's considerably smaller than 250,000. Many people buy doubles hoping to sell at a profit along with the dealers and home shopping networks. However, most collectors will have already order their sets.

it also cost an extra $36 per set to get the FS label via PCGS (NGC is a no-charge for ER), so it really is about a $14 difference in pricing.

Thanks Erik for enlightening me.
Which PCGS label do you think will the most sought after? Anyone else care to chime in too?
Thanks in advance.

Very interesting, Goldmart has dropped their price. Anyone have any insight on the low price for 70s for 2013?
The 2012 RP is roughly $300 in 70, still seems like a no brainer to me at this price to grab one...
