Scott - Thanks for the link on the counterfeit 96-S. I was at a show yesterday where a dealer told me that a Chinese counterfeit 1901-S quarter was floating around. I tried to find it, to no avail.
DrPete - Those look like the same coin to me. Slightly different lighting obscuring the 3 light marks in front of the portrait to some extent on a couple.
KAJ1 - nice looking 07-O, although pics may not have the color as it is. You said it was in an NGC-63. What did PCGS say? AU58 or MS64?
Scott - There are slab variety collectors, I guess there must be a couple of slab error collectors as well. No sillier than spending over $1000 on an AU58+ common date indian cent, I guess.
Only newp from yesterday's coin show:
Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Very nice coin KAJ .. Pretty easy to see that is a really nice coin in hand
Great looking 08-O Quarter Vern .. Looks very original and lustrous
Here is a newp that lasted mili-seconds on the DKRC website .. Although dipped and in spite of flat obverse stars, still has a nice overall look to it. Sharp detail except on most obverse stars and rolling luster bands are strongly evident .. Rare enough to be worth the pickup (strike doesn't look weak but the stars lack definition and are quite flat .. If anyone knows what would cause this I am curious. I have seen none other like this):
Mike - I like the look of that .. MS flash can't be beat - clean, crisp and super luster - Very nice indeed
New PCGS secure holder purchased from a seller in Austria of all places .. this coin has amazing proof like flash not seen well in the photos and is a virtual twin in looks and eye appeal to the 1893-S I bought a few months back from Cary .. The toning is similar but the 93-S has album toning and is more pronounced, yet they are equally attractive.. Die polish lines are strongly evident and the frost on the devices is mouth watering .. Looking at the pix you'd never know the true appeal of what the coin offers - The image is that taken by PCGS (secure plus holder image) - cert # 26654998 can be seen here (1892-S PCGS Secure AU58)
Side by side comparison of the 1892-S AU58 (PCGS photo) and the 1893-S AU58 (Cary's photo)
What a beautiful run of wonderfully toned dimes Mike
One other newp - an elusive date I have not yet seen offered in really any grade in 2+ years of searching (other than a raw AU I picked up a few months back that appears to have slightly "altered" surfaces albeit nice eye appeal anyway)
A beautiful and deeply and fully struck toned 1906-D Barber Quarter is tonight's subject. The beauty of this coin is undeniable. The toning is exquisite; varying shades of darker blues of mostly cobalt and midnight blue. Golden hues and shades of rose and lilac are easily seen when rotated and tilted. The darker toning blends towards brilliant and highly lustrous pure silver centers. Accented by the deep toning, this contrast yields terrific eye appeal!! Beneath the deep toning are gorgeous and unadulterated surfaces void of wipe lines. While the 06-D is a common date, this is the first one in 2+ years I have personally encountered in AU. I feel compelled to say this is NOT a common coin.
Furthermore, at least one member has been the keeper of this coin at one time ......... right Mike? eh-hem *cough*cough*
<< <i>You should write copy for Heritage. Great description. Stunning coin but I had an AU 58 off white in my last set and bought a richly toned 63 to keep. If I had that AU 55 it was some time ago ... just don't remember it. >>
Ahhh .. My mistake Mike. It was inferred from the previous owner that you were the caretaker at one point in time, although that person did say he was not 100% sure of it. I did see your 58 in your old set, but of course that doesn't mean you wouldn't have had a few dupes lying around.

I think he has been hanging around Teaparty too much.
Vern, the seller had the "my father's collection" yadda yadda going on in the description. I looked at his items and feedback, turns out he sold auto parts 99.99% of the time. SO I took a chance fully expecting a 14-S removed mintmark to show up. I was wrong.
As far as photobucket, they have changed their layout. It seems more clunky now. When you go to the page (assuming you are already signed in) click on your Library. Once you see the picture you want, click on that. When at the picture, in the upper right there will be a box with an arrow similar to the iPhone if you use that. Click on that, and it brings up a box. Click on the links tab and that brings up the old menu where you could pick direct link, image coded link etc.

I also noticed there is a new Hayes set open in the Everyman Quarters set. Are we to assume there is a new competitor?

Uh oh, photobucket changed and I can't just copy a direct link. Anyone know an easy way to proceed?

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Dave
Incredible dimes! They look like oil paintings. Does anyone know why dimes colored up better than quarters and halves?
Pretty amazing coins there sir...
Vern - that 1910 quarter is stunning ! The luster is incredible and the appeal is off the charts
WoW!! Some beautiful coins posted folks - really nice
