    NGC

Can you believe that NGC would designate a die crack sample (bootstrap) on their label but not the double dies???? C'mon!!!! imageimage

Nice discovery! Do you guy's know if this seller in on the forum,if not,we need him to promote as well. I think that specific DD would even get our host's attention.Yes,there is a very, very slim chance that he will even get a third,of what he's asking.Good luck for him, though. imageimage

Joey, Wexler has the 2009-S proof wddr-006, that is listed for 10k on the bay, valued at $100 in pf65. It will be interesting to see where these actually fall when the CPG comes out. I'm still waiting on Whitman

publishing to respond to my inquiry about its publication date.

I'm still recovering from seeing Pitboss' latest find......lol imageimage

He purchased five boxes dated 4/23 right in the sweet time slot for about $10 a box. This is a test for everyone....what do you think he'll find inside those boxes? One guess per person please..... Pitboss cannot

guess...he already knows, as do I.....

Is it the " bootstrap" mentioned earlier? Pretty cool, because you said,NGC just allowed in the family! Whatever you find/found pitboss,a huge imageimage to ya buddy. imageimage

My hopeful guess is for 6 to 8 of something spooky, that some may have in their closets, and 4 to 6 DDR007's. imageimage

Haha...keep guessing! You may have to read earlier posts on this thread or go to the other "formative errors found" thread (another long one) to find out. Pitboss is probably itching to divulge the answer too!

I will give only one hint....this error is considered the best of the best by most. Ok, you're on your own....lol.....good luck imageimage

edited to add....Oh, wait...I just re-read 2009uhr's response....."something spooky that might be in your closets" is right on! a doubled thumbs up to you sir! imageimage

Well I opened one box today. I only went thru the P mint. Are there any of these errors in the D mint rolls? My finding for one roll.

bsshg40...the "P" mint rolls are the ones to check for errors. Congrats on finding some 002's, the famous doubled thumbs imageimage which is now the official logo for the "believers" on this

thread. I am going to refer you to John Wexler's site that lists all of the 2009p errors. www.doubleddie.com has the complete listings of known errors. It will show the errors also for the proof mint sets and

the special mint sets with the copper cents. thanks for sharing your findings and good luck in your future hunt for the grail....imageimage

The Wexler site is a great source for identifying the various errors in the formative series. Also it's a good read for understanding what constitutes a doubled die vs. hub doubling, finding errors in other dates, etc.

    Now, back to the hunt!

Got a couple of bank boxes in today.

Opened 20 rolls so far and found some WDDR 014, 043,046, 054,and 058.

One roll with 043 on the end.

I only look at the hand not the whole coin.

Pitboss....you've lapped the field I think by now! If we did a total count by error I think only perhaps Papi or Dengarsen could challenge your totals. I thought I was doing competitively well for awhile but my hat is

off to you. Someday I hope to meet the "believers" but until then it sure is fun for me to be able to share our common goals and discoveries. It's because of Pitboss and Papi (where has he been?) especially but all

that have gotten into this particular niche and shared their thoughts, findings, enthusiasm, and camaraderie that I have been so inspired to collect these. Keep the faith believers!

Are any of you "believers" going to be at the Long Beach show? I'm tentatively planning on Thursday morning myself. I'd love to meet some of you. I will be bringing a couple of raw examples and bring them

to the PCGS table for a quick evaluation of grade (even though they won't slab them) . David Hall is going to do free evaluations! Pass the word, maybe we could have our first "formative club" meeting over some

coffee and doughnuts. Let me know so I can finalize my plans for that day! imageimage

I've never heard of some of these errors being in the same box, or in bank boxes

You seem to have uncanny luck; interesting
  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
Neither had I until I got these 2 bank boxes. Not only that but there were about 30 or 35 rolls with no errors in them at all. This was the way it was through both boxes. Most likely someone had opened the box scanned all the rolls and took out the rolls with the errors on the end and used the rest of that box to mix in with boxes that contained no errors. One box had 8 different errors and the other had only 4 as. Somebody did something to get these mixed up. What I usually find is errors tend to stay the same throughout a box.

Any other ideas what could have happened?

I'd love to come to Long Beach, but a bit of a ways for a small timer from Alaska. One of these days...maybe when the ddr's take off i can afford...

Long Beach is a long way from Albuquerque so I will not be attending.
I don't know how golden I am but I sure have spent plenty of gold buying these boxes. I don't even want to know!

Whats going on with all the pictures gone of the doubledies!

What pics are you referring to Pitboss. On page 17 of this thread I see Papi's best error pics still. Of course if you want the complete error list check here....d.d.'s

Looks like nobody else in our group will be in Long Beach but I'll try to represent by showing David Hall a few samples when he is doing free grading at the PCGS table. I'm sure he'll be bored just looking at

"old" coins, heh, so he'll see these shiny new pennies (I'll call them cents when I speak to him). He'll probably declare that from that day forward PCGS MUST begin to designate the errors on their slabs. Keep

looking and enjoying my fellow "believers"....we'll succeed someday! imageimage

Well, it's a snow day here in Mich and my kids got the day off.

Decided to play with the pennies a bit, put a bunch of 1's and 2's in flips. Found quite a few other odds and ends. I also found one of my old pics. One of only 2 coins that I ever lost money on. Hard to figure as IIRC a 67 initially went for $2,700 or so. I then snagged a 69 a few days later for at most $500 on bids, never thought I'd win the coin. Soon after, I tried a reflip, I think went for maybe $460. Let me puzzled and the only thing I could come up with was the plastic was to blame.

    So here's that one:

    image

and here's another shot of a small die crack..I've found a bunch of these and since I haven't been following along I'll assume it's nothing new...

    image

  • pitbosspitboss Posts: 8,643 ✭✭✭
    Yes I remember that one.

I had 2 of them and still have one. Great to see you still hanging on these coins.
