The jury is in on Navarro....GOTTA GO !!!

Can't play left field, can't play 3rd, can't play SS and can't catch a ball thrown to gun down a base stealer. AND, he seriously chokes when needed, can't get the clutch hit. I suspect almost anyone in nearby Lowell,MA (my hometown) where the Red Sox farm team the Lowell Spinners play could out-play and out-hit Navarro. He is now the lead Bozo of the club, and yes, ahead of the two Toads, Drew and Lackluster.

I shall now officially name him Uber Toad Navarro Get a clue clowno, you are in the major leagues, not headed to the park on a Saturday morning picking up a game along the way.

Geez, did we just split with KC ??? Not cool.

Rich Harden, pending physical, now member of Red Sox. Don't know the cost yet.

Looks like Boston is overcoming the White Sox curse for once tonight

Looks like a pretty cheap trade for the Red Sox just losing Anderson and a player to be named later. Anderson was of no use to the Red Sox

    anyway.

I'm placing the over/under on Harden's starts in a Red Sox uniform before his first DL stint at 1.5. And I'll take the under.

according to ESPN, you would be correct! ESPN says the deal that NESN reported last night as done...is now off. No idea why.

Yet another disappointment by Lackey the Toad...thankfully he only comes around every 5 days. He spends the other 4 at the bank, LHAO and counting his benjamins.

Francona has now gone to a 6 man (including 1 toad) rotation, so maybe we will not see him that often. It makes no sense to me to give

Beckett and Lester extra days off when they are the only ones able to pitch. It will just screw them up but what do I know.

<< <i>It will just screw them up but what do I know. >>

With that one statement you show that you know more than Francona does. If the 6-man rotation really worked, why is it that every team that has played around with it evenentually abandoned it? I think it throws pitchers off their schedules, it makes them less sharp when they do take the mound, and there are rarely any teams out there that have 6 guys that deserve to start so chances are good that several of your starters shouldn't be starting.

    << <i>6 man rotation >>

This somehow became a plausable option when the stats showed the numbers on (dare I bring his name up?) Dice-K were much better with 5 days rest vice 4.

    Beckett's Stats

Beckett looks to be marginally better on 5 days rest compared to 4 as well so maybe there is an argument to be made for it . . . Maybe the extra rest will help Beckett, Lester, and Bedard a little bit, but will it help them enough to offset having all three of the others (Miller, Wakefield, and Lackey) taking the mound once a week? It seems to me like they're just shooting for a .500 record with that rotation.

I think with Beckett, Lester, and Bedard having recently experienced injury, and the Sox generally destined for the post season, Francoma wants to ensure he can have his #1 and #2 starters healthy for the playoffs. In theory, each starter should be able to throw more pitches too, thus resting the bullpen so that Bard doesn't have to be misused...like the last couple of days.

I just don't think it'll last long. One or more of those guys will eventually hit the DL or there will be a rain out that causes someone to get skipped.

I'll be honest though. One of the things that bugs me most about this is that I have Beckett and Lester in a weekly fantasy league and the 6-man rotation will all but insure that they won't get 2 starts in a scoring period very often and that is no bueno for my team. Purely selfish of me.

After looking at their upcoming schedule again - I believe they conveniently added Bedard on Thursday to bump Lester to Friday - otherwise It'd have been either Bedard or Miller in the yankee series to go along with Slackey & Beckett. And I'm sure they took that into consideration. I somehow wish they could have moved Lester to Friday & Bedard into the slot on Saturday and somehow skipped "the monk fish."

What an ending to that game last night. A great slide by Salty after a clutch single by Ellsbury.

Indeed a nice win and much needed to keep the Yankee heat at bay.

Tis time for a bit of fun...the Red Sox record is now 67-41, which means 54 to play. So, let's see who can guess the final 2011 wins for the Sox.

The prize for the exact win column number will receive a very unique tour of the Salisbury, MA - Hampton Beach, NH area of New England. Perkdog (Paul) will be your personal escort on this tour, which will include a very special "hike" into the salt marshes of that wonderful area. I would suggest the winner wear appropriate foot gear for the salt marsh tour. Having been on the road between these two areas many times, I will exempt myself from this wonderful opportunity as I also have vivid memories of the salt marshes.

As a major bonus, if you also pick the exact win column number and the date upon which this happens, Paul will arrange to have his Perkies accompany you on this exquisite tour. AND a deep sea fishing excursion will be an option should you prefer to dump da Perkies. image

Though I am exempt, I will guess 102 wins for the season and the date is September 26th as we once again crush the lowly O's in O-Ville.

How I miss the smell of those pepper steaks cooking in Salisbury...not to mention the fried clams.

So, are you a wicked good guesser?

Sept 30th 101 wins. Thanks for the chance. I will have to take a vacation to Massachusetts from Albuquerque to partake.

I looked and looked but I couldn't find my preseason prediction for wins so I am going to pick a new one. I do remember that prior to the season there was a lot of talk about winning 100 games and then the Red Sox got off to that terrible start. Because of that I felt like they would end just shy of 100 games and even though the team really turned a corner a long time ago, I still think they fall shy of 100. With the pitching situation such as it is, I predict that the Sox will finish these 54 games with 30 wins which would give them a total of 97. I think they get their 97th win on September 27 at the Orioles.

They have a good mix of easy and challenging games ahead:

    2 vs Cleveland
6 vs New York, 3 @ New York
    3 @ Minnesota
    3 @ Seattle
    6 vs. Tampa, 3 @ Tampa
    4 @ Kansas City
    4 @ Texas, 3 vs. Texas
    3 vs. Oakland
    4 @ Toronto, 2 vs. Toronto
    4 vs. Baltimore, 3 @ Baltimore

The 20 games against Minnesota, Seattle, Kansas City, Oakland, and Baltimore should hopefully yield 13-15 wins.

If the Sox can win half of the other 34 games against Cleveland, New York, Tampa, Texas, and Toronto that would give them 30-32 wins.

Aaaaahhhhhh!! Salisbury - brings back many good memories of going there as a kid for a week and hanging out at the cottage & going down to the nickel arcade. Went back a few years ago - WOW, that placed has changed!!! Still had to have the fried clams though!! Nice contest, I'd love to see those perkies out on the boat!! I think the Sox finish the final 54 at a 34-20 clip finishing the season with 101. The rest the regulars on the final day and loose to Baltimore so their final regular season victory is on the 27th.

    Weekendhacker...

Was glad to see you "open the memory gate" of Salisbury. I too reveled in that place as a kid. The wooden roller coaster, the dodgem cars the Ferris wheel near the beach, and yes, how I loved those nickel pinball machines, especially the baseball ones where you could "time" the flipper and hit home run after home run up that little metal ramp.

How's this for memory lane????...The Frolics, where I saw Paul Anka when he was a mere 18 years old, and Johnny Mathis who was stranger in person and a ton of others I did not see, but passed through this historic, but sadly long gone venue. Theresa Brewer and Jerry Mahoney (the ventriloquist) comes to mind. In it's day it was a great place to enjoy...now a mere shell of long ago...sad to see it gone. I also remember paying a dime to go over the bridge into Hampton.

Those pepper steaks? Well, if you weren't there it's a hard thing to describe. Shame the place has simply disappeared, like so many other wonderful venues in NE !!!

I could not believe Francoma let Wakefield pitch the 6th inning.

He cost Wake the win. You could see he was out of gas in the 5th.

Thank God for Ellsbury 2 nights in a row.

And I once thought Ellsbury would be traded!! Don't think that's gonna happen. Wow, amazing to put one out to straight away center field for the Back to Back walk-off honors!!

As for Wakefield, I think he needs to consider his retirement options in the next month or so...get off the stage while the fans are still cheering and life is good. What point to stay longer? Surely he has enough coin to live quite well for the remainder of his life.

I always liked Masterson and was sorry to see him go. No doubt he must have mixed emotions about pitching in Fenway even though he's been gone for a while. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

It's just after 11PM in Atlanta and the temperature is still 93 degrees!! This is just crazy. I truly feel for the elderly and those who don't have AC, gotta be a bear in this heat. The actual temperature tomorrow is into the low 100s, very rare for us...couple in the heat index and we may be setting some serious records. It just grabs you when you walk outside, nasty stuff. One more month and we'll be on a nice downward trend to the 80s.

Ellsbury's homer was amazing last night. It just looked so effortless and for him to go down and get a ball that low in the zone and still drive it all the way out in Fenway's very deep center field . . . well, let's just say I was impressed.

Only 8 hits, with 6 LOBs, A-Gon and Salt 0-4. Bases loaded and toasto. Those are the highlights of the game.

Didn't ya just love it when the 3 clowns in the Yankees outfield all game together for the group victory bump? Read my mind on that one...can't print it.

Yup, it's Saturday, screwed on the 4PM game again!!! imageimage

I'm a thousand miles from Fenway...hottest rivalary in the Universe, what do I get to watch? Phillies - Giants. Who ever decided that was the better game to watch is insane, or has over-dosed..

I may well be spared the wrath of El Toado numero uno. May the bats wake up and toast the Bronx Bozos...I'll surf the channels and peek at scores from time to time. At least the game is on ESPN tomorrow night at 8PM.

We don't need the national coverage. If no national coverage then we get all the games on NESN so the only time we lose our coverage is on Saturdays which $uck$ big time.

Great game today with Ellsbury getting 6 rbi's and Crawford getting 4 hits. Lackluster pitched a gutsy game and came out ok.

Wasn't aware you were complaining about the package. That makes things a little different. I thought you were complaining that you simply were forced to watch Giants-Phils on tv instead of the Sox game because they didn't pick it up.

Goot...if you took a few minutes to think before you posted you wouldh've seen that I couldn't give a rat's A$$ less about NATIONAL coverage, it's about MY coverage. The Red Sox don't need any national coverage, they have a more than adequate following. I had to "watch" the game on my Droid and caught a paltry sampling on "bonus coverage" and saw maybe one inning and the guy dropping all his Heineken on the field.

Was there a hotter game telvised today? What rivalry is greater than Red Sox - Yankees, especially in Fenway Park? NO game, NO day, ANY day. The choices I had in my Directv package were games of absolutely no value to me. I have been screwed out of a bunch of games over the years on Saturdays...yet I can see other games. If I'm paying for a service, ALL games should be available to me, not just shown in certain segments of the country. It royally pi$$e$$ me off when I get the Saturday hosing!!

FWIW, my first game at Fenway Park was in July of 1952, been a Red Sox fan for a long, long, long time.

I remember sitting around the radio listening to the games as long ago as the late 40's even when some of the "live" broadcasts were sent in

on telegraph and were then broadcast on the radio. I also remember going to Boston Braves games at Braves field with my father prior to

1950. I agree with you on being upset when I cant get the Red Sox. If they are going to sell that sports package then it should be complete.

I have heard the same complaint from a lot of people and not just Red Sox fans.

    Pitboss...

Oh those Summers in New England !!! Used to have a small transistor radio that I'd have on my bike, or at the beach in Hampton or Salisbury listening to the Red Sox games.

I guess those memories is what has prompted me to have a complete collection of 1955 Topps. One is ranked 14th best on the Registry, the other 37th, with 6 cards to go to finish. Don't ask why I have two...just too many PSA 7s I had left over from upgrades and a couple of sweet multi-card deals.

Like you, I got to see in person every player in that set, from Williams to Jensen, Parnell, Brewer and Consolo. Sammy White was the catcher then. Jim Pagliaroni was the bullpen catcher and I once called out his name and he waved back to me...big thrill for a little kid then. Of course many players from that set came through Fenway, saw a bunch of them play, albeit from the bleachers...then 75 cents a ticket.

You are probably the only guy on this board that will understand this Hi neighbor, have a gansett. Oh those Curt Gowdy days of long ago and far away!!! SWEET.

    Best,
    Al

PS Haven't given up on the ABQ visit and Chaco Canyon, just got a few priorities to nail here first. I will let you know when and if we do it...steaks on me.

Naraganset beer out of Rhode Island and Curt Gowdy, probably one of the greatest sports announcers of all time. As far as the Boston Braves

go it was Spawn, Sain, and pray for rain. I do remember some of that stuff. I even had a lot of baseball cards including some of the good ones

but during one of my many moves they got lost.

I'd say lol. Sorry I pissed you off... I didn't even mean it THAT seriously at all but no worries. This is one of those times where a comment doesn't translate very well in the written word.

I meant it as they are on national tv all the time so if you are the average person that does not have the tv package you get plenty of opportunity to see them, and they are talked about a lot on Sportscenter, Baseball Tonight, etc... Sorry again for the confusion.
