I think the most important point of all that yada, yada, yada is (as reported by Mint News Blog) :
- "No representatives of the United States Mint were present at the hearing."
In 2010, only 1,634 Uncirculated versions of the Jane Pierce First Spouse bullion coin were sold and 3,180 of the Proof version. Setting a high threshold to entry discourages collectors to build sets and continue collecting for the duration of a multi-year program.
I think her mintage figures are wrong for the above: 1634 For the uncirculated version of the Jane Pierce.
Also the Gold Spouse Series is minted by demand. If the demand is not their the mint is wasting their time minting more than necessary and will have to melt all the excess.
Figure do my first post on this thread since have read every page with this saga and want to thank all the contributors. Did the Dillon Gage order today and sent an email asking for receipt confirmation. My Jack Hunt set still shows as not shipped yet while another family member had theirs scheduled to arrive today. AMark wins by far from my experience. I'm still holding out hope APMex will list some, been on their waiting list since 12/9 and kicking myself for not getting a set earlier from them as I almost ordered one at the time.
Mu JHCB set is in transit and another family member has their's still listed at FedEX as "information received" with no shipping or movement. When my family member emailed JH today they received a reply saying don't worry. Shipment will be made by the end of this month on the remainders and the initial FedEx notice was sent in error.

Has anybody opened a Jack Hunt set yet to report on what they found?
I can. Got mine today. They are the worst set I own. They come in a small individual manilla bubble packets. The best one is Hot Springs (has a slight mirror), otherwise all are almost satin finish like no mirror. My other sets are Apmex, MTB, A-mark. Again disappointed, but still bought below spot so at least there is melt value. They don't even come in Air-Tights. Had to order them today.

I set an "Alert Me" at APMEX back when this all stared, and have yet to receive one.
I keep getting e-mails from them touting PM's.
Today I got one titled "Silver Breaks $40 As Investors Seek Alternatives". I C&P'ed that title and sent it to them with the message, "And I'm still waiting on an "Alert Me" for an America The Beautiful bullion set!"
The following was their reply:
"Thank you for your inquiry.
Regarding the America the Beautiful sets, we will be getting in approximately 2,000 sets, each set with five coins for the 2010 year. However, there are a few unanswered questions regarding the coin sets and we are waiting to obtain this information. Please be patient as we receive the clarification on the distribution and receive the coins we have ordered. As of now, we do not have any further information regarding the pricing and the release date for these coins. I apologize for the delay on these coins.
Have a great day.

Are they waiting to see if they can now sell them for more than spot?
I just opened my JH set. Luck (or unluck) of the draw no doubt, but they totally sucked. Only the MH will go in for grading w/a (slim) hope of a 69. The rest, perhaps one 67, two 66 and a 62. Sucks.
Is there any personal info in the Jack Hunt box that selling as Sealed wouldn't be a good idea?
No, you should be fine just a small letter that say's To our valued customers. Thanks for buying blah blah. It should be noted that the US mint ships these 5 oz coins in tubes of 10 resulting in imperfections completely out of our control We cherry picked (I added that last part) Please remeber these coins are sold as bullion, not numismatic pieces. Please note: the coins are packed in bubble evelopes for shipping only and are not intended for long term storage. if you have question contact us. I think this would be a good set to sell on ebay unopened. No personal info in the box.

I know what ya mean, bro. Gotta ration.
I drank a Warsteiner in apprehension more than anything before opening the JHCB set. - AND - the JHCB set is mediocre at best upon opening.
Couple of 68 mirrors, two more a wee bit dull and one dog with white crap on GW's curly hair. OH WELL, into the stack it goes.
Can't help but think the long delay for JHCB to sell might mean the coins were cherrypicked before packaging?

Depends. I did and I am in the black. Since it was ebay/paypal, I was able to use my credit card (2% back). Then, I used that Mr Rebates (3% back + $5 for signing up). I also get ebay bucks to use now (another 2%). It brought my price on the pucks down to $948.50ish.

Apologies if this has already been answered (dang gray matter!), but has PCGS changed their grading from DMPL to just DM, or is there still a difference?

An update to my earlier post re sending an email to DG about their ordering process:
I got a reply from Mitch at DG yesterday, suggesting I call him or he would call me. So, I called him. Very nice guy, said if I emailed the order form to him, he would guarantee my order. I wired the funds after emailing the order and got his reply with my order # and he was going to try to send it out yesterday. Excellent customer service on his part.
I don't think I'm talking out of church, but he said this ATB distribution was "new to them" and they weren't prepared for the volume of orders. Take it for what it is as I don't have prior experience like other posters, but it satisfied me greatly the way he took a personal interest in filling my order.
So now, I've got Ftrade and DG orders on the way, plus an NGC MS68 ER from the Bay on the way.
DG called me previous Friday. Their customer service is very polite. The woman who called was nice and I decided, given the price of Ag to get my second set. My funds were deducted yesterday and I am awaiting the coins soon. Just wonder if they are coming in airtites or bags?

Neither. They come in undersized flips - at least mine did.
<< <i>What is the condition of the coins from Dillon Gage? >>
Based on my limited sampling, not great. Only two of the five I received are suitable for grading IMO. The Mt Hood is a clear DMPL and will go 68 or 69, the Yosemite will go 68 PL or DMPL (the obv is borderline DMPL); the rest were trash. The most disheartening was the Yellowstone, which is a clear DMPL on both sides (flawless 69 on the Yellowstone side), but has an inch long scratch in the field to the left of George...

>>
I don't get it. Just sell them off and move onto the more profitable 2011s. Unless they're already gone....

<< <i>Figure do my first post on this thread since have read every page with this saga and want to thank all the contributors. >>
1. Stand in line only, but you can't camp overnight.
2. Order online with paypal and surprise packaging awaits you.
3. All refunds will accompany your Pucks : )
4. To order, we will be needing your Social Security Number and a small drop of blood. Thank you.
5. Place your order, but if you try to communicate with us, we will take your money and....that's it....we will take your money.
6. We will be selling all of our 27 sets of 2010 ATB coins to our exclusive list of those that emailed about four and a half months ago.
7. We need this very, very, very, important form filled out first along with a large jump through this unpleasant hoop and we will only take CASH.....you hear me.....CASH, unless you would like to wait about a month and we will sell you some on Ebay using Paypal.......???????
8. We are sold out...thanks for asking...please don't call anymore...
9. We'll call you, don't call us.
10. We are still trying to figure out what the US Mint means by ....."Sell to the Public". I mean, does that mean the planet Earth only???
(Good luck and there might be multiple answers for each clue.)
<< <i>Well, however purchased the sets from MTB about two weeks ago has just broken even in silver spot. >>
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Great post. Trosen, you've summed up the AP sales nicely.
I didn't see a reference to this on their website. Appreciate the response in advance -- or a link for clarification.

<< <i>Apologies if this has already been answered (dang gray matter!), but has PCGS changed their grading from DMPL to just DM, or is there still a difference?
I didn't see a reference to this on their website. Appreciate the response in advance -- or a link for clarification. >>
DM only shows on the orders and certs pages.
DMPL shows on the label.
No doubt your sister thread will be siphoning attention from over here soon.
You ready for the onslaught, or do ya think there's enough puckn'erds to keep both threads hummin'?
Sad lot, aren't we? AK (Puckn'erd)

Cheers!

<< <i>DG called me previous Friday. >>

What is the condition of the coins from Dillon Gage?
<< <i>What is the condition of the coins from Dillon Gage? >>
Based on my limited sampling, not great. Only two of the five I received are suitable for grading IMO. The Mt Hood is a clear DMPL and will go 68 or 69, the Yosemite will go 68 PL or DMPL (the obv is borderline DMPL); the rest were trash. The most disheartening was the Yellowstone, which is a clear DMPL on both sides (flawless 69 on the Yellowstone side), but has an inch long scratch in the field to the left of George...

I initially made the thread as a joke. (pre-thread :: pre-orders)
If it gets the posts instead of this one, I'll try to keep the OP up to date.
either way it doesn't matter.

Most of the guys were wholesale only, now they have 3000+ individuals to deal with selling 5 coins at a time.
No, they aren't used to it.
That's why I cut them some slack.
that great ( no mirrors probably 67 at best).
I will keep the 2 good ones and make a set of the not so good ones and see if I can sell them to a local dealer for spot.
Still glad I opened them as I got 2 good ones out of it.
Now I will try to find a replacement set after I sell those bad ones off.
I went to a local dealer with my 3 trash coins and 2 more trash coins to make it a 5 coin set and got $1100 cash for it which i am quite happy
with. Now I can get another set with the money. Alway good to get a profit.
Fidelitrade package opening will be when I feel the mojo, the stars are all aligned and the Mayan calender says it's time.
Which is probably tomorrow. >>
Ok Are we gonna open up the fidelitrade"s Tonight Or do We leave them sealed epcjimi1 you open yours first woohoooo 10 puck weekend
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.

Thanks for the idea of selling my set local Tommy I like profits. I not only got rid of my 3 bad ones from Hunt but 2 more from a previous buy.
Also sent 8 off to PCGS for grading without the 1st strike designation. Only cost $38.95 plus $25 for express mail to get it there.
<< <i>Still waiting on my jack hunt delivery today but it sounds like they're cherry picked like I was afraid they would be.[/q
Cherry picked is right, at least for me. I certainly got the pits. Of the at least 14 sets that I've purchased this was the only one w/no mice coins.]
