Made my first trade! Somebody wanted my 1991 Rob Dibble and gave me a 1990 Cecil Espy! Figured I wouldn't have either card shipped, so what the hell.

Frank White 1975 - bought two jumbo 36 card packs this morning from target...got one redemption
  • My second 100 from tntnorthj yeiled nothing spectacular. Nothing older than 1961, nothing newer than 1974, save a 1978 Lee Mazelli. One interesting card was the Paul Popovich. They say its version B. Is this the more expensive/rare version? Probably the best of the 2nd 100 was a 1973 Eddie Mathews Braves Manager team card.

Sorry, the 'B' variation is the airbrushed version which is the most common. In fact, it's so common, PSA 9s sell for under $20 and 8's will be lucky to sell for enough to cover the grading fee.

No salt rubbage...This is easily in my top 10 of collecting things. I think the whole premise is genius, I love typing in the code and seeing what I get. And to be accurate I've actually got 269 cards redeemed, 5 more if you count the dups! And I have 100 more on the way. image

me too, even knowing that saturday and yesterday they were stuck on the 70s, I couldn't help but enter my codes in. I did get a 58 during that run but most were 65, 66, 71-76.

At one point I noticed some 63s getting redeemed so I jumped in that line and got 63 Pirates team card.

Jonesing for more right now but I think my Heritage shipment will help get my mind off of these

I have done so well cherry picking jumbo packs from the local store

2 packs arod bat auto 13/50

2 packs pedroia auto, f+kadome jersey

think I am going to go buy a jumbo box..or you guys think that arod was the big case hit?

I've been having a great time cracking Target cereal and blaster boxes, and making my money back (and then some) selling the patch, gold chrome, and CYMTO "original back" cards. Not only have I made a profit, I've also been able to keep all of my TM code cards and base/insert cards. The "and then some" part came from me selling a Pie Variation for over $70. image

I have been getting murdered with my target blaster boxes
  • jeffcbayjeffcbay Posts: 8,950 ✭✭✭✭
I've been sticking with the cereal boxes for the last several days. I love the 1:1 TM card, and the GC cards sell really well right now. Nothing like the Platinum Chrome. This will be short lived, but I struck when the iron was hot. I was one of the first sellers to list the GC cards on ebay, and some of them sold for well over $9.99 (the cost of the cereal box).

image Yes and the cost is ridiculous!

How much does it cost to ship my cards?
Shipping costs vary depending on whether you’re using the US Postal Service or UPS. If you request your cards to be shipped via the US Postal Service, the cost is

    $2.92 for the first card
    $0.53 for each additional card

I sure hope I do not hurt anyone's feelings but Imho The stuff people have been redeeming on here would not be worth shipping back for the going rates.

Probably the outcome of the grades of the 1950's - 1960's cards are going to be Vg/ex to ex/mt. With commons going for 50 cents to a dollar . Is it worth the time and effort of shipping? Feedback from other board members on this issue please...

Edited to add I sure hope Topps is sending New Toploaders and penny sleeves with the cards! image

I suspect you're right, but here's a proposal for the board:

I, for example, am working on mid-grade 1965 set as a back-burner project. I also am toying with the idea of doing the same for 1973 - the last year I really collected as a kid. For me, a lot of 65's that others don't want to redeem would probably fit quite well in my set and would be worth the $.53 to get. Once you get past the 1st card, I think $.53 a card to fill a mid-grade vintage set is pretty reasonable.

So, I'd like to ask anyone not planning on redeeming a 65 to PM me. Assuming the cards come in Ex or better, I'd be happy to beg them off you.

I'm not gonna mind paying Topps 50 bucks or so to send me all my crap. Everything from 80 and earlier is coming home with me at some point
  • So far 2 of my cards are worth redeeming- a 1952 common and a 1973 Willie Mays. Since we don't know the condition, it's worth a few dollars.
  • As of 8pm 151K redemptions
    1970: 3449
    1971: 5878
    1972: 6018
    1973: 10608
    1974: 5440
    1975: 6058
    1976: 1319
    1977: 1462
    1978: 1770
    1979: 1450
    1980: 1449
(and just for fun 1987: 16862)

I'd say if you want to start building a '73 set - redeem away!
  • and not a single one out of those 10K+ is the schmidt rookie!!
  • I just spend over $140 on retail packs from Wal-Mart in search of that stupid Melvin Mora card, to no avail. Never mind the $65 I spent at Target. I'm done ripping this stuff for now! I'll be buying redemption lots and completing my Topps Town set on-line(lol, got to have fun sometime).
  • still no mora error, finally foudn the cereal boxes, but after I had bought 3 blasters

extremely sour right now, everyone stay away! 3 blasters and 4 cereal boxes later, no autos. no relics, one gold card anything else worth $$ in these? I am not sure if I should bother entering codes to end my night...seems like all 70's card but who knows...maybe one more jumbo box and I am through.....aint that always the case image
  • unbelieveable! In three hours, about 1500 cards redeemed and 796 are '73! More than 1/2 of the cards from one year? Hello Topps, hello? Kick the machine 'cause its in a loop.
  • looks like a 56 mantle popped in there, I got 3 73's (Tug McGraw)and 2 75's (jesus ALou)

  • Don't get your hopes up for that 52 Mantle. There including these giveaway cards in series 2 and in the update packs this year.

I might have to pre order a case of Series 2 since these code cards have been so hot.

There's a small piece of me that wonders/hopes if Topps has somehow decided to both pass out the star power very slowly and to target those items to smaller players instead of the big fish that redeem 100's of items. I can imagine them wanting most of the star cards landing in the hands of "the little guys" instead of dealers.

we will either see a peak, or more likely a crash in these redemptions once the cards start getting shipped. Iam certain most redeemers have no idea what it costs to ship the cards, and after March 15th we will see the quality of the cards...

  • This is ridiculous. I purchased a case of jumbo Topps and pulled 60 redemption cards. I opened 5 boxes and did the redemptions on February 16. Got a variety of cards but a larger group of 2005 and 1987 cards (12 out of 50).

Today I opened my last box and just redeemed the last 10 cards, 2 from 1979 and 8 from 1980. Pretty obvious to me that the numbers on the cards are NOT directly linked to a specific card. From reading the earlier threads, I wish I had redeemed these on the 1973/1975 day.

  • From the looks of things, I redeemed all mine at just the right time. I entered 50 in on Saturday afternoon and all were in the 59-75 range with the majority being 60's. Looks like all of the redemptions have gone downhill since then. I've got another 60 that I'm holding on to for when another run of 50's or 60's pos up.

And then I redeemed my Million Card Giveaway card. I'm willing to trade but come hard with the offers because it will take something awesome to pry this out of my hands. Read 'em and weep boys!

Pretty obvious to me that the numbers on the cards are NOT directly linked to a specific card.

Perhaps. But I'm not entirely sure. I redeemed a half dozen last week when the 80's, 90's, and 2000's were showing up, and of course, I pulled mostly these, except for one "oddball" card which was a late 60's HOFer. Also, somebody mentioned here earlier that when everyone was pulling mostly 73's and 75's, a '56 Mantle showed up. Therefore, it might be that in most cases, the codes are not linked to a specific card like you say, but that for the expensive star and rookie cards, there somehow is a link. Perhaps a "star" code opens a pre-determined star card, or the code causes a star card to be randomly chosen from a pool of the more expensive cards. I'm just guessing based on a very small population size, but it would explain why every now and then a more expensive older card appears out of the blue.
