I have been checking in every day now, I haven't seen any good cards. I have noticed that the recently pulled list is way behind what is actually pulled. I entered a code and didn't see the card I pulled for a long time.
So there was that one good run of 50's stuff way back, but then has there been anything else decent?
I havent seen any "runs" since the 50's run where a bunch of people cashed in, there are some good cards, but if Topps did buy at least ONE of each card there is a ton of good cards still to pull. MY guess is they bought some years complete sets, some sets without stars for other years, some "lots" of star players ie 1988 there are not too many commons but every card seems to be a schmidt, ryan, or all star card
When I look at the 1956 mantle it shows related cards, the 1952 Mantle shows but it doesn't show as unlocked. Got the feeling related just meant other cards of the same player?

I'm now going to see how far I can get on building the 1974 Yankees Team Set. Currently I have Celerino Sanchez and Mel Stottlemyre, so I've got a way to go... Just post a few offers for Nettles and Muson (also '76 Munson and Lyle).
Here's what I've got left to trade:
Billy O'Dell 1964 Billy O'Dell / Pitcher / San Francisco Giants Card Number: 18
New York Mets Team Card 1964 New York Mets Team Card / / New York Mets Card Number: 27
John Stephenson 1966 John Stephenson / Catcher / New York Mets Card Number: 17
Terry Harmon 1973 Terry Harmon / Second Base / Philadelphia Phillies Card Number: 166
Wilbur Howard 1976 Wilbur Howard / Outfield / Houston Astros Card Number: 97
Ken Griffey, Jr. 1994 Ken Griffey, Jr. / Outfield / Seattle Mariners Card Number: 400
Jose Valentin 1994 Jose Valentin / / San Diego Padres Card Number: 251

With the contests beginning next month and the fact that I have only 1-2 cards out of 21 really worth taking out; I'm keeping them in for a while in hopes of
1) Getting some upgrade trades even if just in small increments
2) Adding to my collection during the year with a few more packs bought and a series 2 box or two, etc.
3) What Ted said in the post below -- I forgot to type in that reason; but that related to the 1st sentence of my post

If you do a search for Mantle, 1956. Then click the picture, it will show you, supposedly, other Mantles that have been unlocked. The 52 and 57 show up, along with a bunch of others. BUT if you do search for just the 1952 Mantle, it says not found. So anyway, it's a bit confusing. I could see Topps blocking the 52 from trade offers (because the person who has it would be crushed with 1988 Al Nipper type offers for it), but I would think the 57 would be open to trades. So it's weird. Not sure what's up with this.

Not sure who he is, but he must've realized that a 1987 Topps Kirby Puckett for a 1953 Topps Joe Nuxhall wasn't happening, so it seems like he is doing a lot more of just trying to trade up 1 year at a time now. I still have to turn down his trades as most of my cards are what I want them to be at this point, but he is a lot more in line with reality now.
I'd like to find brondeau - anyone know who he is? He is also making me offers in the right ball park, but they are the wrong guys. It's like RC was saying. I wonder, and I'm sure this has been mentioned; that because today is the 1st day to redeem cards; that the system is being an upgrade to make sure the servers can handle the potential overload of people pulling out their cards they want.
As I have said, in my specific case, it is worth it to leave the cards in for the reasons Ted and myself discussed earlier. For others; it is time to pull them out.

I wouldn't pull them out immediately. Their servers and employees are more than likely to screw something up in the next couple days when they get all those orders at once.
Hey guys, sorry for so many offers in the Topps Million. I'm sure most of you have received multiple offers from me. I only have 57 cards so far and my plan is keep trading up 1 year at a time for the 1950's cards, 2 years ahead for the 1960's cards and 3 years ahead for the 1970's cards. I've worked up to (2) 1952's, (1) 1954 and a 1955 (which I got in a trade with another member here). Has Topps ever done anything like this before? I was wondering about condition of the cards, if Topps has done this in the past.

socalguy1967 >>
Hey Chuck,
Yes, Topps did something similar in 1991 where they inserted vintage cards directly into packs. Those were much harder to pull though, I think I read at one time like one card per case.
As far as condition, my guess would be the cards, at least older ones will be in the PSA 3-6 range. I am assuming this by looking at the Heritage Buy Backs I own and have seen. But that is just a guess.
I just tried to arrange for delivery of some of my cards. In some cases, next to card was the message, "All your cards have been delivered." When I tried to get all the cards I checked delivered, I got something like, "Total number of cards not equal to 1." Any ideas?
Follow up. The cards I checked no longer show up in "My Collection". Will I be billed later? Will the cards be sent? Or have they gone to that great black hole in the Atlantic that swallowed all those 1952 cards? I tried to contact customer service, but, hey, this is Toops.

I got some sort of Application error. That's what i get for trying to take out two cards I really wanted to take possession of. Who knows where they are now. They are no longer in my account and I can't get through any of the shipping screens. It's all messed up with server errors.

I still have to turn down his trades as most of my cards are what I want them to be at this point, but he is a lot more in line with reality now.
As I have said, in my specific case, it is worth it to leave the cards in for the reasons Ted and myself discussed earlier. For others; it is time to pull them out.

Rich

<< <i> Has Topps ever done anything like this before? I was wondering about condition of the cards, if Topps has done this in the past.
Chuck
socalguy1967 >>
Hey Chuck,
Yes, Topps did something similar in 1991 where they inserted vintage cards directly into packs. Those were much harder to pull though, I think I read at one time like one card per case.
As far as condition, my guess would be the cards, at least older ones will be in the PSA 3-6 range. I am assuming this by looking at the Heritage Buy Backs I own and have seen. But
that is just a guess.
<< <i>Follow up. The cards I checked no longer show up in "My Collection". Will I be billed later? Will the cards be sent? Or have they gone to that great black hole in the Atlantic that swallowed all those 1952 cards? I tried to contact customer service, but, hey, this is Topps. >>
I got some sort of Application error. That's what i get for trying to take out two cards I really wanted to take possession of. Who knows where they are now. They are no longer in my account and I can't get through any of the shipping screens. It's all messed up with server errors.

<< <i>I'd like to find brondeau - anyone know who he is? He is also making me offers in the right ball park, but they are the wrong guys. It's like RC was saying. It's so hard when you only get the one shot to make an offer and if it's rejected you have no idea why and what it would take to revise and get it done. >>
This is why Topps should allow counter offers. There are times when the offers are close, but not quite right. Heck, we used to do stuff like that as kids.

<< <i>I wouldn't pull them out immediately. Their servers and employees are more than likely to screw something up in the next couple days when they get all those orders at once.
I'm gonna wait a week or 2 before I do anything >>
If only I had heeded my own advice.
Last night I wanted to see what the shipping cost would be to have them send my 52 Hi #. Wasn't even gonna order it yet.
Of course, the server glitched and my card disappeared along with everyone elses.
At least it was only 1 card but it was my best one
from the topps site
"Also, if your cards have "disappeared" they are not lost. You may not be able to see them at the moment, but they will be restored when we have all of our technical issues resolved. Thanks again for your patience."
<< <i>Kind of Funny... shipping went into effect yesterday and if you search today only 10 mantles and most are modern. My guess is that most of the high dollar cards are now out of the system and most of the remaining ones will be gone by weekend. >>
Lots of good ones are gone now--I think there are only two Rizzutos left, maybe 3 or 4 Sniders left. I know the '54 Snider is gone now
