A new slab that will have unique embedded bits on each slab. And, when we do a search on pcgs.com for any coin by serial number the image of both sides and the slab with its unique slab embeds is clearly shown to stop any chance of fake coins or slabs. Oh, and you will grade automotive paintings also.
I'm just looking for a new slab with a top label like SEGS and edgeview better than NGC's. Maybe also some revolutionary counterfeit measure built in?
I'm also thinking maybe the registry will start allowing NGC Slabs? (probably not)
Free basic imaging of every coin over a certain $$ value?
Multiple types of submissions on one invoice?
Details listing of problems for Genuine coins? Not just the worst one.
A conservation service similar to NCS with some kind of twist? i.e. if a submitted coin has signs of PVC, call the customer and ask if it's ok to dip in acetone so the coin will be gradable?
PCGS to purchase ANACS, SEGS and or ICG?
PCGS to become the new offical grading service of the ANA?
Is there a better way to remove the nickels from the hobby that were struck from deteriorated dies? By requiring the top 10 registry participants to have their coins regarded every 1 or 2 years, this would help bring many of those coins up to today’s new grading standards. Jefferson nickels that sold over the weekend in Heritage auctions were the 1940-S PCGS MS67FS which can easily be seen was struck from deteriorated dies. Also the 1961 and 1963-D, two coins that are clearly not FS nickels. These coins and many others continue to trade at thousands of dollars and they are not high quality FS coins. In the poll that I recently conducted, it clearly showed that 2/3’s of the voters agreed that most collectors do not possess the knowledge to properly grade a coin. What good is the grade guarantee if people don’t know how to grade a coin? How will they be able to improve the quality of coins placed in PCGS’s holders and their registry sets?
Regards, Leo
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
I think we'll see some sort of gatewaying between collectors and dealers via CCE. Want some legitimate offers on your coins but don't want to risk an auction? Register for something via CCE put slab numbers up as "available" and wait for offers. This could/would likely allow for images of the item as well.
One of the goals is probably to increase market share. Maybe PCGS will offer each member a certain number of free crossover submissions for NGC, ANACS, and possibly ICG slabbed coins. The exact number could be "tiered" to membership levels or the number of other coins submitted. The immediate effect would be an expense, but the long term effect would likely benefit PCGS.
PCGS will become the official grader for the US Mint and the mint will offer most products already graded. New US mint packaging will of course then fit pcgs slabs. And/or some other countries mints
Pcgs is going to warehouse their graded coins(if the owner desires) and offer them in lots to wall street. Either Pcgs will hold title or the owner can designate Pcgs to act on the owners behalf.
Since settling the Langbord lawsuit is beyond the power of anyone [at least at this time]; my second prediction is:
PCGS [in partnership with some ship wreck recovery company] has located a sunken treasure ship [loaded with coins in amounts beyond all previous treasure ships combined] in the Pacific Ocean just outside of the territorial limits of California and ths USA. The wreck is sitting on a section of ocean floor that is quickly rising [due to plate tectonics along the rim of fire] to the surface. The shipwreck and the ocean floor upon which it sits will soon be sitting above the sea on a newly formed island. A sealed Federal Court lawsuit filed years ago in the US Federal District Court in Santa Ana [a short drive up the 55 from the PCGS offices] has been resolved in favor of PCGS and its partner, awarding all of the loot to them. Further, legal manuevers in the sealed court case also confirms that the newly formed island on which the shipwreck sits belongs to PCGS and its partner.
As a result, PCGS will soon be moving its headquarters out of The O.C. and to the new "Isla PCGS".
PCGS operations will begin in a new state of the art facility. A boon to PCGS and its partner is that Isla PCGS is no longer subject to US and California taxation, nor taxation by any governmental entity anywhere. Revenues increase dramatically. A resort facility is established on Isla PCGS at which PCGS members can, if they choose, travel to and stay a week. While on vacation, submissions can be dropped off and picked up, seminars can be attended and fun can be had in the sun and surf. International coins shows will be held on Isla PCGS on a monthly basis.
A modern day version of Mr. Rourke and Tatoo will be on hand to welcome all visitors to the island as they disembark from boat or seaplane.
The principals of PCGS can move away from the US Mainland and get some peace and quiet without having to mingle with the general population. Work can be done without interruption on Coinfacts and all of the other neat things happening at our host.
<< <i>Given the Personal Touch thread I expect the change will be in the grading area indicating low, mid, or high end positioning for the grade. >>
Overall, this could be a good idea for the hobby. Grading is subjective. Some coins are stronger or weaker for a grade than others, that's a fact. Applying a "high end", "perfect for grade", and "low-end" to the coins will likely reduce the effect of buy-backs, and save PCGS money overall and long term.
Well, I have only seen it now, and I guessed at first that PCGS, NGC and ANACS will merge (that´s the big one guys!) but it seems the member called STONE got it first!
A system where images are uploaded to PCGS for review. If the pictures pass the first stage of grading, then they are submitted to PCGS for final review. After the final review, the coins are then holdered in a new state-of-the art slab.
This would benefit the coin community because submittal to the first stage of grading (the photo stage) will be less costly, and therefore save on grading fees (especially on BB'ed coins.) It eliminates the necessity of shipping coins back and forth that might never get holdered anyway. If the coins pass the first stage of grading, then the grading fees for the first stage will be applied to the second stage. IE it costs $5 to submit a coin for image review. If the review is sucessful, then the submitter will have to pay an additional $25 of the total $30 regular submission fee.
This benefits PCGS because logistics would be minimized, thus limiting the overhead required by shipping, holdering and handling so many coins. They would likely make the same amount (or more) money and will be able to grade more coins in less time.
If you don't agree with the review process of a particular coin in phase one, you simply pay for a "physical review" a $40 service. (Similar to the current standard grading system.) Or they can be reviewed by one of the PCGS authorized dealers.
Multi-spectral imaging analysis for counterfeit detection, possibly including the use of light wavelengths outside the normal visible spectrum. This is similar to some satellite imaging applications to locate minerals, pollutants, etc.

A lot of good guesses......my logic is the following...it has to be either 1) a new service or 2) an enhanced/changed service or 3) a change in the competitive landscape.......
Guesses - A new point scale...1-100, decimal points 62.3, etc. - A new holder type...smaller, anti counterfeit, multicoin holders - A new criteria for premium coins - Medals, etc being graded - All coins have pictures taken for posterity and ??? - PL and DMPL designated on non-Morgan business strike coins?

That was my idea awhile back Billet! So I get the $1k
So given the current issues with counterfeits and doctoring ...
Guess No. 12: a system that is able to analyze the surface of the coin for characteristics associated with authentic coins.
Guess No. 13: a system that is able to analyze the surface of the coin for "doctoring".
Guess 14: A combination of Guesses 12 and 13.
And back to one of the PCGS goals (or at least HRH's goals) over 20 years ago .... Guess 15: A way to bring the cost of grading and slabbing as low as $3-5 per coin (maybe even lower)
Since you have left the helm, PCGS has become less and less fun/collector friendly. Coin collecting is still a hobby isn't it? The masses want you back steering the ship ...
Reasonable: 1. Online submission. 2. PCGS Classroom - Class that teaches collectors to grade/determine counterfeit coins. 3. PCGS World Coins Price Guide. 4. PCGS Online Counterfeit Library. 5. Combined Submission for both World and US coins, same fee structures. 6. PCGS Details Grade for problems coins. 7. PCGS Portal - Like Yahoo, But showing links to all dealers, auctioners, coin businesses, and mints...ect all over the world. 8. PCGS Conservation - PCGS can remove milk/ carbon spots. 9. PCGS Discount - Submit 10, receive on free submission. 10. PCGS Mint/ Proof Set - Owners can submit the entire set, no matter how many coins, for one fee. 11. PCGS Pedigree - Submit your entire collection, and each coin will be certified under your name.
Crazy: 12. PCGS Points - Points for owning coins, owners can redeem points for free grading. 13. PCGS Collection - PCGS acts as a stock broker, evaluates each collection for IPO, then collectors can purchase shares of the collection. 14. Replica Guaranteed - PCGS will remake a limited number of most rare/ popular US coins. Their quality is guaranteed by PCGS. 15. PCGS NT - Professionally tones coins. Guaranteed Attractive! 16. PCGS Grade Scanner - Portable scanner for acurate grading. 17. PCGS declares bankrupt. -> The next big thing alright, but sad sad sad! 18. Bulk grading for same denominations.

Me at the Springfield coin show:
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
PCGS will open up membership to everyone. No need to pay a silver, gold, platinum fee. Anyone who can fill out a form will be able to submit coins. This will enhance the PCGS reputation as the choice of collectors.
Grading fee structure will be redone, with price decreases across the board.
Along the cost-cutting-for-consumers theme, price for coinfacts will be slashed too, making it a viable option for collectors of even modest means. About $50/year sounds right.
PCGS will introduce an online submission form discount (like NGC has) that will exceed the ten percent level across the street.=
By doing all of this, PCGS will encourage many, many more collectors to seek PCGS as their sole TPG.
A better database of all coins that pass into PCGS holders, including high-res shots of all certified coins. This would do wonders for helping to identify counterfeits, wouldn't it? I personally could pick my own coins out of a lineup, having closely inspected the surfaces of each one. It is the computer age, after all. This should be easily implemented.
I also like the idea of an 'invisible' code included on each label.
The iSLAB. A slab that has a small screen and can hook up to your computer or other electronic device that will tell you all the current information about your coin from price to history, owners, mintage population, The image of the coin locked in the iSLAB fits like a puzzle piece an image on the PCGS site. (good luck to the counterfeiters on that one) etc. If it is not it, you should do it anyway it just sounds too cool. Richard

1) PCGS will start it's own traveling grading/buying tour.
2) PCGS.com will have archived auction prices from all the major auction houses, possibly tied to the new photograde page.
3) PCGS will offer a secure storage facility if you want to have your coins sent in for grading and storage or just have them sent in for storage.

The key (code) changes upon transfer of ownership.
