One major problem is that the Mets have virtually nothing at the minor league level to even bargain with to add anyone of note. Minaya and his staff have done a pitiful job at acquiring minor league talent and have essentially run the farm sustem into the ground. Have the Mets been decimated by injuroes? Yes, absolutely. But there is no excuse for how poorly they have been playing of late. The payroll of the remaining players on the active roster is still higher than many other major league teams..the pitching has been absolutely atrocious of late and that part of the team is relatively healthy again right now..

Minaya I think has surprised some after what he did with the Expos/Nats. Maybe the road was made easy for him and he really can't hack it with a bigger team, but that would surprise a lot of people.

The Mets just need to start winning and that would shut up all the Phillies fans.
When the Phillies were in the that 15 out of 19 losing streak(or whatever it was), half of the Phillie "fans" that are here now weren't here talking their crap. The ones that were here were a bit subdued. I'm not singling anyone out or saying it's wrong, it's just how being a fan of a team goes sometimes.

Mets fans - Don't worry about it, I just looked at the standings and you're only 1.0 game out of first place. Being only one game out of first place is not insurmountable by any means and there is plenty of time left in the season to make up that one game, and that one game is really .....
July 24, 2009 Witnesses Confirm Bernazard Bus Incident By BEN SHPIGEL
WASHINGTON — In baseball, the team bus is sort of a misnomer. Players rarely ride it from the hotel before road games, many taking cabs instead, and afterward the seats are only somewhat more full. But several players took the bus last Friday after the Mets were hammered, 11-0, by the Braves in Atlanta. And on that bus, Francisco Rodriguez and Tony Bernazard, the highest-ranking team executive on the trip, engaged in a verbal confrontation that adds to the team’s disarray.
According to people on the bus, Rodriguez made a friendly gesture toward family members of his fellow reliever Pedro Feliciano that Bernazard might have misinterpreted. They argued in Spanish, and the dispute escalated to the point that there seemed to be a danger of a physical altercation, one witness said. But Bernazard backed off, no blows were exchanged and Rodriguez, though upset, walked toward the back of the bus and sat down.
Rodriguez declined to comment after Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to the Nationals, the Mets’ 16th loss in 23 games, and did so again Thursday afternoon in Houston, where the Mets were spending a day off before opening a three-game series Friday.
The Mets did not make any statements Thursday about their ongoing investigation into Bernazard’s conduct during a recent visit to their Class AA Binghamton affiliate, where he reportedly challenged members of the team to a fight in their clubhouse after a game.
Bernazard is at home in New Jersey, where he will remain until the investigation is finished, General Manager Omar Minaya said Wednesday. It remains unclear, though, whether the Mets actually plan to investigate the Binghamton incident or whether they were already aware of what occurred and are simply taking time to decide his fate.
As the team’s vice president for player development, Bernazard oversees the minor league system and regularly travels to check in on the Mets’ affiliates. But he also accompanies the Mets on the road, splitting those trips with Minaya and the assistant general manager John Ricco, who, as scheduled, will be with the team this weekend in Houston.
If the Mets decide not to fire Bernazard, it is still possible that they could diminish his responsibilities or curb his interactions with Mets players, who may take it personally that he ended up in a dispute with one of them.
"...shut out five times this month and nine times this season. In July, the Mets have scored an MLB-low 49 runs and also rank last in homers with four. The longball total through Wednesday was a full seven behind the teams ranked second-to-last: Kansas City, San Diego and Washington."
<< <i>pretty hard to hit homers when your homer hitting players are on the DL.
Or did you expect Jeremy Reed to pick up the slack?

Also, they don't play in a band box like some other teams do.

1. Have a deep bench.
2. Have a dependable minor league system.
As for the band box, well that works against home pitchers as well as benefiting hitters. I think it evens out. Some pitchers don't want to play for the Phillies for that reason.
Most Sillies fans have difficulty reading in the first place, forget about comprehending...
