I thought I would try one. Eddie Yost lives close by, returned in 5 days. He responded to what he did in the off season, he didnt respond to the toughest pitcher to get walked by.

I'm looking at Hadl's price list and it's $20 for a photo or flat yet $30 for a color photo. So, that leads me to believe that he charges $20 to sign a B&W photo and $10 more to sign a color photo? That's completely asinine.

Yeah, it DOES read like that, doesn't it! I guess he thinks a COLOR photo of him is more valuable than a B&W! LOL

I almost wonder if he meant to say that it would be $30 for a signed color photo provided by him?? That would make more sense.

I sent him a minty fresh 83 Topps 2 weeks ago. It appears the ones he has signed have taken a few months. The lack of posted successes in the last 4 months doesn't look promising.

    Hey Doug-

Great stuff with the signed 1969 set. I am working on the AFL guys from that set as well, and am down to only two or three. Not sure if you are purchasing any of the deceased guys, but look out for the 1969 Frank Buncom card. I have been trying to determine for fact if it could have possibly been signed, but still haven't nailed it down for sure. Buncom died in his sleep on September 21, 1969. His 1969 Topps card is a second series card. I do not know when the second series was released that year, but I would be highly skeptical of any signed 1969 Buncom's. Seems to me that the second series would have been released after his date of death. Good luck with the rest. I am looking forward to seeing the scans!

Ken ... yes, you are right, it is cheaper. It's just that when I see HOFers signing for free and then you get letters like this ... I'm not knocking them for charging, just saying it's nice that there are so many other players who sign for free for their fans. (Not looking to debate this issue with anyone, as I know the argument is that many people get autos for free and then sell for a profit ... I realize the players should be entitled to a "piece of the pie".)

Well ... the last couple of days were a bit strange. Received all kinds of responses.

First up is Mr. Andy Pafko. Never before have I purchased a PSA card with the intention of cracking it
to send out for an auto. ANYWAY, I found this real nice looking PSA "6" Pafko rookie at good price so I bought it,
cracked it and sent it to Mr. Pafko. It came back REFUSED. Very disappointed, but when I realized Mr. Pafko was
89 years old, I just hope that he is not very ill.
    image
Here is the card BACK in the slab that I cracked it out of:
    image

Next is an old Met favorite of mine, RON SWOBODA. He wanted money (although reasonable) so I am going
to pass. I emailed him and told him that he should please send back my card. I hope it's still in good shape,
because it was a REAL NICE LOOKING Rookie card!

ROY FACE, who won SEVENTEEN GAMES IN A ROW IN RELIEF in 1959, when he went 18-1 for the Pirates:

    DON SCHWALL
    image

AL LUPLOW, another old time MET and his response to my question:
    imageimage

DENNIS RIBANT, another MET and his response to my question:
    imageimage

Last, but not least, Mr. DAVE PARKS. As you guys know, I am trying to put together the '69 FB set in autographed form. I sent
Mr. Parks a '69 football card to sign, and this is what I got back!!!!!!!!
    image

SOOOOOO, nothing new for my '82 Donruss Baseball Set or '69 FB set, but still some nice autos!

wow, I would send another 69 Doug. I bet it's just a mixup
  • I had to have a conversation with my local post office today. I printed up a 1990 Topps George Bush and tried to get it signe d through his office last year. When it was returned I sent it to his library. Today I came home to find a big yellow envelope with a return address of George Bush crammed into my mailbox. It wasn't bent in half or anything but the mail carrier had to use force to get it in. I tried to minimize the damage in taking it out. My card was returned unsigned but a signed 8 x 10 was enclosed with an inscription someone else had written. The edges were worn due to the cramming in the mailbox. I have complained about books for my daughter being damaged and decided to call again. To my surprise the employee told me to get a larger mailbox. I suggested that mail carriers should not force things into mailboxes. Surprisingly I was asked if I wanted a note to my mail carrier to be left asking him to not force things in my mailbox again and to leave a note asking me to pick them up. I told the employee, "Uh, I have to ask the mail carrier to not damage my stuff?"

Ouch. I have a PO box so generally the post office will not force items into the small box and just leave a yellow slip for pick-up. The ladies that work the counter know me so well they usually have my packages on the counter when they see me enter the office.

Not sure what the deal was today. Then again this is a small town that could lose the post office if/when downsizing occurs. They are good the majority of the time but when something frustrating happens it is usually big. One day I was waiting for a specific card with delivery confirmation and came home to be here when the mail carrier arrived. Was in the house watching for the truck to come by. Carrier put the mail in the box and left. To my surprise there was one of those "sorry we missed you" cards saying I would have to come to the post office on a later date to claim the card. Not the end of the world but it would've taken the same amount of time to knock on the door as it would to fill out the "we missed you" card. I guess I should've been standing by the mailbox when he drove up.
