  • << <i>I spent Wednesday doing my taxes and waiting for my UHR to arrive since it was shipped Monday.

Local Post Office closes at 5p so by 4p I had resigned myself to shipping the sealed box to PCGS for the FS thing

I went out to get something out of my car and near stepped on a box in a plastic bag (in the rain) sitting on my step. No idea when it came, no ringing of the doorbell, nada

Soooooo....Should I relax and just ship the box tomorrow??? I really wanted to see the coin.....

I went for it. This is my hectic 45 min: 1) Had to join PCGS to submit (was going to join anyway)
    2) Open box, admire coin (presentation box is beautiful but a tad excessive)
    3)Print out and complete form
    4) Package coin, wrap box for Registered Mail
    5) Fly to Post Office and got it postmarked at 450pm

Now I can at least admire the box while I wait

A lot of airports have P.O.s open long hours, for future reference. If you absolutely have to have something postmarked, drive to your nearest airport.

I am about to do the same thing. Mine is set for delivery today, sent yesterday. I really wish I knew exactly what is IN the box (receipt, paperwork - ect) so that I could know if anything is missing when it comes back from PCGS. This is the first coin I have had graded, so I have to join first. If anyone here has advice concerning which membership to get, I would appreciate it. I buy very few coins per year, so I think probably Silver....although I think I will also send my 1995-W Gold Eagle 10th Anniversary set in to be graded at the same time....so it might make a difference which membership to get. image

Sorry Imron....you ordered before me and are getting the shaft here. Not fair. Hang in there. image

  • THE MINT SUCKS!!

This is what appeared on the Mint's web site within the last hour:

Unless you are a quickflipper, who really cares about the NONSENSICAL FS designation? The mint has stated that dies go for 500 strikes; therefore true First Strikes are those first off of each die and these continue to be made. Any other such arteficial designation is exactly that.

That being said, I did not order my UHR until the 27th and therefore may wait until the nth of never to see mine....

Well I just got billed for my UHR! right after the first strike deadline passed.

No what do I do with it?

I was gonna submit for 1st strike and sell it, but now I can't. Maybe just try and sell it in the unopened box?

What would you do with it? At least with ordering 12 minutes after it went on sale, I got it for $1195.00 instead of current sale prices.

    I am so bummed.

BILLED has nothing to do with first strike.

WHAT day did USM ship it?

I know that the USM shipped mine today 03/12/09 which makes it ineligible for first strike.

I've never been so furious in my life. The USM knew what 03/11/09 meant, and for them to ship on 03/12 and 03/13 is not only adding insult to injury but downright cruel and evil.

I still don't know what I'm going to do so let me know if you are in the same predicament that I'm in and what you might do as well.

Check the Mint's website tracking or call the 1-800 number. They may not be sending emails anymore now that the website is working.

EDIT: I found out at 10:30 a.m. today that my UHR shipped, and I still don't have a shipping email yet.

I agree, but in the collectible world, "nonsensical" is the norm. Apparently, many buyers must see the FS designation for complete emotional fulfillment. It's a game for winners, and at the moment, I am a willing participant.

When I'd checked the Mint website, and learned they'd shipped 3/11, I called them to confirm it, and was told the email would probably arrive late in the evening. It did, about 10:30, though I didn't learn that until this morning. Been following the Tracking link periodically, and the last notation on the record says "Out For Delivery" from Oakland (CA.) to me at 7:41 AM.

Presumably, that means delivery sometime this morning, as that's typically when I get other UPS deliveries.

If my avatar qualifies as the picture of karma, then that would mean my bad actions pre-determined the bad outcome with the Mint. What bad actions? Or do we have a misunderstanding here?

    DO NOT open it!

    DO NOT open it!

The deadline was 03/11. You can't get it to pcgs before 03/11. PCGS needs to see that it was shipped by the Mint on or before 03/11 by receiving the unopened Mint package.

    Call PCGS. They'll tell ya!

    Oh yeah, congratulations! image

It IS a nice feeling, BUT... it exists, in part, at your expense. I wish I HAD two... would have no problem trading one to you (when the train comes in, EVERYBODY rides!)

I checked with a couple dealers in the area about having them send my coin in to PCGS... one of them told me it's not worth it, 'cause the liklihood of getting a "70" is so low, it wasn't worth the expense.

However, as I check the reports on PCGS, seems to me that of those they've graded, better than 3 of every 4 coins scored a 70... seems to me the odds are pretty good...

    Am I wrong?

In my oh so humble opinion, if you have the money to spend then I would get first strike!!!! How can it possibly hurt to get first strike???? If you don't like it or it comes back at a 65 then you can always take it out of the slab! Again in my humble opinion, I think your dealer is on crack and is NOT looking out for your best interest.

Thank you! I really appreciate it, but in this case it truly is the thought that counts. I could never accept such an exraordinary gesture of generosity. There are way too many people in a worst spot than me!

Keep in mind, I arranged to purchase three of these UHRs for me, my stepfather, and my goddaughter. See, you should have been reading these posts more diligently. image Mine and my stepfather's both shipped today!! So we are both furious and miserable. imageimage However, my goddaughter's made it to PCGS on time so I will be able to see and hold her FS UHR until we sell it for her college this fall which is way more important than a stupid coin !! Unfortunately, I don't think her's will grade better than 69. So, one out of three isn't bad, but oh man it certainly doesn't relieve the painful disappointment of the other two! Oh yeah, and of course, of all three UHRs, my goddaughter's was ordered LAST!!

Tried to ask this last night, but for some reason the reply box would not let me type - had the box with the little red x in it.

Anyway, I received mine yesterday and opted to open it rather than to submit for FS. I thought the packaging was beautifully done.

That being said, if I didn't know better I would have thought that the coin had been slightly circulated or wiped with a rough cloth...at least the obverse side. The reverse looks fine. I looked at it with a good stereo microscope and they are not flow lines, They appear in deep recesses and in the fields and also on the high points running right up to lettering and design components. I have not been paying attention to all the posts, and realize this may have previously been addressed/commented on. As it stands I am leaning towards sending it back for replacement. Has this problem been noted by others?

Well, don't count on that Mr. FC. As screwed up as the mint is, it would NOT surprise me if they shipped a UHR to you by accident!

Curious what the current pop reports are showing for the UHR?

I gotta get rid of the box.

    The box has to go.

    Now.

I wanna open it, but I will have another one coming sometime in May, maybe, and I can open THAT one...

Will have to wait a few days to submit.

image Same here, and it will still be a 70 if I should ever feel the need to send it in in the future. If the majority of buyers ever discover what a FS really is, that will be the end of that (sort of like the mints FIFO lol). I don't fault anyone for riding the wave though, power to ya.

  • My coin was left by UPS on the steps in front of my house. What a bunch of clowns. Not the nicest of neighborhoods, could have been so easily swiped....what is amatter with these people?????

Can anyone give me some insight? The coin, of which i have not opened the box, has the March 11th date on it, and I would really like to send it in to PCGS. i don't have many other coins, so, i was wondering, which is the best way to go about it, sign up with PCGS or other means? I plan on keeping this coin no matter how its graded, but i would like something that the 'Pro's' tell me its condition.
