Well, I finally got mine. I intended to send this in as my first submission (proud new member of PCGS Collector's Society!), but I notice a few what I'd call rim dings on both the obverse and reverse.
I know this is a stupid question, but that pretty much ends the 70 quest, right? These "dings" are about .25mm or so, maybe smaller. I'd take a picture, but my camera sucks for close ups...

I couldn't take a decent picture of my UHR in the capsule to post. After looking at it for awhile and not finding any flaws(spots, rim nicks or polish lines), figured it should be sent in for grading after winning in the PBGS shipping lotto (Feb.25). Hadn't planned on having it graded. Had to renew my PCGS membership that expired a couple years ago, and paid for express service. Hoping my luck stays and rolling for a MS(7)0.

Since ordering the UHR on the first day in the afternoon (order #30856xxx), I've gotten couple e-mails from the mint telling me that it's backordered. I figured I probably won't get it in time for the FS designation. However, I just got an e-mail from the mint saying my UHR was shipped on 3/10. I think I read in the last few posts that the cutoff date for FS is postmarked by 3/11. Is that true? And if I get the coin after 3/11 and send the unopened package to PCGS, I can still get the FS, right? Also, has anyone tried sending the UHR to PCGS under the free quarterly special (for coin w/sun rays) and declaring the value of the coin at $1,000. Sorry, if this is already discussed. I just didn't want to go through the 180+ pages on this thread.

Just called and canceled mine, all they could tell me was It should ship by April 26, I told her I was going on vacation next week and wouldn't be back untill April 4th, and could they postpone any delivery untill after that, I said even May or June would be fine, I just couldn't have it left on the porch for up to 3 weeks, she said could I have a neighbor take it in, i said no, not knowing when it would be delivered. She said she couldn't postpone a delivery, she could put a note in my file....but it probably wouldn't help, when the time came it would be delivered, So I said to cancel it, she said a lot of orders were canceled, and it could be delivered soon, I said no thank you.... Cancel it. And she said ok, thank you for shopping at the U.S. Mint.
Greetings from the United States Mint. The following order has been cancelled either at your request or because we were unable to process it. We invite you to resubmit the order via our website at http://www.usmint.gov and click on Product Catalog.
I just checked the order date on the mint website and confirmed I ordered on 2/2/09. Coin was on my doorstep (no signature) when I came back from Lowe's moments ago. Don't see any rim nicks and do see the inny belly button... so off to PCGS it goes today.

This is so screwed up. Know I'm not alone here but I ordered mine 1/28/09, my order # 3090XXXX. Now that the "Track Order" feature is back up and running on the Mint website, I just checked and my "delivery date" is scheduled as 04/01/09!
If FIFO order regime is being adhered to, then what gives? The mint just isn't being quite fair with this one. Almost seems as though the more expensive, later orders are being filled first just to get more money for the mint!
So I come home today from the doctors office with strep throat and as I arrive I spot a small white box on my front porch. I thought to myself it must be my presidential dollar coin rolls from the mint. I went up to the door picked up the box and went inside to open it. Guess what!!! There for all the world to take was my UHR just sitting there on my front porch. You know by paying almost 300 dollars over spot I would at least expect signature confirmation for one once of gold.
RACC I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
I received the shipping confirmation email last night (ordered on the first day at 1:19). The tracking # indicates the shipment was processed in Indianapolis today, so it looks like delivery to my PO Box today is out of the question.
It really blows to be unable to inspect the coin first to determine if it even makes sense to consider submitting for first strike.

You should have left it sealed, sold it on eBay for $1860 and bought another one, making a few hundred in the process.
Based on my understanding of a conversation I had with an employee at the Mint in D.C., whose name I will not reveal to prevent any retaliation against her, I was provided the following information.
ALLEGEDLY, the Mint has known all this time which orders were going to be shipped and which orders were NOT going to be shipped for at least the last two weeks.
ALLEGEDLY, more than two weeks ago, the Mint had finished preparing certain orders for shipping. These prepared orders are the orders that the Mint has been shipping over the past two weeks. The Mint knew that only these prepared orders would be shipped through today.
So, ALLEGEDLY, if you have called the Mint over the past two weeks to check the status of your order, the Mint knew at that time whether or not your order was going to ship and DID NOT tell you.
ALLEGEDLY, the Mint has NOT prepared ANY additional orders for shipping other than those prepared orders mentioned above.
ALLEGEDLY, the Mint actually stopped shipping ANY additional orders.
ALLEGEDLY, the Mint will resume shipping additional orders this Friday, March 13, 2009.
ALLEGEDLY, the Mint knew that their FIFO shipping policy that their customers relied on had been completely disregarded and is sufficiently ready and willing to blame PBGS for this critical error.
If the abovementioned information is true, and I have no reason to believe it is not since it was told to me so 'matter of fact', then the Mint has lost the trust and respect of an entire generation of numismatists, if not more. The actions and the behavior by the Mint is deplorable, profoundly disturbing, and inexcusable. Even a public apology seems inadequate at best. Nevertheless, numismatists and citizens should know the truth. This is your government; these are your tax dollars. These people are supposedly required to report to you, the people. Demand the truth. Demand a remedy.
Just checked the mint website again! It says my order was shipped today! So far, no email to confirm....and no CC charge on file, pending or otherwise.

Pumpkin the mistake the mint made was in not having the books ready to ship on time and also taking orders before the coin was ready to ship.
The delivery and FIFO problems seem to be with the new fulfillment center. They messed that up and probably had no idea people fight over these coins like it is life or death.
Anyway I am not excusing any of this, but the mint was also let down as well. The people at the mint though should have done a better job in handling all of this, but this is the way it is with the mint.
Many of us went through issues with the platinum coins last year and earlier and took advantage of the situation by waiting and buying at the end of last year. Some people are benefiting from the problems of the mint right now, look at the prices of the UHR on Ebay.
So when the mint goofs we actually can get rewarded for it.
Oh man, I ended up with a PCGS MS69 First Strike! Wonder what that would bring if I put it up on ebay? I was going to sell it if it came back a 70 and order another, but, now I might just keep it???
I checked mine - Track Order indicates it too shipped today. Ordered 1/22 @ 7:20 p.m. Order #3086****.

I just called PCGS regarding the Mint's shipping dates...
Since their site - and my subsequent call - confirmed a 3/11 shipping date ("it should show up in Tracking Info. tonight"), on Ms. Morrisine's suggestion, called PCGS...
PCGS confirms that if it's shipped today - the last date to qualify for FS - "Don't Open The Box", and send it directly to PCGS. US Mint confirms this date will be on the shipping label, so looks like I'm in...

MS/PR-60 No wear. May have many heavy marks/hairlines, strike may not be full

MS/PR-66 Few minor marks/hairlines not in focal areas, good strike
MS/PR-67 Virtually as struck with minor imperfections, very well struck
MS/PR-68 Virtually as struck with slight imperfections, slightest weakness of strike allowed
MS/PR-69 Virtually as struck with minuscule imperfections, near full strike necessary
MS/PR-70 As struck, with full strike
so a full strike with die polish lines (as struck) could be graded ms70... yes?

Nevertheless, numismatists and citizens should know the truth. This is your government; these are your tax dollars. These people are supposedly required to report to you, the people. Demand the truth. Demand a remedy.
<< <i>You should have left it sealed, sold it on eBay for $1860 and bought another one, making a few hundred in the process. >>
Is this what they are going for?
edited to add: Just got mine.
Screwed up!
<< <i>I just checked the order date on the mint website and confirmed I ordered on 2/2/09. Coin was on my doorstep (no signature) when I came back from Lowe's moments ago. Don't see any rim nicks and do see the inny belly button... so off to PCGS it goes today.
Order number: 30925XXX
Order Date: 02/02/2009 at 07:01 PM
I also bought $500 Native American dollars on the same order and received them several weeks ago. Only thing remaining is the book. >>
BTW that "inny" that BeeMan has was an MS70...that's a well struck coin...an inny that is...
<< <i>THIS IS AMAZING!

Checked again today, and system shows the coin shipped this morning, 3/11, and the companion book is scheduled to ship 4/1.

Knowledge is the enemy of fear
Since their site - and my subsequent call - confirmed a 3/11 shipping date ("it should show up in Tracking Info. tonight"), on Ms. Morrisine's suggestion, called PCGS...
PCGS confirms that if it's shipped today - the last date to qualify for FS - "Don't Open The Box", and send it directly to PCGS. US Mint confirms this date will be on the shipping label, so looks like I'm in...
