Folks, along with the emails to PBGS emails, I'm wondering if Blogging CNN or other national/WW news organizations could further highlight this Mint mess? My concern/reservation is we're complaining about a Gold coin shipment (at time many folks are hurting on far more serious issues)? Your thoughts?
US Navy/CAPT (Ret)/37yrs ------------------------- Status: Ding, Ding...Ding, Ding...Ding, Ding...
Sure, why not? Not everyone is supposed to be in dire straights rignt now. Some have lent/spent responsibly and typically are not losing their homes. Those that have lost their jobs is a different story, my heart goes out to those folks. But we live in a democracy. If everyone was poor or rich, you might think it was a socialistic society.

CryptoGuy, I agree about your comments regarding the economy and people hurting these days and my heart goes out to these folks! I'm glad I'm not in their shoes, yet?
I'm now looking for the WSJ, NYTimes and other big news agencies to break this to. Just think, the US Mint and PB will have mud on their faces and they should based on how they've treated their customer base. Bad publicity sometimes turns into a positive.
I don't see why complaining or being pissed is such a bad thing. I feel like many here like me are being cheated by being first in line and obviously last out. People in this world have sued for far less. I mean the Mint IMO is grossly negligent in this matter. They put a disclaimer out on their website saying orders would be shipped first in first out. IMO there are monetary damages being done for anyone who ordered in the first few hours if that is your intention to sell it. Which I am not. But not having the First Strike label will cause the coin to be worth a little less then having it. Man I cant wait until the Lincoln 5 coin Commemorative and the slow website and boots, Might actually go to the secondary market and pay more so I dont have to deal with this BS.
between the unsealed boxes that already have been noted in this thread and now the scratched-up coin we've seen here, Holy Smokes, you've got to be kidding me!!!
I sure think people better open their boxes and: 1) make sure the coin is there BEFORE the delivery driver leaves, and 2) see if they need to return the thing, ASAP.
This is all so pathetic. As was inferred in another post, Americans have, for far, far too long, become complacent with the mediocre work other people often do. BS! You should expect the absolute best from everyone all the time.
Do your friends really think more of you if you expect the least from them?
<< <i>Nope, nothing. I went on the site and cancelled my subscription and got a confirmation for that, but no automated UHR e-mails... checked junk too. >>
Do you still get the "Your order is still being processed..." recording on the automated telephone thingie? That would tend to indicate there's still a tuple for you in the database. (I deliberately entered the wrong order #, and got a "We are unable to locate your order" message, indicating the "still being processed" message is not generic.) >>
Yes, in fact I checked that today simply because I don't trust a mint rep enough to be honest with me that it's still in the system. It took me a couple tries but then I was able to enter my order number into the phone system... "still in process" blah blah
UHR Ordered on 1/22/09 @ 12:08PM Status: Received ... sent to grading

Good points. Altough I am among those whose order was placed in the first half hour and have no product in sight, I do think it is neat that others are getting theirs even though ordered later. It is sort of like watching your friends win the lottery.

Nooo, this is not a joke. That's a real order number and date. I want my damn lincolns. They were supposed to ship 02/19/09. A pre-authorization was put on my card on 02/17, but then expired on 02/24. Every time I call the Mint they say my coins are in process. GRRRR.
Hate to say it, but I think we're all like Patrick Swayze in Ghost... we need our own Whoopie Goldberg to communicate with the Mint, cause we got kicked out of the tunnel of light and now we're on our own and no one can hear or see us... Maybe this PBGS guy won't mind being Whoopie for a day!
Oh! And the UHR is like Demi Moore

At this point I'm going to go sign off for the night. If I don't receive any emails or return phone calls by 2pmET on Friday I'm taking this issue to the media. PB and the US Mint will not like that publicity but they are the ones who have caused this mess and you have to do what you have to do!
let the govt watch. If they were watching carefully they would have handled the situtation better than this crappy mess. Instead of our current situation
<< <i>Sent an email to the VP of External Communications at PB.. Here's how it went:
My email:
To Whom it may concern:
I placed an order for the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin on 1/22/09 at approx. 12:30 PM Eastern time. After over a month of delays, being told that the coin would ship to me first on 1/28, then 2/6, then 2/11, then 2/20 - I still have no confirmation that my order has shipped. According to the US mint web site, it states that "Orders will be processed on a first-in, first-out basis." I am now finding out that people who placed orders well after I did, sometimes several days after, have already received their coins. Why is the first-in, first-out process not being followed?
His answer:
I am very sorry for the poor customer service on this matter. I have forwarded your note to the appropriate colleagues at Pitney Bowes. Again, please accept my apologies for this customer service problem.

I just rec'd the same response. But it's worth the effort as someone is going to get an earfull tomorrow at PB. Come on people, email him.....it just may work if enough people complain.
Is it possible the scratches on that UHR are actually scratches on the plastic capsule?? Maybe there is a plastic rim as well on the capsule that is scratched. Can anybody confirm this?
it also looks like the capsule is cracked on both obverse and reverse. can u confirm this as well?
I was also thinking about washington post's local and national reporters.

Only way to find out .. open the capsule and take a look ... if the scratches are on the coin, you got bullion and nothing else...send it back. If the capsule is cracked, but the coin is ok...send it out for grading, you won't need the capsule.

I would definitely send it back if the coin is scratched. Can you imagine because of the timing that you can't take your coin out of the box before you submit to PCGS. This is very worrisome.

Well, It's official the mint or PBGS is not telling the truth. I ordered 2 of these coins. The first coin I ordered in the first hour, and have heard NOTHING yet on shipping. The second coin I ordered the next day to my business address and I just received email the Item ships 2/26.

Luckily, this isn't the military, so we can get pissed and send people e-mails telling them how poor of a job they are doing... and that's the American Way!
