This is an excerpt from the Mint's Shop Online Main Page. I just got off the phone with a Mint Rep after 40 minutes and although she was trying to explain to me that the Mint is resuming shipping this week, she didn't even know this was on the Mint's website.
I just got off with the mint and they told me my order would be sent on April 24th. My order was placed in the first hour of the first day.
RACC I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!
I believe they are misreading their own memos. I had a rep read the entire memo to me verbatim and the 4/24 date is a completion date. All orders taken through the second day of availability will be fully shipped BY 4/24. That does not preclude the possibility that yours will ship tomorrow. In fact, the memo went on to state that those orders placed on day one would likely ship this week as they have plenty available. Now, with the mint shipping the coins sans booklet, I believe lots of CCs will be hit tonight and tomorrow.
Thank you Lureuin, and welcome to the boards. I've been trying to give away a pancake to the first person to post a photo of one of these "in hand". Most folks are still waiting and I'm still holding out hope for the "giveaway".
If you ordered your 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin between January 22, 2009, and February 9, 2009, you are under the 30-day return policy. If you ordered on or after February 10, 2009, you are under the seven-day return policy. The return timeframe for the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold COIN will begin on the date you receive it. If you are dissatisfied for any reason with your 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold COIN, you may send it back to the United States Mint within the applicable return period for a full refund or replacement. If you return your COIN for any reason prior to receiving the Companion Book, you will not receive the Companion Book at a later date. If you receive the Companion Book within the applicable return period, you must return both for a full refund.
If your Companion Book is shipped separately, the exchange timeframe for it also will begin on the date received and be under the same return policy - 30 days or seven days - will apply. We will make no refunds for the Companion Book; we will make exchanges for damages only.

My name is Carolyn Sebastian. On January 22, 2009 I ordered the new Ultra High Relief from the US Mint along with thousands of others. My order was placed within the first forty-five minutes which I figured was very good based on the Mints policy of First-In-First-Out.
After numerous changes on my tracking account setting my order backwards I started to call your mint to find out when my order was scheduled to be shipped. I was notified it would be shipped February 18, 2009, and then it was changed to February 20, 2009. On February 20, I called to see if it would ship on that date and was told that my order had been picked and was at the warehouse and should be shipped by Monday. I called the next day to see if it had been shipped and was told they could not tell me if it had shipped or not, check back later. I called later that day and was told they could not tell me if my order would be shipped or not. I called on Monday, February 23, 2009 and again was given the run-a-round. I called the Mint Director’s office and was transferred to a Debra Holt (a very nice lady) who told me that shipping had resumed that day and I should be receiving by email a notice explaining the delay.
Since the US Mints tracking system has not functioned for two weeks, I called again to see if my coin has been shipped. I am told that everyone who has ordered this coin prior to February 23, 2009 will receive their coin by April 24, 2009. What happened to first in and first out and why do I have to wait until April 24, 2009? I asked to speak to a supervisor and after 10 minutes of bickering I was told that no supervisor was available. This lady would not give me the time of day. I left my telephone number and asked that the first available supervisor call me. Guess what, no return call! My husband and I are not rich but we still spend a lot of money with the mint. I have at least six subscriptions and buy other items from the Mint. As a customer I would expect to be treated with respect and not given the run a round which I have received. Never in my life have I talked to so many rude people. I understand that there is a problem but all I would like is a shipping date. How hard can this be? I did not receive a return call so I do not expect to receive an answer to this letter. I am only writing this because I am very tired of talking to people who give you twenty different answers for one question. When will my coin be shipped?
Sincerely,
Carolyn Sebastian I received a telephone call at 7:15 AM from a Mrs Stevenson from the US Mint in Washington. I guess they do answer a Fax. Yes they have resummed shipping. She had all the information about my order in front of her. She does not know when my order will be shipped. They have not shipped out a lot of UHR. It is definitely a warehouse problem along with the books and they are trying to correct it. She says it is now in a print status. This means my order was picked it was printed out to be shipped and now it is up to the warehouse to ship it. This could take up to two weeksto receive the order. I asked her about FIFO and she stated it is suppose to be that way. I do not think so.
why does everyone think that if the usmint states that coins will be shipped by 4/24 they will necessarily get their coin on 4/24. The orders that were placed on 2/22 and 2/23 will all be shipped BY 4/24. You will likely get it within a week from the point they start to resume shipping (which has now been stated on the mint's website that shipments will resume this week).

Good job, thumbs up for ya.
But the number you fax your complaint was the audit department at the I.R.S. So you know what this means..
finally the famous words of enlightenment from the usmint. to tell us something that we already know. In terms of shipping they are finally doing something that we all wished they did from the beginning and that is sending out the coin without the book. It takes a true einstein to think of this remember that.
Surely there must be some of us in the numismatic community with "Washington clout" (either because we ARE Congresscritters, or KNOW Congresscritters, or sleep with them, or... whatever). Have any of these connections been employed to provide the (ahem) "appropriate" (and usual and customary) pressure on Moy and Co. at the Mint? If not... WHY not?
having contacts in power can backfire on all of us. Yes if you go high enough you can find somebody who can make that call however, it must be something of last resort. Yes the current situation is bad however we should see what the next two days bring us, they might actually hold true to their statement we will see.
I have a good friend, Laqeesha, who works over at PBGS. She sent me this clip from security footage to finally reveal the truth about the whole UHR delay -

PEACE! This is the first day of the rest of your life.
Sickening. The mint has offerered no effective communication directly to customers--and leaves us in the dark.
Now we find they're delivering orders out of sequence, but have no means to even determining what's going on other than checking credit card activity...pathetic!
My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who works at 31 Flavors last night. She's getting her UHR. I guess the mint is serious.

UHRs will ship per the following note on the US Mint Website:
The United States Mint is pleased to announce that we will resume shipping the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin during the week of February 22, 2009. However, because of production problems with the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin Companion Book, you may receive only the COIN and presentation box at this time. If you are a customer who receives the COIN without the Companion Book, we will ship the Companion Book to you, at no extra charge, when it becomes available. For information on how this may affect the return of the product if you are not satisfied, please see FAQ #210.
From the US Mint Website Answer ID 210: How do I return 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coins?
Question: If I received my 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin without the Companion Book, and want to return the product for any reason, what will be the timeframe in which I must return the product so I can receive a refund or exchange?
Answer: If you ordered your 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin between January 22, 2009, and February 9, 2009, you are under the 30-day return policy.
**I love the part about sending it back for replacement.....

At the rate that delivery is being pushed out, I'm beginning to think we could see a total mintage as low as 50K units. That would of course assume no more fork lift accidents

They will eventually get things worked out, they have the best part of a year (and could offer into 2010). If mintage figure stays low they will remove (or raise) the limit then things will take off. I read somewhere they were prepared to see a mintage figure of 300K.

Does not say what happens with receipt of defective book by the "lucky ones."
I mean.... it is conceivable that bad books were received after the rollver to 7-day return.
Does this mean they can't return the bad book for a new one?
edit: Oh. it says ordered by Feb 9th... not received.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Sebastian >>
Good job, thumbs up for ya.
But the number you fax your complaint was the audit department at the I.R.S. So you know what this means..
If not... WHY not?

the proper term is "not for nothing"
Fred, Las Vegas, NV
Three things come to mind as I watch the U.S. Mint Forklift operator working diligently to get the UHR's out :
1) "Close enough for government work"
2) "Job Security"
3) "No pancake for you "
Coinnews - UHR Shipments Resume
LA KINGS #11 - KOPITAR
if you just rec'd another shipment or charge from the USM, like a Lincoln Commem or otherwise,
that charge just replaced your outstanding authorization - same vendor.......cc doesnt know any differently,
so it isnt a USM issue......
I received an email from a friend this morning, his UHR shipped yesterday, he placed his order several hours after mine on day one.
Now we find they're delivering orders out of sequence, but have no means to even determining what's going on other than checking credit card activity...pathetic!
<< <i>I have a good friend, Laqeesha, who works over at PBGS. She sent me this clip from security footage to finally reveal the truth about the whole UHR delay -

And there ya go!!!!!!
Really?....That is good news.
Come on..I'm not as dumb as I look.

The United States Mint is pleased to announce that we will resume shipping the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin during the week of February 22, 2009. How do I return 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coins?
Question:
If I received my 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin without the Companion Book, and want to return the product for any reason, what will be the timeframe in which I must return the product so I can receive a refund or exchange?
Answer:
**I love the part about sending it back for replacement.....

They will eventually get things worked out, they have the best part of a year (and could offer into 2010). If mintage figure stays low they will remove (or raise) the limit then things will take off. I read somewhere they were prepared to see a mintage figure of 300K.
