wow, that Messier card sends me back.....i remember people paying sicko money for that card when he and Gretzky were still running neck and neck for fan popularity.

    dig it, nice pull. image

1991 Stadium Club football box purchased from BBCE for $75. Unfortunately no Favre's.

Have a fantasy football draft in 25 minutes so done for a while.

Recent sub results. I should have just burned $150 instead of making the sub. Admittedly some of the 75 minis weren't that strong but grades were still pretty harsh across the board. Will update the posts these cards came from. Still waiting on a Tall Boys submission of 4 cards from 7/17/09, hoping for poppage this month on that sub.

Going to open some modern football boxes tonight. Have to do this in between working so not sure how frequently the thread will be updated.
First off is a box of 2009 Philadelphia purchased from a Maryland card shop for $72. I am definitely going to do the base card autos from this set.

Next up will be a box of 2008 Leaf Certified football.

Can someone PM me the SPs for 2009 Philadelphia? I have opened 4 boxes but have no idea what the SPs are. I figure I can list them as a lot on eBay and get a couple $$s for them.
    Thanks!

<< <i>Time to rip some more packs.
Two packs of 1980/81 OPC hockey purchased from BBCE for $60 per pack. Pulled the big rookie looks like an 8. I needed PSA 9s of Langway and Goulet for my PC but no dice. The Messier is actually the best centered card in either pack. Gotta luv that.

Next up 3 packs of 1981/82 OPC hockey.

8.5? That is fantastic centering for this set, very nice.

A box of 2008 Leaf Certified football purchased from my local card shop for $75. The Felix Jones is numbered 53/100 the Charley Taylor 20/25. Glad I hit a decent rookie. Card placement on the scanner could have been a little more square.

Next up a box of 2008 Goudey.

Box of 2008 Goudey purchased from a Maryland card store for $69.95. Pulled a Sport Royalty auto just not the right one.

Next up a box of 2008 Leaf Limited football.

What's the "right" auto? Tiger? Jordan?
  • fergie23fergie23 Posts: 2,115 ✭✭✭✭
Tiger. Some day I will pull his auto from some product.

A box of 2009 Goodwin purchased from my local card shop for $79.95. Not that big a fan too much like A&G for my tastes and I'm done with the whole mini card thing. I'm sure I will be a much bigger fan if I pull a good auto someday.

Next up a box of 2008 SP Auth football.

A box of 2008 SP Auth football. The Desean Jackson isn't a bad card and Josh Johnson is the new starter for Tampa Bay.

One pack of 1986 Fleer basketball purchased from BBCE for $325. Centering not so good but one HOF RC thus far. Hoping for a sequence flip.

Top/Bottom centering is still poor. Not looking good for a sequence flip.

Unfortunately no Jordan and no submittable cards. I was due for a complete dud of a 86 Fleer pack after the run I had been on.

I have 2 1975 Topps baseball packs, 1 1976 Topps baseball pack and a box of 81 Topps football to open but will probably open them later this week.

I am going to open the boxes in my unopened box collection. I decided I am not cut out for an unopened collection. Will be some fun rips over the next couple months as I open a 75 Topps baseball box, 79 Topps hockey box, 84 Topps football box, 85 OPC hockey box, 86 OPC hockey box and 87 Fleer basketball box.

    Cheers,

    Robb

One box of 1981 Topps Football purchased from BBCE for $450. The commons are very clean with many potential 10s. Star power was lacking or poorly centered. Did pull a Montana but I will let the pictures tell the tale.

    image

Nicely centered, decent corners...was thinking easy 8 small chance at a 9.

    image

Turned it over and sadness...torn paper above the AN in Montana.

First up is a box of 1984 Topps Football graded GAI 8.5 from a sealed case that I purchased on ebay for $317.00 a while back. I figured while GAI isn't very good it is unlikely they certified an entire case of bad boxes. Overall happy with the box. Lots of HOF RCs but not too much that is gradable. The Elways and Marino look like 8s to me and will be subbed this month some time.

Next up is a box of 2008 Leaf Limited football.

One box of 1985/86 OPC hockey purchased on eBay from BBCE for $1300.00. Very fun box to open but got nervous when after 40 packs still hadn't pulled a Lemieux. Fortunately the last couple of packs were good to me. The first 20 packs or so had very clean cut cards, almost no rough cut at all. Rough cuts started showing up later in the box. Quite a few nicely centered, sharp cornered commons. Will do a check through VCP to see if any are worth subbing. Will sub most of the cards scanned, not the Lemieux Scoring Leaders, though I think they are more 8-9 tweeners than solid 9s but worth the gamble.

Next up a box of 2008 Donruss Elite football.

Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

Opened the box of 1975 Topps baseball with a buddy of mine during lunch. Box was purchased from BBCE for $3250.00. All 36 packs looked legit and untampered with. However based on the condition of the packs, the seals and the condition of the gum it appeared that this box was put together from multiple sources rather than all the packs being from a single box. One of the packs included water damaged cards. Not complaining just offering an observation.

Unfortunately didn't pull any HOF RCs, was really hoping for a PSA 10 Yount image Overall fun box to open but probably not worth the price point. 75 Topps mini boxes are a much better deal. Cards had typical poor centering. Averaged one or two reasonably centered cards per pack.

Next up a box of 2008 Leaf Certified Materials football purchased from my local card shop for $75.00. The Deion Branch patch is actually pretty nice and numbered 5/25. Unfortunately the signed rookie card, Devin Thomas, plays wide receiver for the Redskins so he will be a bust.

Next up a box of 2008 SP Auth football.

That's a scare on the OPC box!! Great you pulled a couple Lemieux's at the end tho!

Ouchy on that 75 box, it does make the mini box a great deal at 3:1

Were the water damaged cards at the bottom of the box?

    Good luck on the grading

2008 SP Auth football box purchased from my local card shop for $119.95. Very fun box to open, felt like I pulled an auto in every pack. Didn't hit any of the big name rookies but still well worth the price from an entertainment perspective.

Next up will be a box of 2008 Donruss Threads football.
