For the SASE, I use the small envelopes with the peel off backing...so the players don't have to lick the glue. My thought with Charley Taylor was that he didn't like to lick the glue - which is why he was mailing the SASE back unclosed.

2 more added over the weekend. The Lofton was TTM and the Otto Graham was an E-Bay pickup that passed a PSA/DNA quick opinion.
I'm up to 68 HOF rc's signed, with 11 being signed at the National and Chantilly shows and 9 oustanding TTM requests. I'll also send another 3 or 4 to the upcoming Canton, OH show. All said and done, I should be closing in on 85 signed...not too bad for 6 months work!

What did you end up paying for the Otto Graham?? Just curious because I was watching that auction and was going to buy it but the guy ended up killing the auction early.
I ended up paying $300 dlvd for the Graham. I e-mailed the seller and asked if he had a BIN price. We agreed that I would obtain a PSA/DNA quick opinion and if authentic, he would end the auction and set up a fixed price auction for $300...
It was a little higher than I was wanting to pay, but the auto is pretty nice...probably a 7 or 8 quality.

<< <i>Greg, 85, wow, nice collection! What has the group cost? John >>
John,
Actually, I haven't spent that much $ because most of the rc's have been reasonably priced and many have been TTM...which on average cost me about $10. So, overall, I've probably spend $2k excluding the Unitas rc (which cost $700).

Alright guys I need your opinion on this one. I came across this Eric Dickerson signed RC. What do you guys think on the signature? Dickerson was the first guy I remember watching here in Indy and was going to have him sign for me at the National but it's $69 for his auto. What do you guys think?
Dickerson's signature is almost undecipherable, however the sig on the card in the auction doesn't look good...imho. Try sending a rc TTM. Dickerson has started signing again lately...

Thanks Greg! Yeah he has an ugly signature. I wasn't 100% certain, so I figured I'd ask you guys. Now do I risk sending my PSA 9 rookie TTM or just suck it up and get it signed at the show?

<< <i>Reese, Greg or John. Is Steve Van Buren signing anywhere or even TTM? Or is he in the Bobby Mitchell/John Henry Johnson category? >>
From what I understand, Van Buren is still able to sign, but only very large items (and he hasn't done a show since circa 2004). The guys who are too sick to sign are JH Johnson, Pete Pihos, Doug Atkins and Ollie Matson. The guys who are in declining health, don't sign TTM but still sign occasionally at shows or private signings are Willie Wood, Bobby Mitchell, Sam Huff, Sonny Jurgensen, Tommy McDonald and Y.A. Tittle. I may be missing one or two guy...but the listing is pretty complete.

Reese/Scott,
I can't wait to see scans of your new additions and to hear the Hornung story. I'm bummed that I couldn't make the National this year... I'll have to live vicariously through the both of you.
FYI - I just received my cards back from Earl Morrall today after 2 1/2 months. I had written to him back in December asking if he would sign every regular issue card of his for me (16 in total) for $10 each. He wrote back in April saying that he would. I mailed the package on May 16th and just received the cards back today...and they look great. I especially love the 1957 Topps rc... I'm now at 109 signed cards from the 1957 Topps set.

Collecting vintage auto'd fb cards and Dan Marino cards!!
Alright! So I'm back from Cleveland and here are the scans of what I picked up.
First up, I had these two signed at the show. The Jurgensen signature didn't turn out great, but he was super nice and talking to everyone. I was hesitant to pay the $80 fee, but I'm glad to knock him off the list. The whole time he was there he was chewing on a cigar and just seemed as happy as can be!
Paul Hornung was a different story. So I walk up to him and lay down my 57 Topps card. He throws his hands up and in the air and yells "Woah!" I think he is joking with me right? He looks at me and says do you know this is my rookie card? I was like "Yeah, I've been looking forward to you signing it for some time now. He says "Do you have any idea how much this is worth?" I said, "Well, I know I paid $75 for it." He looks at me and says "$800! and you are going to ruin it if I sign it." I now realize for some reason he is pissed. I told him that because of the stain this one wasn't in very good condition and was a good one to have him sign. He then starts telling me that I don't know what I'm doing, that I'm just throwing money down the drain, blah, blah, blah and that I don't know anything about football cards or autographs. This went on for another minute or so. I was fed up at this point, and I finally said "Look, either sign it or give me my $40 back!" He signed it, mumbled something, and as I'm walking away the Packers fan that was behind me who I had been chit chating with caught up to me and said "Man, I think he's loosing it!" He may have just been in a bad mood or something, but the whole thing really irritated me. Anyway, here is the final product-
Next up, snagged these beauties from Phil Marks. Got the Adderley for $25 and the Huff for $40. I haven't seen any Huffs around so it was a really nice surprise!
Also picked up the Canadeo from Phil Marks for a reasonable price. The Mitchell came from Ron Gordon who I talked with for a little bit and looked through all his great stuff. I've dealt with him a number of times online and he is absolutely the best!
Next up, found this Jim Taylor. Condition wise it's not great, but it fills the gap. I was super excited to find a 55 All-American I didn't have. Ed Garbisch died in 1979 and is the college HOF. I can't imagine there are too many of these floating around.
Alright and the two highlights from the show. I went in the show praying that I'd be able to find a Y.A. Tittle rc to be signed. I figured it was a lost cause since I've been looking for about two months and couldn't find anything. Well, within five minutes of walking through the door I find a dealer with about 12 of them at his booth. I picked the best one and met Y.A. later that day. He was extremely nice. He talked to me about a minute telling me about the Baltimore Colts. He turned the card over and was reading all his stats. It was really cool.
Also had the great opportunity to meet Jim Brown today. He was very nice as well asking me how I was doing and if I was having a good time at the show. I was really excited to meet him and it definitely was the highlight of the show for me as well as the cornerstone of my HOF RC collection.
So that was my Cleveland experience. It was a last minute thing and I wasn't really sure if I'd be able to make it or not. I really wish I would have had the chance to meet some of the guys that post here but I guess there is always next year!

Will do... You'll have to wait until I get back and get everything unpacked (probably later Monday night).
If you really need it, I'd consider moving it, but it was a bit pricey (and has a crease that does not impact the signature). I like it and thought is was a reasonable value considering how tough this specific HOF RC is to find signed. Not sure if I got a nice deal or if I overpaid, but I'm content with it. I think I'll put it next to the George Allen signed '73T NFC Champ card...
