Yeah, I had snipes in on about a dozen or so of the cards. Ended up the underbidder on almost all of them. The two that hurt the most were the Landry and Canadeo. I thought I was good at $253+ and $127+... Guess not.

Just got another Bednarik (creased) and he signed it twice. Once in blue and I guess he didn't like it since it blended with the blue on the card, so he signed again in black in the orange background.
Amazingly, I got my Dudley back today with a couple of letters. One from Bill and another from his wife/daughter that was sort of sad and mentioned his hospitalization. It was sent from West Palm Beach, FL. I posted it in my 1948 Leaf Project thread. Also got a nice return from Earl Campbell and Harry Gilmer. Just waiting on Rossides and I'll have all of the surviving members of the '48 Leaf set except for VanBuren (he's too ill too sign).
Anyone that has any other '48 Leafs, please let me know...
Love the photo - I got the same one signed last year...absolutely sweet! I have gotten 8 HOF rc's back recently. Here are the good ones:
The Barney, Blanda and Gregg were all signed in black sharpie and all are very nice. I sent Blanda $20 and asked that he NOT personalize...which he obliged. The auto is somewhat tough to see because it was signed over his dark jersey...but it's bold and very legible.
Now - on to the 5 fugly amigos:
The Wehrli is badly feathered (cost $15), the Newsome is bubbled terribly (no cost) and the Lofton and Carson were signed with fading markers (cost $15 and free respectively). Mike Singletary's signature is completely illegible and the marker used was terrible.
I am SO dissapointed that these guys can't buy a decent f'ing marker to sign with. I have resorted to sending out blue sharpie's w/ my cards to avoid this very situation. It's especially frustrating that players who charge can't oblige with a decent autograph. Lofton and Wehrli should be ashamed of themselves....I am so disgusted because I have thrown about $5 to $10 per card plus the $15 fee plus postage...ect. I'm just frustrated because I've had 10+ bad returns in the past week. Such are the chances we taken when requesting autographs through the mail.

FYI - Sports Card Heroes will be attending the upcoming Tri-Star SF show and there will be several NFL HOFers signing...including a few who don't appear much (Bob Brown, Dave Wilcox...). I order through SCH all the time - and their prices are cheaper than order mail order through Tri-Star's website.
Below is a link to their website. Click the "Link here" blue link at the top of the page which will take you to a different screen which will list their prices to get the item signed for you. Some of the prices are the same as mail order, however the Jim Brown flat price of $99 is the same as at the show (Tri-Star mail in price is $119). The owners of SCH are GREAT guys (especially Rodney) and they do a great job getting any inscriptions or even having your item signed with the color sharpie of your choice.

I sent him 3 cards and included $40 (GLA, 82 Topps and 83 Topps) and asked that he doesn't personalize. I did the same thing w/ Blanda. I sent him $20 and asked that he didn't personalize it - which he did.
I don't think most players mind non personalizing if you give them a few extra dollars.
I'm getting ready to send Nick Buoniconti 4 cards (including his rc) and will send him $50 instead of $40 (as he usually asks for $10 per auto).

For a few weeks, there was an EXish raw Buoniconti rc for $55 on the bay. I bought it and a SGC 40 Tarkenton rc for around $95 dlvd. Not too bad. Tark is in the mail right now - wish me luck!

I received my Mack in the mail also today - he must have been catching up on his mail. I haven't seen the card (my wife called me at work to tell me that I received it).
A word of advice - I would start sending sharpie's with your auto requests (at least for the HOF rc's). I started sending my request in a bubble mailer with a ppd envelope, letter and sharpie and the players will generally provide a nice signature with the marker provided. Otherwise - it's too much of a crap shoot. After the 3 or 4 awful responses that I received earlier this year, I started spending the extra $1 to $1.50 per request and the payoff has been great thus far.
