    Reese,

I've heard that Tommy will call people who write to him...lol. I told the letter story to Phil Marks who said that Tommy is a great guy..albeit a little ecentric...lol..

    Reese,

I agree - I'd happily pay the $20 to have it signed at a show! We really need to keep our eyes open for upcoming shows where the older players are signing. Did you end up send a Tittle to the San Jose show (which is tomorrow)?

I can't wait to get my Tittle cards back (all 15 of them..lol..)!

No I missed Tittle. I couldn't find a nice rookie in time.

Here is some info about another show in Kansas City April 3-5. There are other players signing, but I believe these are the guys that don't sign TTM. The website is www.gtsportsmarketing.com

    Marshall Faulk-$79
    Dick Butkus-$89
    Troy Aikman-$119
    Jim Kelly-$79
    Bruce Smith-$79
    Marcus Allen-$79
    Len Dawson-$29
    Joe Montana-$149
    Emmitt Thomas-TBA

Does anyone else have any upcoming show info?

Dawson seems reasonable. Maybe Butkus. the rest not so much. Tomlinson costs 1/10th my semester tuition!

Wow - Dawson is only $29...too bad his rc is SO hard to find. If I can find a reasonbly priced Dawson, I'll get that signed. Besides that, I'd love to get Marcus Allen (he's one of only 15 or so living HOFers I need a signed GLA of) but I'm not paying $79 per auto - that's crazy.

I don't understand the HOFers who don't sign through the mail. Even if he charged $20 per auto, I'd pay it in a heartbeat.

The Sun Times show is March 20th through the 22nd and there are the guests:

    (all flat prices)

    Rod Woodson $69
    Joe Greene $59
Dan Marino $179 (who I really, really want to get but probably own't have the $!!!)
    Mike Ditka $69
    Dan Hampton $35

    Pretty weak overall...

Hmmm....Joe Greene signs through the mail for $25. It looks like Dan Hampton is inconsistent according to Sportscollectors.net, but does occasionally sign. Woodson hasn't had any recently successes in the last year. Marino should be signing for many more years to come. I may have to get Ditka, though I wonder if the price is inflated because the show is in Chicago? Man these prices are expensive! I remember the first time I ever paid for an autograph was Johnny Unitas and he cost me a whopping $25! What ever happened to those days?

    Reese,

Those days are LONG gone. I still need a GLA signed by Marino but $175 is a large pill to swallow. I looked through my cards and did find a raw Marino...so I'll likely get that signed too at some point.

Have you ever looked at the site www.signingshotline.com? It shows all the upcoming show. Some of the content is free, but there is also a paid membership which offers additional access.

If you go on the site, check out the upcoming Chantilly show. Bill Dudley is signing there for $20/auto! I guess that he's able to sign after all. What piss*s me off is that I have six cards out to him....4 Swell/Enor cards and a second envelope w/ a 1948 Leaf and 1950 Bowman. Now I'm debating whether to buy the cards (again!!) and send them to the Chantilly show. It drives me crazy!

There are 8 or 10 other HOFers there...nothing too exciting....Starr, Elway, Adderley, Gregg, W Davis, to name a few. What's really starting to worry me is that I haven't seen Willie Wood for a while on the auto circuit and he hasn't signed TTM is 2 1/2 years. I wonder if his health is failing...

    Greg,

Thanks for the info about the Chantilly show. If Dudley is in bad shape, I can't imagine he will show up for this. You never know, maybe you'll get your cards back from Dudley's wife.

I have heard the Willie Wood's health is failing. I remember hearing an interview with Ditka speaking out about the NFL players awful pension plans and I specifically remember him saying that some of the guys are in really bad shape now. I know he mentioned Willie Wood, Pete Pihos, Doug Atkins, and Steve Van Buren not doing so well and really needed help.

Sweet! Now I just have to find a rc!

Okay, so I'm pretty pissed about this. I sent Elvin Bethea my 70 Topps RC and a check for $10. He sends back this other card signed, doesn't sign my rookie, and cashes the check! WTF?!? This one is going back in the mail!

Not a NFL HOFer, but a huge addition to my 55 Auto set and Heisman Auto Set. This card is probably one of the nicest signed 55's I have!

    John,

The McElhenny was definately reasonable @ $25. I've been ones in worse condition on E-Bay and the seller is asking 3x to 4x that. I got the Matthews via mail order at the Houston Tri Star show last month. Sports Card Heroes was accepting mail in orders for the show (if you're never used SCH, Rodney and his partner are the BEST) and I sent in a GLA and his Score rc. It really tured out nicely!

For some reason, Matthews doesn't sign very often (and doesn't sign TTM), so at $35 per auto I didn't mind having him sign both items.

For the older guys who aren't senile, it would benefit them to charge $10 TTM and have a family member or friend help them process the requests. That would at least supplement their meager pensions. I am totally p*ssed that I missed Wood a year ago. I sent my GLA to be signed at the Chantilly show and the PO took 5 days to deliver a priority mail envelope...so I completely missed the show.

It taught me a lesson to get everything in the mail early!

    Greg M.

Greg, that's eerie. I sent a golf ball to Masters Champ George Archer like 2 weeks before he died and got it back the day he passed away. Just creepy. Hope it comes back to you.

Not sure if I've shared this in the past, but I had a couple of situations where the signer passed within days of getting the item.

Vic Raschi signed at a show in October 1988 in New Brunswick, NJ, I believe on Sunday afternoon. He rarely did shows and his table was rather slow. After chatting with him for awhile, he told me that if I wanted to get a box of balls, he'd sign them for me. I think I paid about $45.00 for a box of 12 AL Balls and Mr. Raschi signed all of them. He was charging $7.00 to sign and told me to pay his associate $10 for the dozen. Sadly, he died the following Friday after the show (on my birthday).

I had also had sent a ball to Dale Long in December of 1990 that I had already had signed my Don Mattingly over the summer. About a month later, I heard that Mr. Long had passed and figured my ball was gone. Two day after Mr. Long died, the ball arrived in my mailbox. I always envisioned him passing out and dying upon his return from dropping my ball in the mailbox. I stopped sending out TTM's for a couple of years after that. I have since had the ball signed by Ken Griffey, Jr. and now have a ball signed by all 3 players to homer in 8 consecutive games.

Just this past January, I had a return from Dante Lavelli about a week before he passed.

Luckily, most people that I've sent to have survived my request, but
just to be safe, if I send anyone here something to sign, DON'T DO IT!!!

No one else on Sportscollectors.net had been rejected by Reed. I'll try him again.

The Marchetti was a PSA 5 crackout. It turned out pretty well!

Today I got a very nice letter from Cheryl, George McAfee's daughter saying her dad passed away last week and returned my card and donation. I hate to have returns like this and honestly for her to send my card back was more than I would have ever expected. Thank you very much Cheryl and RIP Mr. McAfee.

It's a work in progress that's for sure! BTW, I just completed a deal to add 8 more (7 from 1948-1959 and 1 from 1963) and I should be getting my Bill Dudley back from the Chantilly show in the next few weeks.

    Reese:

Looks like I know who out bid me on a few of the '50-51 Bowman's that were up last week...

A few recent additions. Sorry for the imposter in the middle of the top row... image
