Welcome back to this thread, friends! 8 New ones to report, 4 being HOfers. Please check on the first post of page 1 for the new ones (will be the 8 at the top). Glad to be posting on this thread again!
thanks Reese. I'm itching to get Ace Parker added and I seem to remember winning a copy of his '55 AA but either I was outbid, it showed up and I lost it, or I sent it and havent gotten it back. weird. John
Good luck with Parker. He really is a great signer. I've been looking for the cheapest 48 Leaf Bednarik I can find for him to sign. I'm not having much luck!

Hah! I'm looking for the same thing as well... I'm searching ebay all the time for leaf bednarik. I am probably going to settle for a low grade 49... it's about the same thing and a lot cheaper.
I saw a lower grade bednarik 48 awhile back that I was intersted in... went over $200!
I have a signed RC of (traitor) Gene Upshaw you can have for $20.00 if desired.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Scott- whenever you're selling that Bednarik you let me know. Funny that he signed it hof 69. If intersted in a psa 3 Baugh leaf rc in a possible trade arrangement for it also you let me know. Nice McAfee as well.
For some reason that stabler confused me... I've had his 73 RC before but I guess since the photos are similar maybe that is what confuses me. Can't believe I sent a banged up '75 to him ha ha. ugh.
I have a mcafee headed to george in the next few days, if it comes back in pen I'll let you know and we could work something out. I know you're looking for it in pen, right?
It is easier for me to post it here then e-mail John, as I have a dozen windows open already messing with FF.
I also have a quick sketch I made of Upshaw...
...and a PSA/DNA Swell card.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Are you still a college student? If so, I would go $15 shipping included.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
At least it is not Missouri State....the evil rivals of the local university I attended (Wichita State University) in the Missouri Valley Conference. I would have to crease the card and spit on first if that was the case...
Me and my brother are season ticket holders to men's basketball....and yes, we miss Mark Turgeon.
Go Shockers!
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Yea, I am from springfield so I of course didn't want to go to Missouri State, hah. they do have a fun basketball environment though, the Shockers always give them trouble. Being in MVC territory, you may remember Anthony Tolliver, who went to Creighton and now is with some nba team riding the pine... he is from springfield as well, the summer before my freshman year of high school I played in a 3 on 3 tournament against him (he as a senior in HS I think at the time). I had a little trouble guarding him...
<< <i>I have a mcafee headed to george in the next few days, if it comes back in pen I'll let you know and we could work something out. I know you're looking for it in pen, right? >>
Yes, I would greatly appreciate getting one in pen. Have two in marker. One says George McAfee, the other is Geo McAfee.
If I can find a cleaner raw Bednarik for a "reasonable" price (will be in Boston next weekend for Shriners show), I'll grab it and get it out to him. Then I'll gladly work something out with the Chaz for you.
Have you dropped anything to Al Wistert, yet? You may want to now. Even though he's in great shape, he's 88 and you never know. He's on my list to get in the Hall in the next 5 years. I'm going to send out a second Leaf to him shortly. He always adds extras and usually a note, too. Just don't give him your phone number or he may call you up... At least he's fun on the phone and not the loony toon that Tommy McDonald is (both have called and I've since ceased putting my real estate business cards in the mailings).
BTW, Al (Albert) Wistert is actually "Ox" and his late brother Al (Alvin) was "Whitey," just in case you want some interesting fodder for your letter.
Yeah, Tolliver is the center that beat us at the buzzer a couple years ago. I was there.
Edit to add: Lucky shot.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Scott, that's some good info. Looking at ebay, I see there is a 48 leaf #28, and 49 leaf #36 that are both Al Wistert, but it says al 'whitey' wistert. But one of the ebay auctions calls him 'the ox' in the discription. Is this card of the deceased Mr. Wistert or the Mr Wistert you speak of?
Al "Whitey" Wistert cards are ALL Al (Albert) "Ox" Wistert. Al (Alvin) "Moose" Wistert (I erroneously mentioned Alvin as "Whitey" in the previous post) and Francis "Whitey" Wistert never played in the NFL. Francis did have a short career with the Cincinnati Reds in the major leagues.
Therefore, the Al "Whitey" Wistert Leaf cards are the surviving Al Wistert that starred with the Phildelphia Eagles. His official cards are: 1948-1949 Leaf 1948, 1950-1951 Bowman
Interestingly, the three brothers were All-Americans at Michigan, all wore the same number 11, and are all in the NCAA Hall of Fame. Their number 11 is also retired by the University of Michigan in the name of all three brothers.
Al Wistert basically invented the stand-up blocking technique. Probably the reason that he's not in the NFL HOF is because there wasn't a Pro-Bowl until the last season of his career (it was suspended from 1943-1950). He was an 8 time All-Pro (every season he played except his rookie season) and did make the Pro Bowl in in his final season when the Pro Bowl was resumed. He was also on the 1940's All-Decade Team.
At 88 years of age, he still claims to work out 3-4 days a week and mentions that his last desire is to be enshrined in the HOF.
Chuck Bednarik has even mentioned how shameful it is that Wistert still isn't in the Hall.
Scott, great post. I've got my eye on a couple leaf wisterts as we speak. what do you consider reasonable for a Bednarik? none of 'em seem too reasonable to me.
We should all work together on this project- so far I know of you, Scott, myself, and Reese (Reese3333) who are working on HOF signed football rookies. If anyone else is, please post in this thread! This can be for discussing, trading, selling , helping each other out with knowledge and addresses, and not just for me to show off the ones I get in the mail!! I have a subscription to startiger and I'm more than happy to give addresses if people need them.
Scott, you may remember I was talking about sending a mcafee . I sent it on oct 24, no sign of it yet. I sent the 48 leaf dudley out on october 8! I dunno what is with these 2 cards. did you find another '48 bednarik?
REESE- SO NICE! What do you think of the 'best wishes'?

McAfee has been a little lapse in returning, averaging around 4-5 weeks lately. Dudley also runs about the same. Keep in mind that these gentlemen are in their 80s and may rely on others to assist them with answering and returning their mail. Not all of them are like Bednarik and Wistert.

As long as the card is personalized to me, it doesn't bother me at all. I don't have any intention of selling it, so I think it's cool when athletes take the time to add a note or personalize the card.

Just an FYI, the Stabler isn't his RC... His RC is from 1973, not 1975...
