    Reese,

I love the McDonald - he has a fantastic autograph! I've added 2 new HOF auto cards plus an auto'd card of a possible future HOFer (Lionel Taylor). Finally, I picked up a beautiful signed 71 Topps Johnny Unitas for $65 dlvd. Thanks to Reese for notifying me about the Hutson. I hit the BIN 5 seconds after finding the auction! The Sayers was signed at Jane Bosley's show last weekend and turned out great.

Thanks Jim! At least Reese and I have one now - so you'll have no competition from us on the next one for sale image Once I saw the Hutson, I hit the BIN immediately because I knew the rest of you vultures wouldn't be far behind.

I'm excited to finally make a new addition. I've had this card for about two years now and have missed every Bob Brown signing until now. This puts me at 149 total for this set.

Nice Brown auto Reese. You guys are nuts with your signed HOF RC's! They all look great though.

Here are a few of my HOF rookies. I'm not doing this as a project, I just get them when I have an opportunity because they are nice items, and should maintain good trade value if I do decide to get rid of them in the future.

    Reese,

Nice Bob Brown - the sign turned out great.

    Donnie,

Thanks for sharing your signed rookie cards. Very nice (especially the Marino).

Things have slowed down recently, however I have added several cards to my collection. First, is a 2005 UD Legends Bud Grant that was an E-Bay purchase. It's hand signed, instead of sticker signed like the certified autographs. Second is a Rashan Salaam for my Heisman rc collection which he signed TTM. Third is a Tim Brown 1989 Score that was signed last month at the NJ show. Finally, is my Notre Dame Heisman card signed by Tim Brown at the same show which was already signed by all living Notre Dame heisman winners; Lujack, Lattner, Hornung and Huarte. Obviously missing from the card are autographs of Leon Hart and Angleo Bertelli who died in the 1990's. Even missing autographs of the deceased Notre Dame heisman winners, it's still a nice card.

    Enjoy!

    Rgs,

    Greg M.

What happened to everyone!!!??? This thread hasn't been updated in nearly 2 months. I haven't picked up much myself until last week when I added a signed Henry Jordan rc!!! A seller on E-Bay was breaking an entire set and I won over 50 cards - including the Jordan for around $260 which I think was a steal. I'll post a pick when I receive it. I also had a Tony Dorsett signed last weekend at Chantilly which turned out great.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying their summer!

Ah, so Tommy's signature does fit on a card. He wrote to me that it didn't. I was skeptical.

    John,

It took me a few times sending the card back and forth with a $50 check in order for him to sign. Surprisingly, he cut my check up and signed the card for free. I think the notes he sent me were kind of neat, but it was a pain to get the card signed and he did say his signature won't fit on a card. I think he is signing at an upcoming CSA show.

I haven't posted scans in a while, and I wanted to showcase my recent acquisitions:

First, a signed rookie card of Henry Jordan. The signature is in light ballpoint pen, but looks fantastic in person:

    image

Next is a signed rc of Derrick Thomas that I bought off E-Bay. A very nice signature, in black sharpie:

    image

Next is a signed rc of Tony Dorsett that I had signed at a recent show:
    image

Next are 3 signed rc of AFL stars - Tom Flores, Lionel Taylor and Abner Haynes:

    image

    image

    image

Next are signed rc of 70's stars and potential future HOFers - Gradishar (e-bay purchase) and Isiah Robertson (TTM):

    image

    image

I just lost my job on Friday, so it may be a while before I add any more auto'd cards. Hope all is well w/ everyone else.

Ok - 4 new additions to my football signed rookie card collection. The first is a 93 SP card signed by future HOFer Will Shields. It was signed TTM, along with a couple of other cards. It's not common for modern HOF candidates to sign TTM, but Mr. Shields is one of the better signers out there.

The other 3 auto'd cards I traded for cards from my non-autographed collection which I'm liquidating: 1970 Heisman winner Jim Plunkett, NFL HOFer Jim Langer (I have a signed rc, but its personalized) and future HOFer Brett Favre - if he ever stops playing!

Thanks for looking and please post scans of any new additions that you have.

I was just looking through the registry and was wondering why Don Shula's rc is listed as his 89 Proset and not his 64 philly? I know many of you already have his 89 card signed and might have a slightly biased opinion, but I really think it should be his philly card since it is his first official card with his picture one it. Does anyone have any opinion about this?

I'm not opposed to the change. I could be wrong, but is part of the hold up to that because of PSA? Since it isn't actually a player card it wouldn't work? See the flip here:

So I noticed another card that could be considered if the Shula was. So, I just realized that Vince Lombardi has the same 1964 play card:

    image

I also noticed that in the All-time Packers set registry that the listing for the card is "1964 PHILADELPHIA PACKERS PLAY VINCE LOMBARDI 84 2.50" which to me suggest that it is possible to have these cards used for the set. I don't know if an autographed 1964 Philadelphia Vince Lombardi exists signed... I know his autograph is rare and valuable, but I have no idea what his signing habits were while he was living...Thoughts?

You have a great point about the Shula and Lombardi. Reese and I talked about the team cards when we first requested the set. Ultimately we chose not to include the team cards because you could make the argument that other team cards should be added for tough/impossible HOFers (e.g. George Preston Marshall, Tim Mara).

We could put it up to a vote and see what everyone thinks.

Over the past several months, I have picked up several cards for my collection. I picked up the Payton and George rc's from fellow board members, the Spurrier, Rogers and Crow rc were TTM returns and the remaining cards I picked up at the National last week. I am absolutely thrilled to have found the Halas, Van Brocklin and Baugh especially. Enjoy!

    Hi Guys!

I've been really busy lately, but wanted to show everyone what I picked up at the National. As some of you know, I'm working on HOF RC Autograph set, 1955 Topps All American Autos, and 1950-1955 Bowman Autograph sets. Here is what I found:

    image
    image
    image

I also had the opportunity to meet Willie Brown and Mel Blount who were both very nice and willing to sign their RCs for my collection.

    image
    image

Here was my impulse buy! I've always wanted a leather helmet but never really thought I could afford one. I was told it was from the 1940's and was most likely used in a college game. The thing that stood out to me was the blood stains on the helmet strap. I don't know much about leather helmets but I took a risk on it and from talking to a couple people around the show they seemed to think I did very well!

    image
    image
    image

My BIG addition is currently at JSA being authenticated. It's been 3 weeks and the suspense it killing me! I'm praying it's authentic because it would be HUGE!!!!

Overall the National was a great time and I can't wait for Baltimore next year!

<< <i>Sweet additions Greg! They are all outstanding! Baugh, Van Brocklin, and Halas are huge additions!

I'm really digging the McNally! I haven't seen too many of his cards signed on the front.

I'll post my National additions here in the next few days. Thanks to Greg, I may have a very tough addition for my set. It's sitting with JSA as we speak.... fingers crossed! >>

I know what Reese's secret is image I really hope that it authenticates. I think that its authentic and the signature is bolder than mine. I'm crossing my fingers for you.

<< <i>I think I'm going with that Panini Sabol and try TTM. What dos everyone consider as reasonable options for Bud Grant? >>

For the HOF rc set, we used the 2005 UD legends card as it was his first mainstream card that was issued. He has a 1954 Blue Ribbon CFL card which is extremely rare (and expensive), at least one card in the local police sets that were issued during the 1980's/1990's and then the 2005 UD Legends. We didn't feel the 1954 Blue Ribbon and 1980's/1990's Police sets were mainstream anough which is why we chose the 2005 UD Legends set.
